Lets Talk...Drug Store Makeup

I've been such a slave to Sephora & Ulta that I no longer own any drug store makeup. I'm on a tight budget right now so therefore I must downgrade on a few items. What are you favorite drug store or department store makeups? Eyeliners/Mascaras/Gloss/Eyeshadow...anything...Thanks!

L'Oreal voluminous butterfly mascara - this one is fairly new, but I love the way the brush really fills in the outer lashes.

L'Oreal extra-intense liquid pencil eyeliner - I like how easy this glides on.  It is the best of both world between a pencil and liquid eyeliner.

Re: Lets Talk...Drug Store Makeup

L'oreal mascaras- any of them! Voluminous (carbon black) has been my go-to since I started wearing makeup, and i still reach for it more than my high-end ones.

real techniques brushes- pricey if you're looking at it from a drugstore view, but these are amazing and really great quality!

Rimmel lipsticks- especially the Kate Moss line (but I also like the ones in the purple tubes), opaque and doesnt bleed.

Covergirl lipsticks (purple tubes)- something I tried when I was first getting into makeup, and I still buy these. VERY long lasting, and they leave a stain behind.

Milani baked blushes

Wet n Wild bronzers & highlighters- (the square bronzer/highlighter shimmer products from the fergie collection are AMAZING)

Re: Lets Talk...Drug Store Makeup

Absolutely agree with RT brushes. Best brushes I've owned.

Re: Lets Talk...Drug Store Makeup

Maybelline Volume Express Rocket Volume Mascara - my HG mascara. It's kind of wet at first, but after a few uses it is AMAZINGGGGG + a tube lasts for a long time. I've been using it forever and love it - 0 complaints. I recently have been trying some high end mascaras and nothing compares. I didn't even know what a "flakey" mascara was until I tried high end ones, hahaha. I have like 6 backups because I have the irrational fear that they will stop making it!!! Smiley Tongue

NYX Butter Glosses - amazing, delicious smelling, opaque lip glosses!

Milani Baked Blushes - every single shade is GORGEOUS. Definitely give you that "glowing from within" look.

Wet n Wild Blushes - not a huge color selection, but they are SOO pigmented and long wearing. and CHEAP!

My biggest qualm about most foundations is that they rub off and my favorite foundation out of everything I have tried, including several from Sephora, is Revlon Colorstay Whipped Cream Foundation. I hate the packaging, it's in a heavy jar, but the product is great. Also, Revlon now has shadow links, which lets you customize your own palette because they link together once you buy them. I love this because I never seem to like all the colors in one. Also, Physicians Formula has a blush that is great, I think it is called Mood Booster or something like that.

In case you missed calamity's first post in the second page, we also have a cheap thrills thread on BT! Smiley Happy

Tons of pages of good info there too!

Re: Lets Talk...Drug Store Makeup

I love Real Techniques brushes! I'm not sure if they're considered drug store products or not, but I've seen them at a drug store. I have the eye set, and they are amazing! I like them better than my Sephora Collection brushes, and they're cheaper! I also really like Sonia Kashuk brushes, which are even cheaper than Real Techniques. I also love Sally Hansen and Essie nail polish.

Maybelline Lash Discovery is a great lower lash mascara.  It's actually great for upper lashes too, but the very thin brush makes it especially suited for the lower lash line.

Timely thread! I just picked up some youtube raves:

~Jordana Best Lash Extreme Vol. mascara--my tube has an extremely wet formula, flaked wet & dry on my face. Not sure, but I think this is the one that they said gets better with use, we'll see...I will give this a few more chances.

~Milani Eyeshadow Primer--they say this is better than UDPP & Shadow Insurance, my shadow creased, it never, ever creases with UD, will try again today.

~Rimmel Scandaleyes in nude for waterline--don't know why I even bought this, I know I can't have any liner, any brand in my water line due to irritation, my eyes were blurry & red all day, My fault there.

~Milani baked blush--haven't tried it yet, will do today!

So far, meh on everything that I tried.  I've been really disappointed with drug store makeup lately...

I also heard rave reviews about Milani's Eyeshadow Primer and my shadow also creased when I used it.  I will play around with it...maybe try using more and using less...to see if I have better results.  I have very oily eyelids so primer is very important to me.

I've heard glowing reviews on NYX butter glosses and Milani baked blushes. I also love NYX slide-on pencils. They glide on so effortlessly.

