Best restorative lip treatment...

In order to wear lip color, lips need to be even and smooth. So for dry, chapped, cracked or sunburnt lips, what product is best to restore and condition lips, making them soft and smooth again? What's the best lip balm you know of? The best lip exfoliator? What lip gloss also conditions and softens lips as well as adding shine and/or color? I like Sara Happ "The Lip Scrub" for an exfoliator. I like Sara Happ "The Lip Slip" and Josie Maran "Argan Lip Treatment" for lip balms. What about all of you? :smileyhappy:

Rose Salve from C.O. Bigelow does miracles. If you are looking for a daily use chapstick though, Burts Bees works great for during the day and then apply the Rose Salve at night!

The best restorative lip product I've found is a lip balm that keeps my lips soft and protects them from the sun at the same time.  It’s called Blistex Deep Renewal Lip Protectant/Sunscreen.  My lips are very easily chapped so I wear this to bed every night and it stays on all through the night leaving me with soft, ready-for-lipstick lips in the morning.  I also wear it when outdoors and it keeps my lips moisturized for hours and protects them from the sun’s UVA and UVB rays with its SPF 15.  You can find it anywhere Blistex products are sold, such as Ulta, Target, Wal-Mart, etc.  I think this lip balm works better than any of the expensive ones I’ve used.  Here's a picture of what it looks like in its packaging, in case any of you want to look for it:

As for lip exfoliants, I loved Laura Geller's Sugar Lip Scrub, but Sephora quit carrying Laura Geller and it became too much of a hassle trying to find it.  I'm currently doing the old-fashioned, cheap method of exfoliating my lips which is:

  • Take an old toothbrush (preferably one with straight bristles which are very soft) and put a bit of Vaseline on it.
  • Rub the toothbrush on your lips in circular motions.
  • Leave the Vaseline to hydrate your lips, but rub it off right before applying your lipstick.

My lips are such divas I can't wear lipstick because they dry out no matter what I do (put on chapstick, use a moisturizing lipstick, etc).

To exfoliate I love Smashbox's Emulsion Lip Exfoliant (http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P42915&shouldPaginate=true&categoryId=3990) . It softens the chapped areas and the sugar and poppy seeds help buff them off. It's slightly runny so it's best if you do it at home instead of on-th-go.

But for moisturizing afterwards I love:

  •  Clinique's Superbalm (http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P122739&shouldPaginate=true&categoryId=1254)- not too sticky (I don't think it is compared to toher stuff but others might say it is) and it's fragrance and color free so you could put it on underneath or over lip products.
  • MAC's Lip Conditioner (not at Sephora but the MAC counter :smileywink:)-this stuff smells good and works really well! makes my lips soft and pillowy.
  • Aquaphor (available at drugstores)-almost like the cheaper version of Clinique's Superbalm. It's fragrance and color free and works like a charm.

I love using Clinique's All About Lips and Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in Plum, Rose or original.  For color, I tend to put sunblock or the Fresh lip treatment spf 15 underneath for coverage (other than the skin around your eyes, the skin on your lips is the thinnest skin on your body and sunburns really easily, and we usually don't put sunblock on them).  Then I put on lipstick or my favorite lip gloss on top, usually a Clinique lip gloss, since they have spf.  My lips used to chap and peel really easily, and it wasn't until I started using products that had sunblock or sunscreen in them that I realized my lips were actually burning and peeling due to the sun! (Lip gloss without spf actually magnifies the sun on your lips, similar to being on the water without sunblock.)

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment. http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P57002&categoryId=C11400  I know there are probably cheaper alternatives but I refuse to wear vaseline feeling products on my lips.  For a long time, I just dealt with chapped lips than use those products.  This is the only balm that does not feel awful, contains no mint/menthol, doesn't smell awful, and actually works. I love it.

As far as exfoliation goes, I just use a DIY concoction.
