Watch what you ask for...

(0) Hearts

Monday was my birthday so I decided to give myself a treat. Wanted to get a manicure. I walked into a nail salon and asked did I need to make an appointment. The girl did not understand me when I said I wanted a manicure, so I held up my hand and said I want me nails cut and painted.

That is exactly what I received:smileysad: now she did file the rough cut edge but did not smooth out the corners or make sure my nails were even. I now have pretty painted nails but now I will have to file them and I will end up taking off the polish and starting over:smileymad:

I completely understand your dilemma.  I have been getting my nails done for many years.  I usually go in every 2 weeks or so and it took me a LONG time to find the right salon and the right technician.  One of  my 1st experiences was just awful.  I learnt very quickly to speak up if something was not to my satisfaction... after all I am the one paying for it (and girl I will NOT pay for something I don't like) lol.  Besides, how are they gonna kno what they're doing isn't working unless you say something right? Just dont give up on finding the place that works for you and when you find someone that does your nails 'just right', ask for that person each time you go in.  Sure you may have to wait a bit longer, but in the end it's well worth it.

Take care

I know it is my fault for not paying attention to what she was doing. I did not notice how sharp my nails were until I left and scratched my arm :smileysurprised: .

I very rarely get my nails done especially now that I am unemployed, that is probably why this experienced bothered me so much.

maybe next time stop the tech after one or two nails, they usually ask if thats satisfactory after one nail is done before continuing. hope you didn't leave a big tip.  a small tip usually gets the point across as opposed to no tip.

You can really get a bad manicure anywhere; I don't think your negative experience is likely related to how you asked for it. If it's a nail salon, they should know how to do a manicure properly -- you don't have to ask them to file your nails, as this should be standard procedure. I always check out the yelp reviews first, but I have definitely had a great manicure at a place my friend later told me she would never go back to because of a miserable experience, and I have had a terrible manicure from a place that had really high ratings. It all depends on the technician, etc. Next time, try to check out reviews for salons you are considering and try to go to one with consistently positive feedback. That may help to ensure a better experience...

Doesn't it just puzzle us all why some employees in the US speak ENGLISH?

If I worked in another country I would be sure to become fluent or at least proficient in that country's language as to maintain a good business rep.
