Guerlain Meteorites - Old vs. New

[ Edited ]

Hi beauties!

I know a lot of people are interested in knowing about the new Guerlain Meteorites and how they compare to the old formula. In the last two weeks I have acquired the new formula in Clair and Medium, and the old formula in Teint Rose and Teint Beige. I think this gives me a good perspective to compare the two formulas in an unbiased manner since I got them both at the same time without being in love with one or the other first :smileyhappy: (for the record I am equally in love with all of them!)

Let's start off with a picture!

going top to bottom, left to right we have Clair (new), Teint Rose (old), Medium (new) and Teint Beige (old).

I am not going to spend too much time lamenting the decreased quantity of balls in the new formulas. We all know it's true and it is just a sad fact that we meteorites lovers are going to have to deal with eventually, sigh. The good thing is that, as most agree, these balls last for a LONG time and I believe the same will hold true for the new formula as well.

To me, the new formulas are definitely easier to pick up with your brush. Some have said that they have more broken meteorites with the new formula because they are softer but I haven't had any issue with that. And though it is easier to get more powder on your brush, I haven't felt that the softer formula leads to over-doing application at all.

The biggest difference I have noticed between the old and new formulas (for both shades) is that the new formula has more shimmer to it. That being said, the actual shimmer particles seem smaller in the new formula which is something I like.

Another observation I had was that the new formulas have a bit more color to them than the old. The picture below shows the new formulas across the top and the old across the bottom. As you can see, the new Medium has more pink balls than the Beige does, while the Clair has more light gold balls than Rose (Rose looks to have more of the white/cream balls). I am planning to look at the actual ratio of color balls in each once I have a safe place to dump them all out... my bathroom has been scary lately haha.

Over all, as I've said, I love them all and I honestly don't think you can go wrong with any of the four! My recommendations would be that for those of you interested in a bit more warmth your glow go for the new Medium. If you are fair and want illumination, the new Clair is a good bet. If you are fair and need redness correcting you might prefer the old Teint Rose if you can find it. Teint Beige would be best if you would prefer your meteorites to have slightly, and really it is quite slight, less shimmer with a little more warmth than Rose or Clair.

Hopefully this helps everyone who is on the fence about which to purchase, or whether you need to go out and purchase the new formula asap!

Long story short:

They really do make you feel fabulous and pampered when you're putting them on. They give you a nice special extra something glow.

Did you need all four? Probably not...

Did I just order this:

Yes, yes I did (fingers crossed that it's authentic!)

Re: Guerlain Meteorites - Old vs. New

xpap, thank you so much for that review! do you find that the teint beige gives you any color? i have the teint rose and teint beige and both work fine on my skin but rose probably gives me a more glowy look than beige. i thought beige was going to add warmth but can't say that it actually does. so of course, i'm wondering if i should try dore or the new formulation in medium. for reference i'm mufe 118/chanel va 20.

Re: Guerlain Meteorites - Old vs. New

Hi ghkim, I'm glad you found the review helpful! Today I am just wearing my Teint Beige Meteorites over my moisturizer and the Meteorites Light-Diffusing Perfecting Primer (got a small one in the precious lights set). The reason I decided to go with the Teint Beige today is because I thought I would get a little more warmth than from the two lighter shades and I wore Medium almost every day last week. I think that the Teint Beige did give a slight bit of color where, as you said, the Teint Rose would have illuminated but not really added any color. I wish I had the two darker shades so I could give you a better answer!

In my opinion the new Medium doesn't offer much more warmth than Teint Beige, so since you know Teint Beige doesn't give you quite as much warmth/glow as you're looking for (and you are a little darker than I am) then it sounds like you need Teint Dore or Dore 04 - overall, if I had to choose, I slightly prefer the new formula over the old so my final recommendation would be for Dore 04.

Good luck and let us know what you end up doing!

This is exactly the kind of review I have been hoping someone would do. I got beige in November, but I've had my eye on clair/rose since then. I just ordered the old rose and dore. They're back ordered and only rose has a expected ship date, so hopefully I'll actually get them both!

The only reasonable thing to do is buy ALL of them, right?!

