Bite Beauty - Allergic Reactions?

Anyone else have an allergic reaction on their lips to Bite Beauty products? I know they have all natural ingredients, which is why I'm perplexed. I've tried two different products from them and end up with eczema-like cuts on my lips.

Re: Bite Beauty - Allergic Reactions?

Ah me too! Hate to throw out two $30.00 lipsticks but, can't take the flaky lips and burning. Glad I found this thread...

Re: Bite Beauty - Allergic Reactions?

I am able to use the original luminous crème formula but the new amuse bouche formula no. I have an almond allergy and anything that has almond oil is a no go which seems to be getting popular in products.

Re: Bite Beauty - Allergic Reactions?

I thought that I was the only one.  I wore Bite Beauty Kale with no issues.  So I bought another shade and my lips were blistering and raw within hours of wearing the new shade.   I returned it.

Re: Bite Beauty - Allergic Reactions?

I am allergic to the Agave Lip Mask. I used it with great results for a month, then, after using it one night, I woke up with badly swollen lips (looked like I had bad lip injections). Lots of itch and irritation. My guess is that I'm allergic to lanolin, because the Clinique Pop Lipsticks also have it and I developed a similar (but milder) reaction to those.

Re: Bite Beauty - Allergic Reactions?

I had the same exact reaction! It’s terrible I thought it was just to the tinted lip mask because I had been using the clear for months prior to any reaction. But, just tried the clear out again after months of not using it and I’m having the same symptoms it’s so painful!

Re: Bite Beauty - Allergic Reactions?

I had the exact same thing with the Agave mask! Wore it for months with no problem, then one day woke up with little water blisters on my lips. I've never had that reaction from any other lip product so I was totally perplexed. Then I tried a couple of the Matte Lip Crayons and the same thing happened. I've been scared to try anything from Bite since 😞

Re: Bite Beauty - Allergic Reactions?

Yeah, I've recently had those cuts on my lips when I used the agave lip mask (which was my winter savior about three years ago, so this is new to me) and when I used the amuse bouche lipstick in Kimchi. So I did some digging, and both of these have Monk Fruit in them, which has some of the same chemical structure of latex. I have a latex allergy, so I'm probably reacting to that. If you have a latex allergy, this may be your problem! (I cross-referenced ingredients in both of these products with ingredients in the Fresh Lip Treatment, found the similar ingredients in the two I'm reacting to, and the similar ingredients in Fresh, and then looked into Monk Fruit extract, which was one of the only ones not in the Fresh one. Research life!)

Re: Bite Beauty - Allergic Reactions?

Same here! I bought the holiday 4x sample kit!Had to returned it. 😞

I only used Nori though but felt so bad

Re: Bite Beauty - Allergic Reactions?

Within a few hours of application of either bite lipstick or gloss, my lips itch and I develop red, swollen, weeping spots on the top and bottom of my lips. This happens no matter the color. Once I remove the products and use Aquaphor for a couple day, it heals. I'm trying to determine what is causing the reaction so I can check future purchases to avoid it.

Re: Bite Beauty - Allergic Reactions?

I looked into it when I had a similar reaction, if you have a latex allergy, it could be the monk fruit that they use in their products.

Re: Bite Beauty - Allergic Reactions?

The same thing happened to me!!! Did you use the aquaphor lip repair?

Re: Bite Beauty - Allergic Reactions?

Personally I'm allergic to Beeswax (more specifically propolis in beeswax). The allergy randomly came on a couple years ago. It seems to depend a lot on the amount and/or originating location of the propolis, so different brands I have different reactions to. Bite makes my lips itchy within about 30 minutes and progresses into cracked corners and swollen the lips after a day's wear. It eventually would turn into blisters around my lips if I used products for a couple days. I thought at first I got cold sores for the first time in my life! In other words, once I narrowed down my allergy I stopped touching any lip products with Beeswax in it. Unfortunately for me that meant my Bite products were donated to a friend.

Re: Bite Beauty - Allergic Reactions?

I'm sooooooo glad you mentioned this!! I'm also allergic to beeswax and I was about to purchase the Bite holiday tin. I have one of their old lipsticks in Restina which works fine for me so maybe that ingredient wasn't in the old ones? Thank you for this @Llgc you saved me from a return!! 🙂

Re: Bite Beauty - Allergic Reactions?

