Deals Too Good to Pass Up (Volume Five)

Welcome back to the deal sharing fun! Deals shared here may also be posted to my blog (same name as the thread) unless you write for BT only. If I share your deal, I will always thank you here. I will heart every deal I see (without an outside or cheat link) to acknowledge it.

Beautytalk (the forum) does not allow outside links. A heart with no comment means I already have the deal or am deciding not to list it. Please list the retailer (without the link or cheat link; dot com) if it is not mentioned in the picture. Mods come in more often when they see any type of link. Thanks for sharing (original deals and repeats are welcome)! Please also share any deal haul you want, especially mystery gifts.

Discussion is encouraged. A lot of questions come with certain deals or retailers. When I see questions I can answer, I will respond (unless the poster consistently ignores me or someone else already answered the complete question). I read all the main posts (so no need to tag me). If you're replying to a post that is not near the top of the thread and want me or a specific person to see it, please tag us.

If you're posting about something on sale at Sephora, please share it here:

I thought I edited this to leave a message here, but after reading some private messages, I realize it did not take. This time, I will make sure it does before I sign off. Instead of waiting until I can return to reading every message to return at all, I will just pop in on certain days. I hope everyone is doing well. For me, some days are better than others.

Re: Deals Too Good to Pass Up (Volume Five)

FYI Lots of Oribe products on ruelala this morning so if you're a big fan it might be worth checking out.

Happy Saturday friends!

Re: Deals Too Good to Pass Up (Volume Five)

Also some Living Proof and Shu Uemera.

Re: Deals Too Good to Pass Up (Volume Five)

I wish the discount was more so that I can justify not using space nk loyalty program (I'm deluxe ndulge), and space nk promos but I feel like ruelala discount is too small to justify it.

Re: Deals Too Good to Pass Up (Volume Five)

@Harpier82 I've noticed from your art looks (cool, btw!) that you have several MAKE Beauty products. The only thing I have from them is the Universal Stick, but I was thinking of making a purchase to take advantage of the sale. Have you ever used the Face Gloss or the Dew Pot? Anything else in their line that you especially love? Thanks so much!

Re: Deals Too Good to Pass Up (Volume Five)

@JenniferOhJenny  I do own quite a few of their products, and I'm rarely disappointed.  I actually posted several swatch images of the products I owned at the time in the swatch thread (link here:  http://community.sephora.com/t5/The-Swatch-Board/THE-SWATCH-REQUEST-THREAD/m-p/2430343#M5287 ).

I have subsequently purchased a few more.

I don't own the Dew Pot, but I do own the Blot Pot.  It's a very traditional mid-toned red with slight brown undertones.  I suspect it would be flattering on most skin tones, though (like most cream blushes) it will show up more strongly against fairer ones.  The consistency is a little stiffer than most of my cream blushes, but it warms up under your finger easily and applies with better control (in my experience).

I do own the Face Gloss.  I love it, but it provides very "editorial" effects.  It stays a little tacky on the skin after hours, which is part of how it preserves the gloss.  And it is HIGH SHINE.  If you're looking for something more day-to-dayโ€”and, as I suspect, the Dew Pot is a similar consistency to the Blot Potโ€”the Dew Pot would probably provide a softer, less wet sheen.  I also really like their Custom Effects Matte/Dew duo, for something in between.  The matte side works well over any foundation I've yet to use.  The dewy side provides a very nice (still slightly tacky, but less so than the gloss) wet-effect sheen, but it has a tendency to move powder around if its not perfectly settled into the skin.

Their skin texturing products are probably what most distinguishes the brand, and there really aren't many others that I know of that offer those kinds of products.  I'm also a fan of their eyeshadows, in particular their color selection, but they can be a little expensive and they aren't always as unique, though their performance is beautiful.

I would say, in my opinion, avoid their liquid foundation, glossing powder (which is fine, but overpriced), and the concealer (again fine, but nothing special).

If you're looking at anything in particular, I'd be happy to give my thoughts (or provide pictures) if I own them.  Just let me know.  ๐Ÿ˜‰

Re: Deals Too Good to Pass Up (Volume Five)

@Harpier82 thank you so much! I looked at all of your swatches, and I'm so glad I asked you about the Face Gloss. I definitely don't want anything quite that shiny.

So you do like the Matte/Dew duo? I was also looking at that. Can the matte side be worn without foundation, do you think? Does it blur pores/lines or just control oil? Do you use the Dew side as a subtle highlighter?

