In the spirit of all the other wonderful challenges on BT right now, I'm starting up a nail polish challenge for us. I have a ridiculous stash and I need to show my polish some love. With nail polish, once a day would be absurd (of course), so let's try and show off a new look and polish once a week. I'm personally going with manicures only, but if you'd rather do pedicures or even both go for it! I'm eager to see your collections and meet other polish junkies. It's past time for me to commit to using my stash! I have MS and it's starting to progress. I have trouble sitting still due to pain and issues with tremors in my hands. I loved having polished nails but gave up on them. Manicures are out of the picture financially as well as the hassle of deciding when I'll feel up to an appt. There is no way I can "stay in the lines" while painting my nails. I've read suggestions like Vaseline or Elmer's glue on cuticles to prevent polish from sticking there - but I apply it to my nails too which causes the polish not to stick. I saw the Formula X nail cleaner and I'm thinking this could be a solution....it could potentially clean off the Vaseline on my nail after gooping my cuticles. Do any users of the product think this would work? Or does anyone have other suggestions?
I recently joined Julip Maven and went a bit nuts stocking up on polish. Of course now I've tried it and I just can't seem to get the formula to work. I've tried a few different colors, glitter and not and they all come out so thick and dry so fast that I can't get smooth even costs. I tried a few times and gave up and went back to my old Essie polishes. I'm so frustrated and sad I could cry. What am I doing wrong? Obviously there are so many ladies here that love these polishes.
Hi i am a avid nail polish user and i have very dry nails that split and crack, peel non stop. I have tried many different brands of treatments from sally hansen to orly essie nailtiques, julep, and so on nothing helps. Also the strong toxic smell of things really bother me. I wear a mask when I do my nails so anything that you could suggest would be a big help. I have been looking into Deborah lippman, formula x,sparitual, but if you could suggest products and instructions from cuticles all the way to a good lasting top coat i would be greatly appreciative.I dont really care about the price either as long as it helps I love reading your info and reviews. Your my last hope
This is an embarrassing question. I feel like I should know the answer to this. Until recently, it had been YEARS since I painted my nails. But once I started painting them again, I didn't look back!! And I've been painting them every weekend for a few months. Needless to say, they've gone a little yellow on me. And I get the feeling that I should let them breathe. How often should someone let their nails breathe? And how long do I need to wait before I paint them again? What will happen if I don't let them breathe? I feel like at 35, I should know the answers to these questions.
I recently took my acrylics off so my nails are pretty damaged, and weak. They'll start finally growing but literally split because they're just so weak. Any suggestions on how to helps my nails regain their strength and be healthy again?
can they be passed from a bottle of polish? About 2 weeks ago, my sister borrowed an as yet unused polish from me, and her HH aide did her nails. Yesterday she turned up with infections in both thumbs. We're drowning all the nail tools in the house in alcohol, but what about the polish? We think she got another manicure in between the one with my polish and the infection showing up, but we just can't be sure, and her aide is on vacay so we can't even check to see if it came from her tools! Just to be safe, I tossed the bottle and ordered a new one (Deborah Lippmann in LE Dark Side of the Moon). So aggravating, I bought it in the Fall, then proceeded to break nails, rip cuticles, and get blisters so I've been unable to get them done. Now everything's healed and grown to a decent length, and I was just thinking of getting a mani/pedi tom'w and this happens! And since I never wore it, I'm not even certain that I really like it enough to have spent $36 on it! Aaah, the things we do!
Every time I get a manicure, the ends start to chip away within a day or two. I know that gel lasts longer, but it's more expensive and the UV light freaks me out a little. Is there an oil or a specific topcoat that will work best for this?
*sigh* Feel free to laugh at me all you want. I'm 30 in a few months (**bleep**, that number looks scary) and I can't figure out HOW to open the Butter London nail polish bottles! It says Lift up to open on the side...and I try to, but I can't OPEN IT! somebody help? *puppy eyes*
What are some of your favorite base coats and tops coats? I generally like a strengthening base coat just to keep my nails strong and healthy. I recently finished off a Sephora by OPI one. Currently, I've been using Bridge the Ridge from Sally's Beauty Supply. I helps to fill in minor dents and ridges that can come up from time to time due to a rough glitter removal. At least that's what I use it for lol. It dries really fast and to a matte finish. I have a variety of topcoats. I use to use Seche Vite, but it can sometimes shrink polish and cause it to come off in whole pieces. Right now, I've been been using the Out The Door topcoat. I really like it! I also love my NYC Matte Me Crazy topcoat. It dries fast, and it's super durable! I was very surprised about that. I use my Cina Top Coat and bonder when I use nail art pieces, glitter or rhinestones.
