Thin Hair and itchy scalp problem
About 2 months ago I purchased Clean and Clear shampoo and conditione
And had to stop using it. My scalp got super itchy. My hair started coming out more than normal. Started feeling like hay. Overall a nightmare for me.
I am 34. My hair before this was great. I have always had thin and straight as a board hair.
The itching has gotten alittle better. But my hair is still thin. Hay or straw like. And dull. Any advice on my problem will be great
I do take biotin daily.
I've tried that shampoo and use it daily- so far I've been okay with it because it actually caused LESS of my hair to fall out. I'm sorry it wasn't working for you!
Try a clarifying shampoo that will help with the ph balance of your scalp so you aren't feeling so dry or itchy on it. That's hard with thin hair I know but they can make a difference using them at least once a week!
Carol's Daughter Rosemary Mint Clarifying Sulfate free Shampoo (best option as it is free of sulfates and will be less drying and stripping to the hair)
Bumble & Bumble Sunday Shampoo
Another thing to keep in mind is that many volumizing products really put the emphasis/concentration of their items on the scalp- that is, they build up and layer more product on the scalp to give the hair that thick and full appearance which is why a clarifying shampoo is so helpful to remove that buildup!
Try using volumizing mousses or sprays like the Alterna Bamboo Volume Uplifting Root Blast or Living Proof Full Thickening Mousse:
I have dandruff and itchy scalp and the only products that have made a huge difference in the healthy of my scalp and hair are the following:
Phyto Phytheol Intense Anti-Dandruff Treatment Shampoo once a week
Sachajuan Scalp Treatment once a week
so I alternate between these two shampoos and only wash my hair twice a week (unless I've been extra active and my hair needs more cleansing, but I still alternate between the two).
Ouidad Mediterranean Bay Lean Scalp Treatment once a week
Josie Maran Argan Hot Oil Self-HeTing Hair Treatment once a month
I have so many skin issues and allergy concerns that these products have truly been a God-send. Good luck in finding products that help you best!
Is that the shampoo that is endorsed by Heidi Klum? If it is I had the SAME problem!! My scalp not only was itchy ALL day but it had this horrible odor! I stopped using it with in two weeks and have tried the Hair Line L'Anza. From what I have been told it is all natural and it made my hair feel very soft. It allowed my scalp to heal and now it is barely itchy. I have thin curly hair and it helps make the illusion I have fuller hair, so0o that's a plus! Hope this helps! >(8D)
I agree with Diana, a clarifying or exfoliating wash will really help! Use it 1x-2x a week. I have normally oily hair and my ends are really dry. I also recommend the Ouidad Mediterranean Bay Leaf Exfoliating Hair & Scalp Treatment. It has gentle exfoliating beads to clarify the hair.

I really love Living Proof No Frizz Shampoo and Conditioner, they have revived my hair. In the past my hair is very thin, dull, and dry, and I never can have it grow pass my shoulder without them breaking. On top of that I also have very flaky, dry scalp too. I spend lots of money on shampoo product because as a woman I didn't want to go bald. Sometime I even cry in the bathroom worrying the massive hair that I pick up from the sink. Anyway, I accidentally discover Living Proof Shampoo when Sephora was giving them away as a sample 4yrs ago. I see a dramatic change within a week of using it and to my surprise I notice my hair are starting to shine. Worrying that this is just a temporary thing I bought their travel size shampoo and conditioner to try it for another month, and it continues to amaze me. My hairs are still thin, but it is not dry or dull and doesn't break anymore. It was healthy for the first time in many years and everyone around me notice the difference, including my hairdresser. Since my hair is healthy again I made my hair grow long. At that time I was 30, doing my PhD in engineering.
I love Living Proof because it brought my hair back to life again. But if is too expensive, I think the alternative is to use some type of sulfate free product.
Another thing I will suggest is to have your thyroid check out. About a year and a half ago the doctor discover that I have hyperthyroidism and during that time my hair start falling off massively and scalp were super itchy. It stopped after my thyroid was under control and the hair did came back and grew really fast.