@ShopgirlM you're welcome! I was able to use the old Bite lipsticks infrequently, and beeswax was high on the list. It would only start getting irritated after a full day of wear or if I wore it consecutive days. The new ones though... Seriously swollen itchy lips almost immediately. Quickest return of my life. Since it's propolis in beeswax I'm sensitive to, I was thinking it either increased substantially in the ingredients, or they changed suppliers, or something changed with their current supply. My reaction is always to beeswax but varying degrees mostly dependant on brands. Glad I could save you a return and possible lip pain! 🙂

Re: Bite Beauty - Allergic Reactions?

I think that may be what I am having a problem with as well. My first reaction was to Fresh Lip Balm which has bees wax. The next reaction was to Bite Agave Lip Mask and then the Bite Lipsticks. I never put it together. Thank you so, so much. I just tried Benefit mascara They're Real for two days and my eyes hurt terribly both days. I searched the ingredients and there was bees wax. Now I know!!! Thank you @Llgc for the information.

Re: Bite Beauty - Allergic Reactions?

@Antonia99 You're welcome! It took me a long time to figure out since it's in almost everything. If you want a lip product without beeswax that's friendly on the wallet, Hurraw balms are pretty amazing (only balms I've fully used up - about 20 times 😄 ) and very minimal ingredients. If you still have a reaction to them it might be castor oil or coconut oil (I've heard of people with allergies to those two as well!). Good luck!

Re: Bite Beauty - Allergic Reactions?

I will be on the lookout. You have really changed my life for the better. All of these years I had no idea why mascara hurt my eyes. This time I just went right to the ingredients after reading your post and my symptoms for the lipsticks and "Boom", there it was, bees wax. Thanks again, I hope others will see this and shop wisely.

Re: Bite Beauty - Allergic Reactions?

Thank you so much for this thread, I have been to the doctor twice and did not know what to do or really what was causing it. I recently had a rash on my head from Alterna Shampoo and Conditioner samples. I am sitting here now with hydrocortisone on my lips thanks to your advice...thanks again everyone.

Re: Bite Beauty - Allergic Reactions?

I started having dry raw lips with that were not really chapped in the normal sense but I had tiny little cuts and dry skin along the edges of my lips. I saw the doctor and he said to stop using everything except vaseline or aquaphor. My lips were okay but not really healing. I saw a facialist who recommended NaturaBisse Essential Shock Intense eye and lip cream twice a day. It is a miracle. My lips cleared up in three days. I tried Bite beauty lipstick one morning this week, and the swelling, tears, and dryness are back. I threw all my lipsticks away ( 12 of them). I was on here looking for someone with a similar problem @dmichelle. I threw out the agave lip mask months ago but just figured out it was the lipsticks, too. L'Oreal lippies do it also.

Re: Bite Beauty - Allergic Reactions?

I think I've developed a reaction to the Agave Lip Masks which is so weird because I used them for 5 months with no issues, and I don't have issues with other Bite products. I had a smaller tube from a kit and used it up so I purchased a full size and used it no differently. But my lower lip seemed to be really dry all the time and nothing was helping. I tried coconut oil, a homemade sugar scrub, other lip treatments, everything. At first I thought my lips were just sunburned, since I did get a bit of color the weekend before. I read other people talking about issues with Bite products and really hoped it wasn't that, but in the interested of science, I stopped using it. After a few days, my lips felt better.

Fast forward to a couple of days ago. My lips have been totally fine, no issues. So one night before bed, I decided to try the Agave Lip Mask again. In the interest of science, of course. Well, I woke up the next morning and my lips were exactly as bad as they were a month ago! They still have't fully recovered. I think I'm passed the 90 days to return it as well, so I'm out a good chunk of change. Ugh.

Re: Bite Beauty - Allergic Reactions?

I am now 100% sure that my lip reactions are due to Bite lipsticks.  I have tried two different kinds and different colors and each time it starts with a burning tingling on the edge of my upper lip and then turns into tiny little bumps with swelling.  I did not want to believe it because I love the way it looks and feels when I first put it on, but after taking a break for over a month, I tried it again this morning and am noticing the same symptoms.  Bummed!

I'm wondering if the infused resveratrol or Manuka honey has anything to do with it?  I have had reactions to honey in the past, but with slightly different symptoms.