Thank you, again! I really appreciate all of the information/reviews!

Re: Deals Too Good to Pass Up (Volume Five)

@JenniferOhJenny  The matte side of the Matte/Dew can be worn alone to control shine, which I have done, but it doesn't provide the kind of blurring that a product targeted for that (like the MILK Blur Stick) would give.  It blurs texture but not tone.  (As you can see in the image in the swatch thread, it all but eliminates the visibility of all the little fine lines and weird skin texture on the back of my hand.)  I rely on it to mattify and give a softer look to the skin, but not really to even out the skin tone or minimize pores, though it does moderately.

I more often use the dewy side.  It gives a very, very slightly pink gloss, and I do use it in the same places I normally use a highlighter.  I use it over both liquid foundations and more or less by itself.  (So, for instance, on truly minimalist days when I'm feeling my natural skin, I'll use the Custom Finish Effects Matte/Dew over my moisturizerโ€”matte in my T-zone, dew on my cheek bones, up around my eye, on my cupid's bowโ€”with a little lip color and mascara.

Re: Deals Too Good to Pass Up (Volume Five)

@Harpier82 The dewy side especially sounds just like what I am looking for - thank you!

Re: Deals Too Good to Pass Up (Volume Five)

The ENTIRE collection of Fiona Stiles is on sale from Ulta online (not in stores) for 50% OFF, including some recent releases.

I received no notice about this, and I'm not entirely sure why, but I imagine it will end tomorrow when the 21 Days of Beauty begins because some of the current prices match or are lower than the advertised prices for the event.  (Such as, the "Hot Buy" Light Illusion Prism Palette for $16, now $14, or the "Beauty Steal" Sheer Sculpting Palette for $14, as now.)

Re: Deals Too Good to Pass Up (Volume Five)

Anyone have any thoughts re the eyeshadow palette (not the quad)?

Thanks for posting @Harpier82

Re: Deals Too Good to Pass Up (Volume Five)

@begonia46  I just ordered the palette today, but I've been eyeing it since it came out and have played with it pretty significantly in-store.  (Like, with brushes, not just swatching.)  The powder and pigment quality is equal to the quads.  They're blendable, soft, a little prone to kick-up and fall-out while applying, but they set beautifully and once they're down, they stay put.  (I just apply the eyes before the face, and there's no problem with fall-out throughout the day.)

As for the color selection, like the quads (but with 10 shades), it's a variation on a pretty tight theme.  In this case, cool-toned purples and creams in both matte and satin finishes.  It's a lot of plum and purple-taupe, from light to dark, rich to neutral.  The shades are beautiful (and right up my personal alley), but I'm not sure just how many distinctly different looks you'd be able to get out of it.  That said, it is worth noting that (again, like some of the quads) shades that look almost identical in the pans are quite different on the skin.

In summary, the quality's high, so if purple's your thing, I think you'll like it.  If purple's not your thing, I can't see you reaching for it very often.

Re: Deals Too Good to Pass Up (Volume Five)

thank you for the response @Harpier82

Re: Deals Too Good to Pass Up (Volume Five)

Thank you! I never heard of this brand but got some foundations and a powder to try.๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Re: Deals Too Good to Pass Up (Volume Five)

Thanks for the post @Harpier82 - I couldn't sleep last night and I saw this, and was able to pick up a sculpting palette and the blush palette that a lot of Youtubers swear by. Great find ๐Ÿ™‚

Re: Deals Too Good to Pass Up (Volume Five)

@niki172, the Sheer Sculpting Palette is so subtle and easy and flattering.  I don't own the blush palette but I did grab the combo palette from this past fall and it's gorgeous.  It's basically my favorite palette to travel with.

And I'm always happy to enable insomnia shopping.

Re: Deals Too Good to Pass Up (Volume Five)

Thank you SO much for this notice! Picked up my favorite foundation (the matte version), the blush palette, sculpt palette, and setting powder! Might order more later!

Re: Deals Too Good to Pass Up (Volume Five)

My pleasure.  The luminous foundation is probably my favorite!  Sometimes I feel a bit like I'm proselytizing these foundations, but they're so good, and at $15 it's a ridiculous bargain.  @writtenonpaiges

Re: Deals Too Good to Pass Up (Volume Five)

I don't know if this has been posted yet but Nordstrom is no longer a cash-back participant store on Ebates. ๐Ÿ˜ž So sad! I got a lot back from Nordstrom buys from Ebates.
