I don't understand the hype either, I agree with those who compare it to Vaseline.  It's basically the same thing.

Aside from the sheer tint and nice smell, you're right--it's just Vaseline. But as girls, we are often attracted to products with pretty names and designs, all of which Rosebud Salve has. This factor--combined with the fact that many don't know that the petroleum is the base of the product, and as Katie said, petroleum has no hydrating properties, it just acts as a shield against harsh weather--is why Rosebud Salve is "all that."

It's nice that it's $6, and, like vaseline, it protects -- but I prefer to use different balms for dryness, as it is impossible for this to hydrate or moisturize your lips. Rosebud Salve is petroleum based, and skin cannot absorb petroleum. That said, the best it will do is coat your lips and form a protective barrier (which can prevent them from chapping in frigid weather, etc.)...but when my lips are truly dry, I need hydration :smileyhappy:

The tin version is a million times better! The one in the tube is a different formula, they had to thin out the product for it to be able to squeeze out of the tube. I've used this product for years, and its a must have item for me.

First off, I had no idea that this came in tube form :smileysurprised: I, like many bought it simply because of the hype. I did find it to be moisturizing, but no more moisturizing than regular chapstick. Needless to say, for lips, I've had better. Korres lip butters is amazingly hydrating! It literally melts into your lips, plus it gives a good natural tint. I wish this came in a tube because I hate jarred lip products. Luckily, I apply with a lip brush not my fingers. The thing I liked about it most was the multitude of uses. Great for all rough dry spots like cuticles and dry elbows and stuff. It also lasts FOREVER! :smileyhappy: I never bought it again after the first time, but that shouldn't deter anyone else from trying it out for themselves.

I have to agree.  I bought it because of the hype as well.  It wasn't all that impressive.  I am a Fresh Sugar junkie.  I LOVE the Freash Sugar balms.  As expensive as they are they work wonders and the tinted shades are awesome.  My lips get very dry in the winter so I use the tinted balms as a daily lipstick color.  Both the rose shade and the plum shade add just the right amount of color for a every day look.

Re: Whats all this hype about the Rosebud Salve??

At first, I didn't get it. I saw a blue tin of it in the check out line at Sephora, and made a spur of the moment purchase. Upon taking it home, I found that it was an above average lip balm. After reading the ingredients, I couldn't find roses anywhere. Sure, it was pink, but it didn't smell like a rose. Still, it kept my lips tolerably soft. After my sister stuck her thumb through the balm to bottom of the tin, I told her that she could keep it. Miles away from a Sephora, I didn't know where to get a new one. However, I stumbled upon one in Bath & Body Works (in a pink tin) that was 9% rose extracts. The smell and the effect is a million times better. I hope that Sephora starts carrying that Bigelow brand so that I can resume my lifelong duty as a loyal customer.

I think the hype is around how long this product has been around! I use it, like the others, on my lips and cuticles, but I also use it as a brow groomer/tamer. After I use a brow filler (browtech of course!) I use this and its really nice and not stiff or starchy on the face. I have had my tin for about 4 yrs and I now carry the tube in my purse...love it

For those that are using it on blemishes- what does it do?

The best lip balm for chapped lips is nivea recovery. It is a disant price for 4.99 and it works really good. Definatly worth the purchase of this product.

Re: Whats all this hype about the Rosebud Salve??

I only have the strawberry one in a tin - I used this for the first time last week since I've had a terrible cold and my lips were SOOO chapped (it was awful) and I could not believe the Quick results I had. Alot of products really seem to make my dry lips worse and this is the first one I've used in a long time that actually made it better. 3 days later my lips are as soft as can be and I really liked the scent/flavor and texture even tho I don't really usually jump for strawberry stuff. I don't know what's in it that worked so well but it makes me want to try the rose version too. I would get the tin and try it if I were you, maybe because the tubes are newer they are a little different in the formulation? Just a guess.

I normally really like Korres Guava, but honestly it's the scent that really pulls me in on that one and the results are just kind of so/so.

I also tried it because of hte hype and absolutely hated it. Plus, petroleum isn't actually good for you or the environment. It just masks the problem making you feel like you're getting hydration when really if you stop you immediately get drier than y ou ever did and then you use it again!

Korres  lip butters are my personal favorite :smileyhappy: moisturizing and I put ito n before I sleep. I don't  even need to use chapstick or anything during the day anymore!

Re: Whats all this hype about the Rosebud Salve??

I use the salve for my cuticles. I brush on the salve around the cuticles on my hands and feet then put on cotton gloves on my hands and cotton socks on my feet and when I wake up my cuticles are nice and supple and I haven't had a hang nail in years and I credit the salve for that.

I have also used it for my lips but didn't care for it too much. I recently heard that you can put it on your heels then put on cotton socks overnight and it will keep the callous' away! :smileyhappy:

absolutely! i have been using this for years! so, i always had a tin somewhere. since they came out with the tube i have been in heaven! i put it on at night (lips) and i can't even remember the last time i had chapped lips. i also love the smell. i haven't used it on anything else, but i know that lots of people use it for skin problems and on their cuticles. so if i ever have a problem there, i'll know what to do!

Re: Whats all this hype about the Rosebud Salve??

Haha, this topic is kind of funny and true. But I actually use Rosebud salve and i LOVE IT. I don't know if the tin is different than the tube, but I have the tin and it works wonders on my lips. I would say though that it is just some rose scented vaseline, but it's pretty cost friendy (i think). I'm not sure how much regular vaseline is, maybe around $1? This one is $7 in a tin I believe, but it does so much more. I put it on my cuticles, sometimes on my blemishes, and all the time on my lips, and it's just amazinggg. The cute tin packaging makes me want to actually take it out and put it on my lips too. :smileyhappy:

Re: Whats all this hype about the Rosebud Salve??

I love this product but you're right, it basically is a rose-scented pink vaseline in a pretty tin container.  Vaseline is just as good if not better for moisturizing.  But the Rosebud makes you feel more pampered and luxurious.

Re: Whats all this hype about the Rosebud Salve??

I use this every night (from the tin) on my lips before I go to bed. It keeps my lips moisturized all night long and it smells really good (but it's not overwhelming). Also: it's super inexpensive and it lasts FOREVER. I don't even want to think about how long I've had my most recent tin. Years, for sure.

Someone gave me the minted version recently, but I don't love it as much as the original.

Re: Whats all this hype about the Rosebud Salve??

It seems a lot like a prettier version of vaseline, but it does so much more! It tames flyways and static, moisturizes cuticles and rough skin, and treats minor blemishes all while being a super lip balm. It's also nice to mix with sugar for a lip scrub. (Also the tube is way more hygienic.)
