I've heard things about the Monistat Chaffing Cream being good dupe for Smashbox's Photo Finish!

Re: For those of us that like Dupes...

I wouldn't use the Monistat product on my face. Even though the ingredients are very similar to the Smashbox Photo Finish, we don't know the concentration of each ingredient. Plus, the Photo Finish has ingredients that will benefit the skin.

I found that even though the Hourglass Immaculate starts out as a liquid and the Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse starts out as a Mousse they both apply very much the same, have relatively the same finish, and the same coverage! The price difference Hourglass being $55 and the Maybelline $8.99 (but you can get this on sale half the time at the drugstore).

While they may apply the same and appear similarly on the skin my guess is the Maybelline doesn't perform like the Hourglass. For example, Hourglass Immaculate has kaolin clay which absorbs sebum. I have actually felt it absorbing when wearing without moisturizer one time. That's a big deal for super oily folks. It also has antioxidants and antiaging ingredients. Dream Matte is probably great for young, combo skin though.

I never claimed that the mousse absorbed sebum I merely stated that it had the same finish, similar application, and around the same coverage. Dupes aren't always 100% on it's supposed to be something that is close or similar. I think it's funny your telling me what the foundation I already own and love does? Obviously I am aware of all the workings of Immaculate because I wear it myself.

Re: For those of us that like Dupes...

I have been looking for a higher-end dupe of the finish of Maybelline's Dream Matte Mouse. I am so excited to try this.

Re: For those of us that like Dupes...

This is my favorite higher end foundation! Just keep in mind it's designed for oily skin. So if you have dry or normal or combination make sure to moisturize really well first to get the best application. I really hope you like it as much as I do!

Re: For those of us that like Dupes...

I actually tried the maybelline mousse foundation in highschool. I think in Sophmore year because one of my friends who were "first to wear makeup" introduced it to me

I don't know if I would buy it again, but its surprisingly nice. I didn't use any brush back then, but it applied more evenly with fingers than any other bb creams I've tried in the past (which I buy for the purpose of wearing it with just fingers on days I have no clean brushes)

I have fair to light skin, and the color was great; and the foundation truly stayed the entire day on my "adolescent oily skin." without becoming cakey or patchy. It didn't look flat either.

Catrice I think is harder to get in US but has a great mousse to powder foundation that's a bit better than the maybelline version

Re: For those of us that like Dupes...

I've wanted to try this, but I'm too lazy to return it if I don't like it haha

Re: For those of us that like Dupes...

I just tried it today for the first time and I absolutely loved it. I have went through so many expensive foundations that haven't even performed half as well as the stay matte mousse did today. I was inside our new property helping my dad tear out the kitchen cabinets and tile (massively sweating) and surprisingly it all stayed on. There's a tiny bit of fading around the nose, but I am so impressed! I think it's going to be my new favorite! :smileyhappy:

Re: For those of us that like Dupes...

Have you tried the dream smooth? It says its supposed to be for dry - normal skin but I have oily and it works better for me than the matte! Maybe it just don't like matte finishes haha!

I have to have the matte finish, if I don't it all comes off my face in 3 hours. I'm going to try the Smashbox foundation today my Dad got me, the studio finish, and I'm a little nervous because of it being "hydrating". Usually that word prepares me for a crap ton of oil. :smileytongue:

I remember I got this in highschool and I hated it. It looked so cakey/patchy on me, not to mention that its so unhygienic. Also got a ton of breakouts and it made my skin soooo dry. :smileysad:

How do you apply it? It looks really thick in the little pot, and that's why I never bought it haha.

That's what I assumed too which put me off for a long time from buying it. But it's very bouncy and lightweight. Watching youtube videos I figured out quickly one of the the best ways to apply it was with a stippling brush. That's what I used today for it.

I remember  buying a nude lipgloss from loreal paris? or revlon.. one of those, took me a couple of weeks to finally decide to return it, but man, I look so washed out. Thankfully I found my perfect nude shade in NYX London.

Re: For those of us that like Dupes...

Although Maybelline doesn't have my shade, I have tried it before. I do agree with you about its finish being similar to Hourglass (liquid/mousse to matte, almost powdery finish).

Awww man :/ are you lighter or darker than the range? Or none in the middle matched?

I'm in range, but it appears ORANGE on my skin.

Great thread, tashalicious! I love me some dupes!

Re: For those of us that like Dupes...

The Nars Orgasm / Laguna duo is also an Elf blush / bronzer duo in St Lucia is close but not exact, and the Rimmel Scandal Eyes Waterproof kohl liners is a great dupe for the urban decay glide on pencils and i actually prefer that rimmel because they have a great nude and the black is actually darker than perversion from UD!