Re: Lets Talk...Drug Store Makeup

Something I really like from the drugstore is the Revlon Photoready Eye Primer + Brightener in 003. It's a dupe for MAC's prep + Prime in Rose. I really love it, and it's great as a highlighter!

I also love all the L'Oreal Extraordinaire lip colors. They're all so buttery and soft, and small enough to carry on your person at all times.

Re: Lets Talk...Drug Store Makeup

I only use two drugstore products, but I love these more than mid-range and high-end products:

Eyeliner: Maybelline Ultra Liner. It's waterproof and doesn't smudge. I recommend this all the time on this page as it's the only liner I use and I use it every day for my winged look.

Lippie: Loreal Wet Shine/Aqua Lacquer. I've seen these with two different names but they're the same thing. They are an exact dupe of YSL's Glossy Stains (same formulation, staying power, and smell).

I'm not huge on drug store products but I do have quite a few of the following:

Jordana Lip Liner

Maybelline Vivid's Collection Lip Sticks

Maybelline Lip Laquers

NYX Butter Gloss

Milani Baked Blush

Loreal Tru Match Lumi Foundation

Lips: Revlon Laquer Balms are awesome, they're super pigmented and some come in matte, they're like $7.00.

Eyes: Maybelines precise liquid eye pen is such a great product it was my first liquid liner and is perfect for thin lines, thick wings etc.

Revlon 3D Mascara is absolutely awesome as well.

I also suggest looking at beauty vloggers, they always talk bout drug store products. Makeupbytiffanyd is a good one to follow.

I'm generally not an E.L.F. fan (maybe I've just tried all the wrong things?) but I can't get enough of their new Ex-tra glosses. On par with, and if not better than, MAC, Lancome, etc. Seriously, I can't believe how good they are, and only $2. The drawback is that the shade range is super limited. I would Google for swatches instead of trusting the little color square they have on the website.

I also like Maybelline's Color Elixir glosses, Physician's Formula eyeliners, L'Oreal Infallible eyeshadows, and a bunch of Maybelline's mascaras. Smiley Happy

Re: Lets Talk...Drug Store Makeup

I love Nyx for lip products, specifically gloss.  I also love EcoTools brushes.

Re: Lets Talk...Drug Store Makeup

I highly recommend Maybelline mascaras. My HG mascara is The Rocket (the one in the blue tube). I also love Loreal Color Riche Lipsticks, they have a nice scent, and the colors are nice (though they do have to be reapplied every couple of hours if you plan on talking...)

Re: Lets Talk...Drug Store Makeup

  • Maybelline gel liner - unlike my Mac one, this one does not dry up, and it's really nice. The only problem is I have to go back to Mac for unique colors, the Maybelline range has like 3 colors or something like that.
  • Maybelline mascaras, especially The Rocket and the Falsies in the yellow tube.
  • Maybelline Color Tattoos are a really good dupe for Mac's paint pots, and I like them more actually (the paint pots just look really dry on me for some reason and wouldn't blend as much)
  • Loreal Infallible eyeshadows are basically the only regular drugstore e/s I own - I have really oily lids, and nothing works other than these ones. And they have really pretty colors.
  • Rimmel had my favorite drugstore mascara but they discontinued it, but they still carry good mascaras and eyeliners.

Re: Lets Talk...Drug Store Makeup

NYX also has dirt cheap single eyeshadows in neutrals that are great as brow powders! I apply it with a wet angle brush for a more precise line or dry for a natural look.

The Jumbo Eye Pencils are so versatile as well. I use 'Milk' for a brow bone/inner corner highlight and as a base for bright eyeshadow looks. You can even use it to waterline for that awesome 60's mod doe-eyed look (I have been a big fan of this lately!)

Re: Lets Talk...Drug Store Makeup

Some of my favorite drugstore products:

NYX:

-slide on eye pencil (reminiscent of Urban Decay liners)

-eyeshadows: Love in Paris palettes, Love in Rio palettes, Ultra Pearl Mania Loose Pearl Eye Shadow (these are the only ones I've tried and I like them all)

L'oreal:

-Colour Riche Extraordinary Lip Color

-Colour Riche Caresse Aqua Lacquer Lip Stain

...I'm currently crazy about these two in particular; they're so smooth and buttery, and the lip stain is very similar to Yves Saint Laurent's.
