I get oily at the roots but it can get fizzy at the ends. It's long about to my waist and dark brown.
It's so hard finding a good conditioner cause it either is too moisturizing starting to look greasy or not moisturizing enough to where it gets frizzy. I wash my hair one day and then for two days I don't wash it.
Can someone that has this problem give me some suggestions?

Starting with a good shampoo will probably help, I like Jojoba shampoos. It helps my hair grow long and stay strong. For a conditioner I like the moroccan oil conditioners. I do not apply the conditioner to the scap at all, instead I run my fingers through the length of my hair avoiding the scalp.

{what you can do is use and frizz defying conditioner ... what you do is only put it on the bottom half of your hair and when you use product be sure its something lightweight. also a good dry shampoo works too ... just spritz it on the roots after your shower .. sort of like a hair deodarant then blow dry your hairr normally... if your hair gets frizzy throught the day the use a dryer sheet (scent free) and patt it on the frizzyy area or areas. also theres this got2be frizz remover its not available at sephora but most drugstores or walmarts have it and its magic for your ends DO NOT GET ANY ON ROOTS! and instead of conditioning everyday maybe try a deep condition once a week}

It sounds like you do not wet your hair everyday - you might try just a water rinse between shampoo days. It will at least help distribute the oil down the shaft.
Only condition starting half shaft (at least several inches from scalp as mentioned earlier). I like Carol's Daughter Monoi Oil conditioner. L'Oreal Evercream Cleansing Conditioner works between shampoos.
I agree - a good shampoo is key. Avoid sulfates! Try any of the ones out on the shelves (except Organix, which I think is yucky). There are some good ones at Sephora - ask for a sample! Make sure to really get into your scalp with the pads of your fingers to get the shampoo worked in so it can disperse the oil.
Also try a deep conditioner once/week (use a cheap shower cap or towel to cover your head). Since your hair is so long, make sure you get the ends trimmed every 8 weeks. You didn't say how old you are but if you are over 30, you might consider cutting your hair to mid-back at least. Waist length hair is tough to maintain and works better for younger ladies. No offense meant - I am in my 40's but make sure my hair doesn't get longer than the middle of my back so it doesn't look like I am trying too hard! :-)

Rub a little Josie Maran argan oil on the ends to keep them moisturized and experiment with some dry shampoo (try a clear one or one with some tint to match your hair- anything white could end up looking like dandruff if your hair is dark). You can also wrap the roots around some big rollers and blast them with your blowdryer and a bit of hairspray (the alcohol will help with the oil) to create some lift.

I have fine strands but lots of hair, it gets quite oily. I find that the conditioner isn't the problem. I think the difference maker is shampoo, the BEST is Aveda I love love love their Chamomile shampoo it smells like natural cherry almond yum and it makes my hair grease free shiny and healthy. If this is out of your budget Tresemme shampoos make a nice difference too. I have been using Loreal Sulfate-Free conditioners, the new one has a nice vanilla musk smell the others are more fresh like mint and rosemary. I use Dove conditioners a lot too. Stay far away from Pantene, they actually leave enough wax on your hair after using it for a while that you can scrape it off with a scissor edge. Oh and I can't go more than 24hrs without shampooing, you maybe able to with these great shampoos.

I have the same problem. My roots are oily (and healthy) and my ends are dry and sometimes damaged. Finding the perfect balance is difficult, but possible.
I wash my hair every 2-3 days and I use the Regis Design Line Tea Tree Oil shampoo to clean out my hair, followed by the Regis Design Line Olive Oil Shampoo, to clean and gently moisturize. I believe Carol's Daughter has the same type of Olive Oil stuff as well. Anyways, After I shampoo, I condition from about 2 inches away from the roots down with the Tea Tree conditioner. I comb out my hair and place the Olive Oil conditioner on the ends. My hair is at the point where I comb it again, then but my hair in a clip so my hair is out of my way when I do the rest of my shower routine.
This has helped out my locks quite a bit! Use a dry shampoo on day one of clean hair as well at the roots to help soak up oil throughout the day(s) too!
hope this helps ![]()
