lip solution for big lips

so I've got big lips, what's the best lip stick/ lipgloss for me? I'd like a natural and hydrated look, but don't want my lip to look any bigger than it's already is. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance!

The shiny-er your lips are, the bigger they look. The lighter your lip colors are, the bigger they look. So, any lipstick or stain with matte finish, dark color (wine, berry, dark red), or nude/neutral color will make your lips look smaller (Tarte matte lipSurgence, any nude-ish lipstick).

If you want hydrated look with bright colors, I suggest tinted lip balm such as Fresh Sugar, Korres Lip butter. Or if you really like bright colored gloss, apply to the center only and let it gradually fades out instead of applying to whole lips.

I agree with what's mentioned above. For sure playing with more matte colors versus glossy will help soften the appearance of your lips. Make sure your lips are hydrtated and not chapped as well. I like using Fresh Sugar Lip Poliah lip scrub once a week or more during dry weather and top it on over with their Sugar Lip Treatment.

Fresh - Sugar Lip Treatment SPF 15Honey (great natural color for everyday with color and SPF)

In terms of lip choices, I would stay within a few shades lighter or darker than your natural lip. If you were to use gloss, i'd concentrate it in the center of the lips versus all over for a more pouty lip.My suggestion would be to keep within the rose, rusted rose with a hint of brown if you are looking for color on your lips but nothing to stand out.

I understand, I have pretty big/full lips too, but I prefer my eyes to be the center of attention on my face, so I try to play down the lips and play up the eyes.  Try just using plain chapstick and maybe a little sheer gloss on your lips, but avoid the edges of your lips so that the shine is on the center of your lip.  This way, you'll avoid kind of a "pout lip", which would make your lips appear bigger.  This is a natural look that I like to do for school.  And don't forget, if you can draw peoples' attention away from your lips, they won't look noticeably big, just kind of nice and full.  So maybe use a little eyeliner or something to draw more attention away from those luscious lips of yours.  But remember, a lot of people strive for bigger lips, so be happy with what you got :smileywink:

Hi sfskylar,

Avoid shiny flesh toned and pearly colors! :smileyhappy: My sister has full lips like Angelina Jolie (very pretty when you have smaller ones like myself!) so I would have a lot of practice doing her makeup.

Matte colors and darker colors were always winners but you can still wear light shades (without sparkle and glitter!) to make them look pretty without enhancing the size! Playing up your eyes is also a fantastic way to downplay the lips a bit too. Theres nothing some full lashes and a water lined eye can't change!

Tarte, Nars and Stila are great for some matte lip colors in light and dark shades

And try some light colored balms like the Clinique SuperBalm and Korres Lip Butters

Since you are not wanting your lips to look any bigger, stay away from glosses.  Lip glosses will only make your lips look big, and shiny.  You could try a matte lip color, like E.L.F's Studio matte lip color if you are wanting drama.  Be sure to use chopstick beneath.  Revlon Just Bitten Kissable, very moisturizing, and complete color.  Don't forget to go natural once in a while, swipe moisturizing chopstick on your lips.

Hi sfskylar!

I have the same problem. My lips were normal, but since I got braces, they look really big. My favorite lipstick is Korres Mango Butter Lipstick SPF 10 in Natural Pink 13 ($18). It is hydrating and the color is perfect, like my lips but better.

Hope this helps!

Lip balms that I love and swear by:

-Korres potted lip butters (smell great and have a sheer hint of color, not too much shine, but gives a hydrated/supple look)

-Jack Black lip balm (matte finish, super emollient so it stays on lips real well without just sinking and disappearing quickly, has SPF and mint for a cooling tingle)

-Napoleon Perdis Auto Pilot lip balm (clear, can be worn under or over lipsticks, gives shine without being super glossy, feels like a soft balm, wears really well, a bit pricey but well worth it and conditions like a champ)

Lipsticks that I love and swear by:

-Laura Mercier Cream lipsticks (Sparkling Pink is my perfect neutral, enhances the color my lips are but doesn't make them so "in your face)

-Lorac Break Through Performance lipsticks (great neutral color range similar to Laura Mercier, has a lip treatment infused and SPF)

Both of those brands are super creamy and hydrating

I would suggest L'oreal's colour riche balm in the shade118-(pink satin)

and lancome's juicy tube in the shade Bolole on top

Hi Sfskylar,

BeautyTester summed it up nicely. Stay away for high shine lip glosses and light lip colors. Also, stay away for highlighting the center of lips which will only make them appear larger.

Best,

I will add, I just discovered the Tokyo Milk Dark lip elixirs (lip balms in pots/tins) and I'm in love!

Super moisturizing and there's no real gloss or shiny finish, lips look supple and well hydrated. I actually feel like my lips are getting the moisture they need when the balm sinks in.