Re: Guerlain Meteorites - Old vs. New

I have a write up of about 10 different meteorites pressed/perles with swatches on my blog, I don't know if it's bad form to mention that... but I think it's a helpful comparison that would be interesting to some people.

Good luck! Where did you end up ordering them from? I ordered my old formulas from Neiman Marcus online but I think some shades are back ordered as well but they do have expected delivery dates.

I can't agree with your last sentence more! :smileywink:

I ordered them from Neiman Marcus online too. Teint Rose had an expected ship date of no later than 1/29, but Teint Dore just said it was backordered, without a date specified. I don't shop on their website very often so I'm not sure if the lack of a date means my order might get canceled.  Fingers crossed!

If you don't plan on keeping all four, I would be interested in purchasing the old version Teint Rose from you.   I believe that one has the fewest 'pink' balls.  <3

I think I can put all four to good use but I appreciate the offer!

As Britlee recommended, check out Neiman Marcus - I got Teint Rose and Teint Beige from them (ordered online).

If that doesn't work for you try calling any Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales or Nordstroms in your area to see if they still have any in stock.

Good luck!

Re: Guerlain Meteorites - Old vs. New

Neiman Marcus still has Teint Rose! I just double checked and looks like it's on back order until January 29th but at least it's still available there!

Re: Guerlain Meteorites - Old vs. New

I was able to get the old formula at Nordstrom. The sales associate I normally deal with knew that I was looking for them so she put all three aside for me to decide. When I got there, I couldn't decide so I got all three. I also went head first into this new obsession. Lol.

It all started when I got the Crazy Pearls and I recently traded the Clair 02 for the Perles du Paradis.

Re: Guerlain Meteorites - Old vs. New

Thank you for the review! I didn't own any meteorites either but had been wanting to try them for a long time when I heard about the formula change. I decided to buy all 3 of the old colors while I still could, for a few reasons. 1. They do have more product for less money, so why not take advantage of that while I can? 2. Especially since I got all 3, they will last so long that I am not worried about running out anytime soon and hating/being "forced" to use the new formula...plus I don't wear makeup every single day and I will rotate these with the Hourglass Ambient powders that I have so I think it is more likely that they will expire 5-10 years from now rather than me running out. 3. I can still buy the new formula at any time, especially during the 15 or 20% off sales, but I felt like this was my last chance to get the old formula from a reliable seller!

I agree with all of your points Britlee and think they are important for every prospective buyer to consider! Those are the same reasons I got the old formulas as well (and I got the new formula because I just couldn't resist!) I didn't get Teint Dior because I thought it might be too dark for me though now I'm reconsidering! What is your skin tone? Do you notice that Teint Dior has more color than Teint Beige?

I'm glad I'm not the only one who ventured into meteorites with a sudden splurge!

Re: Guerlain Meteorites - Old vs. New

I wish I could be more helpful but unfortunately Teint Beige and Teint Dore were on back order by the time I got to them so I won't be receiving those ones for 2 or 3 more weeks :smileysad: My skin is pretty fair, but I do get tan in the summer. I think during the summer I will probably be able to get away with using them all over my face, but in the winter I would use them in the same areas as bronzer and put a lighter shade in the center of my face. It was probably not the most necessary purchase for me to make, but at soon as they were going to be gone I needed them haha.

Re: Guerlain Meteorites - Old vs. New

You just may be the BT meteorite expert now.  Wow- all four at once! I was planning on purchasing Medium in the spring, so this helps!  Wow, you must really like these to have all four!  I am guessing Medium will suit me in the summer/fall when I have and want more color and Clair will work for winter and spring when I am more pale.  What brush do you use to apply them?

Thanks!

Oh yes, I love them so so much! I think you will find that medium will work well for you in the spring/summer but will also still be flattering and appropriate when you are pale as well. It sounds like you and I have similar coloring and I definitely think that if I had to choose just one I would choose medium because it is more versatile for my coloring year round.

I would recommend getting the new meteorites brush. I mentioned in a response below the three brushes I've tried and I think the meteorites brush does the best job in terms of picking up the right amount of product. I usually do one "coat" on my whole face then a second in any areas I want to give a little extra oomph!

And i'm curious, what brush are you using to apply them?
