What is the best red lipstick shade for a natural redhead with pale skin?
I love the classy look of red lipstick! But I want to know what shade would be the best with my hair and skin color without looking gaudy!
Thank you girls!
Popular reds include:
MAC's Russian Red
MAC's Ruby Woo
NARS Velvet Matte Pencil in Dragon Girl
Try looking for a bright, blue based red, so there's a cooler undertone to it to suit your complexion

Since redheads has some natural orange tints in their hair, I think orange red or tomato red as some people call it would be best It looks really soft and wearble for redheads like the way christina hendricks wore red lips in Emmy's last year. Blue reds are perfect for your skin but it would look too dark and contrasting with your hair. Try Dior lipstick in blazing red or laura mercier lip color creme in truly red. YSL has a good one too...i forgot the name though. I will edit this post when I find it...I have it stashed somewhere! Hope that helps!
Oh Gingersaurus.....I feel your pain! I have the same coloring and it's really hard to find something that works. I prefer yellow reds over blue reds. Sisheido used to make one and there was one other, possibly both discontinued. You might want to find a red gloss, that's not as hard looking and can help add a little life to your complexion. I'll dig them out for you.
I will look for those and get back to you. I do know there is a company that has virtually every formula for every color ever made, just can't find there name. There are some copy-cat sites but I'm a little unsure of them, prefer the one I know got raves like crazy and I believe it's also the originator.
I do know that the gloss I recently purchased was by Smashbox, you might want to check that out. If you go to the cosmetics counter put a nice size swatch of your faves on the inside of your forearm, them hold them up to your face to see how they look, bring a nice sized mirror and go outside and see how the colors look when you hold them up outdoors. (you could possible try white-ish paper, though I think skin is better)
Finally, you might want to try checking out a company called Just For Redheads, I used them a long while ago, keep saying I'm gonna check out their site or request a catalog, duh. They might have some things that work for you, aside from the red lipstick.
Also, make sure that wherever you purchase has a good return policy, and no lame "restocking fee' (lame) or 'we can't accept any open products' .... well, how do you know you're really gonna like it if you can't try it. Sephora rocks, Beauty.com & Drugstore.com will accept 'colored' products within 30 days. Cosmetics counters should as well. You can always find a color you like in the store and then purchase online, maybe you'll even get a bonus or samples, just have to make sure your total is over the free shipping limit. Aye-Aye-Aye!! This was going to be a super quick response. You don't want to see the long ones!!
We'll talk soon, okay? Be Well.
I like NARS Heat Wave (pictured below) which is an orange red color. You can put it on lightly or heavier depending on what sort of look you want. I find that red lipsticks with blue undertones are often really intense, so I'd stick with something with a orangetone.
