I think it all depends on what you're looking for and what you use. Obviously a spa and professionals have access to higher grade products and even treatments with higher percentages of active ingredients that will only be available to licensed aestheticians, but that's not to discredit many of the at home peels, masks, and treatments that have made way. Skin care is always evolving and growing so we as consumers get to benefit from brands that want to offer more effective products.

Part of going to a spa or salon is the fact of you getting to not lift a finger, it's part of the experience and enjoyment to have someone pamper you, but saving money is also important so if you decide you want to go for it yourself, be sure you have enough time to dedicate to a whole spa experience created for and by yourself. Don't try to cram everything in 30 minutes because you'll take all the relaxation and enjoyment out if you're constant worrying about a time crunch hindering you.

Also, choose products you are familiar with so you avoid any at home mishaps of dealing with products that may or may not work for your skin. Just because a product is labled "spa quality" or "doctor/professional grade" doesn't mean jump right in if all your used to is a gentle exfoliant and steaming. If you know how your skin reacts to the active ingredients then gauge from there and what's on the market, otherwise, if you're unsure, check with your dermatologist or skin therapist to see what may or may not work for your skin.

Have fun, light candles, put on soothing music, fill a room with fresh flowers or scented oils. Make it an experience you'll love to to create for yourself!
