~ Updated Sept 26th 2019 ~

Since the brand is coming to Sephora. I thought I'd start a thread just for the brand for news and info.

Re: THE PAT McGRATH THREAD

@WinglessOne, I was like, do I have Elson 3??? I do!  That was the shade in the Crimson Couture kit.  I can finally let go the whole PMG Supreme Bot Fiasco.  Ahhh, peace...

Re: THE PAT McGRATH THREAD

@danielledanielle  Yay, I’m glad you have Elson 3! And thanks for naming the kit; I couldn’t remember the name and then forgot to look it up. 🤦‍♀️ I do recall laughing hard at all the bot owners when I saw a couple people compare Supreme and Elson 3 in videos. (Though I’m sure they still made money off people who just had to have that Supreme branded case.) I kinda feel like Elson 3 was Pat saying “lost bot royale for Supreme? Don’t worry, I got you.”

Re: THE PAT McGRATH THREAD

Great @WinglessOne , yes I have Elson 3.  I think I recall this discussion too. Case closed! 😆

Re: THE PAT McGRATH THREAD

@WinglessOne I can’t believe I forgot about those.

Re: THE PAT McGRATH THREAD

@WinglessOne  Wow! Thank you for telling me I didn’t know that that’s so cool 😎

Re: THE PAT McGRATH THREAD

@peculiarzmakeup @I’m not sure

Re: THE PAT McGRATH THREAD

@peculiarzmakeup @It’s not the first time PMG has done a lipstick collab. They did one with Supreme a couple of years ago.

Re: THE PAT McGRATH THREAD

Sigh…

Re: THE PAT McGRATH THREAD

@makeitup305  This Pallette is so pretty 🤩

Re: THE PAT McGRATH THREAD

@makeitup305  I was unhappy when I got the email, until I realized “oh, it’s just a reissue of Divine Rose II.” 🤣 Initially I saw “Divine Rose” and the palette and got very not another new bleepin’ pink rose palette for a minute.

Not fond of this as a cash grab though, since the original VIII’s still very much available for $128—or less, if you have Ulta points or Nordy Notes to spend on it.

Re: THE PAT McGRATH THREAD

@WinglessOne it does seem like a cash grab. It’s so lame. If she’d done a palette with that red and blue that’s on that rose now that’s another story.

Re: THE PAT McGRATH THREAD

@makeitup305  Right? When that collection was first announced, I wondered why the heck none of the quad shadow colors reflect the blue rose + red background packaging. I didn’t know Mothership VIII was also going to be part of the collection… what a lost opportunity to release something in a bold break from pinktopia.

I’ve been wondering how much creative control Pat still has over her brand. I’ve heard (but have not looked up info to confirm) the brand’s gotten new investors in the last few years, and the brand’s consistently too-safe/similar Motherships and lipstick shades are an attempt to appease them via higher sales. (Because so many people love pink palettes and lipsticks, I guess.) I might’ve even said all that in this thread before 😅, but now that the brand’s doing reissues like this one, I’m questioning even harder. I was so thrilled to see that Dark Star Blitz Sapphire eyeshadow and promptly bought one. Are there really not many fans left of Pat McGrath’s more “editorial” offerings? I’d love to help encourage more of those releases from the brand, but obviously lots of people would also need to purchase them in order to convince the brand and its investors to stick with that direction.

Re: THE PAT McGRATH THREAD

@WinglessOne I’ve thought the same. I wonder how much of what we see in the beauty space as trending actually translates to sales. I’m sure the beauty content that we perceive has a heavy bias so we might think something is popular but no one except hardcore makeup enthusiasts are buying it. Nevertheless, for a brand that was founded on more editorial and unique products and packaging, PMG (as a brand) has become very monotonous (imo). I was so inspired by their latest runway show ( even if the doll skin make me a little uncomfortable) and I think it was a big reminder to makeup lovers that Pat McGrath is renowned for a reason. I wish more of that was represented in her line, even if it’s not the most wearable. I know brands have to make money, and overall makeup sales have declined, but idk if going so mainstream is the way to go for this brand. But idk, what do I know.

Re: THE PAT McGRATH THREAD

If I didn't have this one, I'd probably get it. 😅. But, I get what you mean @makeitup305

Re: THE PAT McGRATH THREAD

@danielledanielle I skipped this one when it came out and I still haven’t bought it. I’m not a fan of reissuing an old product with new packaging plus a price hike.

Re: THE PAT McGRATH THREAD

Does anyone remember - didn't they already do this with both Divine Rose and Divine Rose II? I'm pretty sure my goddaughter benefited from me giving her my gently used originals in the black packaging, so I could pick up the baby pink and rose gold versions. YOU CAN'T MAKE ME BUY THIS A THIRD TIME, DAME PAT! @makeitup305

Nordstrom doesn’t have Pat’s full catalog, but I saw several Motherships, some (but not all) MatteTrance shades, the SatinAllures, blushes, bronzers, foundation, concealer, primer… probably a mirror of what’s at Ulta. (I haven’t compared inventory at both retailers.)

If the next Mothership’s not another pink rose color story, I’ll be able to use Nordy Notes to get it for free! That’s a big deal (to me) because unlike my Ulta points, my Nordy Notes do expire. It’s good to have even more things to spend ‘em on before time’s up.

Re: THE PAT McGRATH THREAD

I was at work and missed the PMG live on IG recreating her Margiela porcelain doll look. Did anyone catch it?

Re: THE PAT McGRATH THREAD

@makeitup305 @I only saw little bits of it. I think she is going to post the video on IG.

Re: THE PAT McGRATH THREAD

@SportyGirly125 ok, thanks for the info, I'll keep an eye out!

Re: THE PAT McGRATH THREAD

@SportyGirly125 @makeitup305  I missed it too, so I’ll watch for the repost.
