The Lime Crime thread got me thinking, I don't know a whole lot about the companies I buy from, beyond what I can dig up on my own while reading reviews or looking for swatches. What other companies (let's keep them beauty related only, or we'll be here all year) would you never buy from, and why? Are there any you refused to try for a long time but have since changed your mind on? Mine are: 1. Lime Crime (totes obvs, right) 2. Sigma -- I genuinely don't care whether they have a good product or not, but if I hear one more YTer say "I'm using Sigma #XX, I'll link it below" I will smack someone. I feel like they have over-saturated the online beauty community with affiliates and hidden sponsorships to the point that I just have no desire whatsoever to try anything from them. Ever. 3. Kat Von D - just don't like her, so I'm not giving her my money. 4. CoastalScents - sort of the same as Sigma, but I did buy several glosses from them a few years ago and the colors and quality were just way sub-par, even if they weren't expensive. 5. Savina - I bought two polishes from a Nordstrom Rack to try out and they were SO AWFUL that I vowed never to buy another one, not even if it looked gorgeous. 6. Enkore - same thing, bought a few eyeshadows and they were so awful I'll never buy anything from him again. I think he even quit producing eyeshadows, so I clearly wasn't alone in my dislike for them. 7. Any and all celebrity-backed perfumes. I think I have one bottle of J.Lo's Glow from back in the day (and it does smell lovely), but again it's that over saturation of the market that turns me off. I feel like I see Britney Spears/Jessica Simpson/Justin Bieber/One Direction fragrances in every single drugstore or discount store I go to. One I Changed My Mind On: Glamglow! When their stuff first came out, it was SO EXPENSIVE and had so much hype that I was immediately skeptical. I think I tried one foil of the black mask and the flakes inside of it annoyed me to the point of dismissing the brand entirely. When the SeasonSet sample bag arrived, I pulled the Thirstymud sample out and it popped on me! The crimped end of it had blown apart and it was all over my hands.. and it smelled so good.. so I figured, better to smear it on my face and see what was up, rather than wash it down the drain. I'm glad I did; my skin was suuuuuuper soft, like crazy soft, when I washed it off. It also stayed really soft even after I washed with cleanser, and I felt like it was still pretty soft in the morning. I've got a trip coming up to cooler temperatures in the desert soon so I found another foil sample of it in my sample stash and ordered the kit before the VIBR sale ended, to have some on hand. ETA: I hope no one takes offense to any of this stuff, it's just makeup. I'm positive there will be someone out there who dislikes a brand I like, so no hurt feelings.
Hey ladies and gents! I'm always on the hunt for new brands to explore. I love supporting smaller companies that are female and/or minority owned. (the ones you share don't have to be) What are your favorite indie brands? Makeup, beauty, body care, clothes etc? I've loved oyin handmade for YEARS since they started in 1999/2000 or so. They have really grown and are now available in target stores in some areas. I also love bake shop butters (the owner is so sweet) she just got married so her shop is closed for now, but her body butters are WONDERFUL and smell so good. Toni Daley makes some AMAZING jewelry! I have some of her earrings and any time I wear them someone always asks me where I got them. Rachel Stewart also make some incredible pins and earrings.
I was looking at Urban Outfitters and some bloggers...all these Korean brands. The first Tony Moly is on Sephora (and Shiseido but not Shu eumura). Anyone buy them? Like the cute packaging? Are the colors transferable to most people's everyday? Insight is so appreciated! And Shu Eumura has 25% off now. Buying anything?
So I bought my first bottle of Julep nail polish and have fallen in love! This formula is awesome! I got Candace and I am thinking of checking out more colors. I like all sorts of colors esp glittery ones. I'm not such a neutral fan unless it has some sparkle. The only colors I do not wear are red, yellow, and white/off white. So what are your favorite shades (obviously ones that are available currently ) Thank you in advance
Hey everyone! I'd like to buy for Christmas a new foundation but I hesitate between Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide LAURA MERCIER, Amazonian Clay BB Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum TARTE or Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Full Coverage Foundation. I have combination skin and acne (not severe), which do you recommend? Thank's!
I watch a lot of YouTube beauty videos and everyone always raves about how amazing MAC is, so I always assumed it was fabulous. After reading around on here for the last few months I've noticed a lot of people say that it is not that great. I know YouTube isn't the best place to find accurate product reviews, but is MAC as great as the gurus make it out to be? I planned on buying all of my holiday makeup at MAC this year because I thought everything would end up being amazing, but now I'm kind of doubting that. I tried a lipgloss and pressed pigment form them, but I don't think that those purchases are enough for me to make an accurate judgement about the brand. Lip gloss is lip gloss to me, and the shadow was a highlight shade so it's nothing fancy. Anyone have any input on whether or not I should splurge on MAC?
I am currently looking for another cool toned eye shadow palette to buy, but I haven't found anything yet. I already have the naked2, but besides that palette I'm having a hard time finding another cool toned palette. Every palette I've seen has too many warm toned shadows (which honestly always look awful on me), so I don't want to buy a palette with shadows I won't use since I don't want to waste money. If anyone has a recommendation it would be much appreciated! Price or brand don't matter to me so I am open to any suggestions.