Hello! I am in search of the Formula X color that was made available exclusively to VIB and/or Beauty Insider members around the 2014 holiday season. I believe it was a white-ish/silvery color, very pretty and winter-like. I can no longer find any sign of it on Sephora. It was such a lovely color and I meant to order it, but I completely forgot to add it to my cart during an order I had made at that time! Thanks for your help!
I'm kind of a nail junkie and looking for more designs that I can do on my own at home. So far, I have done a lot of half moon and galaxy looks, and yesterday I just tried colourfoil for the first time. So... what's your go-to manicure design to do at home? Show off your favorite designs! Inspire me! (And hopefully, inspire others!)
Lately I keep wearing these green tones, especially from Julep, on my nails and they leave the worst stains! I guess it wasn't the best idea to keep using the Josie Maran Bear Naked nail wipes (I've only been using them since I got them on the sale on sale). Normally I remove my polish with an acetone remover. But these nail wipes have been staining my nails orange. So on top of the green stains they are orange also. It's Halloween in January! This weekend I gave up trying to clean them up and put a dark color (Zoya's Matte Velvet in Loredana) over the stains and it looks fine but I really want to remove all this mess and start fresh with a new color (definitely not green this time!) Any ideas on how I can get rid of all this mess?
I bought a large Ciate nail polish set for my wife for Christmas and some of the bottles have no brush inside! How is this supposed to work???, and where can I get some brushes for the nail polish bottles? Thanks.
Greenporchlights post asking for everyone's HG Red lipstick got me wondering. What is your HG nail polish? I have not been able to get enough red nail polish lately, and I think I've finally found my HG. China Glaze's Ruby Pumps. (It was recommended to me several times before I finally got my hands on it) I have my eye on a few different shades in the OPI Brazil collection, the yellow (I can't cope-acabana), teal (AmazON AmazOFF), and the red (Red Hot Rio). What are your HG nail polish shades?
Just saw these, and they seem interesting. First thing, they're a dollar more expensive than the Sephora by OPI polishes. Second, i'm not sure I like the packaging. it looks a wee bit cheap to me, and the white looks like it can get pretty dirty. Just by looking at the colors, they aren't too special. Most of them don't have shimmer or glitter, which I like. Have any of you tried it? All of the reviews so far are positive.
There used to be several color choices in the opi gel series which could be purchased separately. I only see 3 choices now, which don't suit me. Is this line being discontinued? If so, can any other gel line be used in their place?
So I haven't been into painting my nails for awhile. One of my besties sent me some jamberries, and I went over to a friend's house so we could do our nails together. I decided only to put a couple of the jamberries on because it was a busy design and I thought it'd be too much to have that on all of my fingers. I was just going to leave it at that because I hate it when I paint my nails and it chips right off the bat so I wasn't going to waste my tme. My friend talked me into painting my nails using this awesome top coat that she has (that Sephora doesn't carry). And it lasted a lot longer than I expected!! So I bought some of the top coat and repainted them last week and it's lasted over a week even with the cheap polish I used. SO now I need more!! I've been perusing Sephora.com in search of the perfect red nail polish. Most of the reds are too bright. I'm looking for a darker red. Any suggestions? I'm eyeing a few different shades from Formula X but I love BT and wanted to see what you ladies recommend. Thanks so much!!
Wait. What? I just realized that Sephora+Pantone did not do a nail polish this year! I mean, it's pretty obvious that past years their polishes did not do so well (as many of them are *still* in the sale section, and I have never found the quality to be that great) but Marsala is just *crying out* for a polish version! It is the most mani-friendly COTY in *ages*. They really missed the boat. I mean, just one polish in a perfect (or even decent) Marsala creme and everyone would be clamouring to get it. Or, even better, a really opaque satin-finish Marsala, so you get that glowing, semi-matte. It would really show off Marsala nicely!
Wonder where I can get those strips, maybe a couple mm thick, to make a good line for doing nail art.... I've gotten some from sallys beauty supplies but the polish just bled underneath them and it looked terrible. Ive seen ones used on IG that look amazing but wondering where do I get these?
Hey girls, Just wondering what your favorite nail polish company is? I absolutely adore the Essie packaging and I think the colors are so cute! The polish goes on very well for me, but I've read some reviews of how some think it is streaky. OPI has the reputation of being one of the best. But, when I used their polish the other day, the paint chipped two days later! What are some of your favorites?? xx
My daughter and I spent some time at Sephora today (have to train them young) and she was all over the polishes. She paints her own nails and is trying to learn designs and such. She was gaga over the Marc Jacob colors, but at almost 20 a pop I can't see buying a bunch of those. I don't wear polish on my nails due to my career. Any advice on what to invest in for her? She was looking at the ciate' advent calendar, but the reviews on that aren't great and it's 60 bucks.
