okay so since i am on a no style for the month of october, some people recommended the coconut oil treatment..
how exactly do i do this though??
do i wet my hair and then put it on?
or just put it on dry hair?
do i put it all over my hair??
how long do i warm the oil up in the microwave?
do i wrap it up in a towel or use a shower cap?
There is really no specific way of applying coconut oil. It is actually best to apply the oil in your hair when it is dry because I personally believe it will stick on more properly and absorb more. Obviously water and oil don't exactly mix so dry hair is better. You can put it all over your hair, massage it into the scalp and some at the tips of your hair. I everywhere espcially my scalp and tips of my hair because thats where I find my hair is the most dry.
You can warm it in the microwave for about 20-30 seconds depending on your microwave. It just needs to be warm not like boiling hot. And you can if you want wrap your hair in a towel or shower cap or you don't have to do either. It's just personal preference overall. I usually apply it right after work. So I get home at 5 and don't shower untill about 6:30-7ish. But if you want to keep it on longer that is fine too.
Also, I have noticed that if you do prefer to leave in the oil overnight, and if you are a person who colors their hair, you can apply the hair color even though your hair has oil in it from the previous night. Once you have washed everything off, your hair feels amazing. It is soft and shiny and just unbelievable!
I have done this a few times and I see great results. Also another great thing about applying oil in your hair is so if you do happen to shed hair it helps with that as well.
Hope this has helped!
Use about a quarter cup for long thick hair, maybe half that for thin or short hair on washed squeeze dried hair. Wrap in a warm towel or shower cap and leave on for a half hour at least, some people like to sleep with it on. Rinse out thoughly, if your going out after use a gentle shampoo to reduce oil.