I found the Mini Lipstick Charms trio available for pre-order today at Nordstrom. It's a bit more expensive than the price posted in blogs ($39 not $35). Oh well, it's still a good way to try something new. If you've seen the holiday palette elsewhere, please do share! Shades included at 0.03 oz. each: - **bleep** Perfect - Penelope Pink - So Marilyn
Okay, since this is a Sephora board, I'm sticking with the popular brands of make-up that are sold at Sephora. What words, terms, concepts do you associate with the following brands? It doesn't matter if your associations are logical, rational or completely batsh!t crazy - what do YOU think of when you think of the following brands? I'll do mine in a separate post to keep things clean for copy/paste purposes. Anastasia Beverly Hills - Bare Minerals - BECCA - Benefit - BITE - Bobbi Brown - Buxom - Clinique - Cover FX - Dior - Estee Lauder - Givenchy - Guerlain - Hourglass - Kat Von D - Lancome - Laura Mercier - MAKE UP FOR EVER - Marc Jacobs - NARS - Smashbox - Stila - Tarte - Too Faced - Urban Decay - YSL - I think I got almost all of the common ones talked about on this board... but if you don't have any thoughts on any of them, feel free to leave them blank or ? or whatever... it's just for fun to see how people view things differently! Also it's Friday and this is definitely a fun time-killer and a version of a Friday Questions!
Have you guys seen these?! There are tons of shades and finishes to choose from, and you can build your own palette! I can't wait to try these; I wonder if Sephora will carry all of the shades? There are so many and I'd really like to go in and test a good chunk of them. http://www.sephora.com/artist-shadow-P387670?skuId =1622745
I posted a previous post about starting a traveling box with samples and deluxe samples and a few ladies were interested in doing one! This is the 1st traveling box I am apart of and of course the 1st that I am starting. So, we need to decide if we are going to do a medium or small flat rate box. RULES No used items. No open items DO NOT take more than you put in. Let's keep this fun and fair DO NOT take multiples of the same sample PLEASE try not to keep the box more than 3 days Make sure to send your address to the person listed above you Once you send the box off, post the tracking number in this thread ALL unused items allowed (well maybe not nail polishes if it will make the shipping costs go up) Post a pic of what you take out, what you put in and what is left in the box before you send it off We are going to have fun and try to keep this going as long as we can! If you are interested in being in the box, I have a few spots left so post a pic of what samples you have in this thread to be added. To start off, we are only going to have 10 people! 1. CuriousCannibal 2. MegEm 3.MLLECC 4. tessie84 5. Kittichick 6. NicoleFrat 7. NightKnight 8. Sweetxteeth 9. Nishcakes 10. Kariyava
In less than a month I'll be going to Disney. Last time I was there I noticed Disney rolling out makeup geared more towards adults. Has anyone tried anything from Disney's revamped makeup line? Anything good? Worthwhile? Collectible? Additionally, I'll be spending most of my days shopping (my husband will be at a conference) so are there any hidden gems I should know about? I'll obviously hit up the two outlet malls in Orlando, but is there anything glorious between St. Pete/Tampa and Orlando? Feel free to throw out your favorite food spots as well. I have some favorites (Yellow Dog Eats and 4Rivers) but I'm always looking for new places. Also pictures. I like memes, gifs, and photoshop masterpieces. Don't care if they have anything to do with Disney or not. For your help, I shall offer you this VERY realistic picture of what some BT members would look like if they were on the teacups with me.
They're now live on their website! How many of you are thinking of picking these up? I'm still not entirely sold on them. How about you ladies? The price point is pretty good. 1 for $14 4 for $40 8 for $70
I feel like my looks aren't complete until my eyebrows are done and a lot of you probably feel the same way. I was looking at threads but it's mostly 'what can I use to so and so, and this causes this and that' type of deal. I use several products for different things.I recently discovered the PERFECT product for a natural brow, and well for a more polished brow I have a favorite one as well, so let's begin. What brow products are your HG? Natural brow - Giorgo Armani Eye and Brow maestro Defined brow - (For a dark brown I use UD brow box and set it with abh tinted gel) Defined brow - (for a black brow I just use any matte black eyeshadow) Now t hat I've listed my products.. I have both wenge wood and jet black for the GA and I thought that the black would be a bit too dramatic (my thoughts before trying it on) but WOW, it actually keeps my brow looking as thick as i want it and natural. Seriously. This product is foolproof. If I were to suggest any products to anyone, it'd be the ones I listed (ud brow box and GA). I still wnt to try the brow zing from benefit though.
I have a major obsession with makeup. I would literally spend all of my money at Sephora. There is just one problem. I can't wear nearly any makeup! Here is a complete list of what I'm allowed to wear: mascara- If my mother can't see it lippies, in most colors except reds (pinks, neutrals, and berries) neutral eyeshadow for special occasions only maybe blush for special occasions but very little This is a very sad list- at least for my makeup obsessed mind. I want to browse the aisles of each and every Sephora, with a perfectly made up face. I love makeup so much. My mom, although she is wonderful, doesn't see eye to eye with me on this. I view makeup as a form of freaking ART ON MY FACE! It's awesome. Do you, my fellow beauty lovers, have any tips on how to convince my parents to let me wear makeup? Do you guys have any similar stories? Ideas, mutual support, anything is appreciated.
I tried the Deluxe Airless Sephora travel kit and I lost about 1 tube and a half of product that I couldn't get out. When I made the return of the deluxe airless kit, they were kind enough to give me one tube of product after seeing how the product was stuck inside the bottle. Anyone have suggestions for a pump bottle with a tube that is thick? Due to my cerebral palsy, I feel like I loose too much product in the current packaging, every time I would open it.
Beauties, when you apply your makeup for the day, when is the point that you are happiest with it? I know some love the look of freshly applied makeup, but I personally feel the best about my makeup after it has had an hour or two to "set" and warm up against my skin. I never really gave this much thought until I started participating in the WAYWT thread, and noticed it because I take those pictures right after I'm done applying makeup, but I always feel like my makeup ends up looking better later on. What about you? Does your makeup have a sweet spot?
