Some tips:

--For a smokey eye, apply a medium brown color all over the lid. Then, apply a dark brown to the crease and outer V. Blend and use highlighting shades. You could get this kit from Sephora, which comes with everything you need for a smokey eye plus instructions. I think it is only $10 right now.

--To Highlight the eyes:

Take a white or beige shadow with some shimmer. Apply to the inner corner of the eye and blend a little. Apply right under the arch of the eyebrow and blend a little. This will make you look more awake.Apply in the gray areas and blend so it looks more natural.

--Use a blush on the apples of your cheeks, such as NAR's blush or Benetint, to give a cool flush.

-- Use bronzer and a highlighter to contour your face and look like you have the bone structure of a model. A good highlighter is High Beam from Benefit.

--Tightline your eyes instead of lining them. When you tightline, you apply liner on the inner rim of your upper lash line. This looks much more natural, but also has a cool effect on your lashes. Notice how she lifts up her eye to see. You can tightline with pencil or gel liner.

--Besides highlighting, you can look more awake by using a brightening face primer, such as Benefit's "That Gal," and you can line your waterline (inside of lower lash line) with a white or peach liner. This will make you look more awake as well as make your eyes look bigger.

--Get a good mascara for your lashes. Look at your lashes. Are they long? Short? Thick? Breaking easily? Not very dark?

Get a mascara that has good reviews and is supposed to suit your needs. I have medium length, fairly strong, fairly thick lashes, and I lovvveeee Bare Escentuals: Flawless Definition Mascara for a natural look, and Buxom Lash for a fake lash look. If you still aren't sure, I'd recommend trying out Sephora's Give Me Some Lash! Deluxe Mascara Sampler. It is $30, and has deluxe samples of six best selling mascaras (including the two I just mentioned), plus a sample of a lash enhancer gel. You're sure to find one you like. I actually like them all!

--Cover up any dark circles or blemishes with a good concealer, such as Clinique's Advanced Concealer ($14.50), or Amazing Concealer ($42). Apply with fingers or brush for light to medium coverage or use a sponge for better coverage.

--To mattefy skin, try using a primer like the POREfessional from Benefit, which minimizes the appearance of pores as well as matefys skin, along with a powder.

--If you have issues with redness or uneven skin tone, use a good foundation along with ELF's Complexion Perfection powder, which has four colors to minimize redness, orange and grey hues, and to brighten the skin. ($3.)

--Try a lip plumper such as Too Faced Lip Injection Extreme to make your lips look bigger and better. (not needed if you already have big lips Smiley Very Happy).

I would suggest the naked palette by urban decay. I really love makeup and have most of the palettes out there. The naked palette is great because it comes with a really nice brush for the eyeshadow. Also it comes with a primer that you put on your eyelid to help the eyeshadow stay and not crease. It also has a great variety of neutral colors that range from a light color called virgin to a nice grey color called gunmetal and everything in between! It may be hard to find but if you can find it, it is so worth the money. However you might not like the sparkles in most of the shadows but luckily there isn't much fallout of the actual sparkles.
Also any of the neutral too faced palettes would work because if you don't really know how to apply the colors it comes with some ways to apply it. I hope I helped!!! I hope you find the look thats right for you!!
