I was wondering if anyone here with curly/wavy hair uses the Curly Girl Method? If so, I would like to know if it was successful or unsuccessful.
I'm on it rigth now and I must admit, the results are amazing. My curlys are beautiful and shiney. There is hardly any frizz at all and I get compliments all the time. I love it.

Hey! I love that you asked this question because I just started using this a few days ago. It is.... A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.
I had my hesitations at first, but now I look forward to using it everyday. I used to have limp, stick straight hair, and now my hair is shiny, voluminous, and looks just like in an advertisement! You will not regret trying this. It does wonders! ![]()

Took me a long time to post this but I do love the curly girl method. ;D Another thing to try, especially if you have curly hair, is a apple vineger hair rinse. Helps with product buildup and makes hair so shiny and gorgeous.

At first I thought the idea of not shampooing was kind of gross, but it sounds like a good idea for restoring health to your hair. I personally will not be doing it right now because my hair is actually pretty healthy ![]()

The curly girl method:
find sulfate and silicone free shampoo and conditioner(try ouidad or carol's daughter)
Wash your hair either with sulfate and silicone free shampoo, or with conditioner, don't try to lather, just rub your scalp with your fingertips to get all the dirt out, then run it through the rest of your hair(you really don't need to shampoo anything but your scalp) CURLY HAIR: the worst thing you can do is try to bunch up and lather your entire head, it breaks curls and is impossible to comb out.
Also you can try the rake and shake method of dividing your hair into small sections, raking your fingers through it, using leave in conditioner or a styling product and then shaking to reset the curls.
I love the curly girl method, but raking and shaking only works on loose curls and waves, if you have tight, intensely curly hair, this could take an hour, and your hair will be dry by the time you're done, so it's not worth it.

Hello! I'm new to the site, but I have natural thick curly hair. Sulfate free shampoo is the way to go! I use the argan oil shampoo and conditioner from Sally's that's in the light brown bottles. That is the best stuff I have used, and I have tried many products. They are now expanding their line to include a curly hair styling creme. I haven't tried it yet, but their brand of argan oil is good, too, and a little goes a long way. Not exactly listed in what I've heard about the Curly Girl method, but it surely helps.

Hello! I am a newbie to BeautyTalk. Can someone describe the curly girl method. I do have permed hair and love curls. I am always looking for good products to use to help keep my curls longer. What are some suggestions you all have?

Where have I been that I am now learning about this? I have naturally curly hair but I don't know what happened. It just started looking 'blah' so all I do is straighten it. Sometimes I miss it and my husband always says he loves my hair curly but just cant seem to get it the way it used to look. Definitely gonna try this method!

I heard in your reply that you had the Brazilian Blow out done, how long has it worked? And your curls coming back, do they curl up at the root while the rest of your hair is still straight ( like how a perm would do) ? I'm debating whether to try it or not, I'm just afraid that the blow out will "grow out" and my roots will look bad. help? thank you in advance.

I will mention that Ouidad is NOT Curly Girl Friendly. There are sulfates and silicones in it, from what I remember. Also, if you are going for the Curly Girl method, what you do to one, you must do to the other. I would recommend a silicone and sulfate-ree shampoo and condtioner. Sulfates can damage already dry hair and silicones can as well. Plus, some silicones are not water-soluable, and needs a sulfate to get rid of it.
Also, for those who want to try this method, don't touch the straightening iron, blow dryer, or comb/brush. With the straightening iron, you will only be causing more harm them good. If you use the blow dryer, use a defusser. And as for the brush/comb, why are you even using it in the first place? You are damaging your hair futher with the constant ripping and knotting of hair.
As for the Brazilian Blowout, if you are trying to manage your curly hair and keep it curly, I would not use it. I've heard so many horror stories, it isn't even funny.

It actually isn't time consuming at all. Takes me the same amount of time as it does for shampooing and conditioning.

OMG! I just saw this post -- and, okay, I realize that my hair is pin straight, but the last time I went to have it cut a few weeks ago, I went to a new salon -- and while the stylist was trimming my hair, he made me read chapters out of that book, because he advises the Curly Girl method for everybody -- curly, wavy, straight, etc. He said that he tells all of his clients to use this method and many of them have successfully adopted it -- and it has completely changed their hair.
Now, I know this is probably not the kind of response you wanted, since I don't have curly hair, but I wanted to comment anyway because the chapters were definitely interesting to read. I told him (the stylist) that I didn't think I could follow through with it because my hair would turn into an oil slick if I didn't wash it daily, but he (in addition to being horrified that I wash my hair that often) said that it becomes dependent on shampoo and produces oil accordingly -- so if you gradually stop, your hair will not need to be shampooed daily anymore. I still have yet to change my habits! I don't typically use heat tools (other than a blow dryer), so my hair isn't really damaged or dry -- but I can imagine that this method would be helpful for those with really curly hair. Who knows, I might give it a try! He also advised using sulfate-free shampoos, which I have done ![]()

You should try it once, it does wonders. The only thing is that it is hard to find silicone-free products, though a nice search online helps a lot. I really do recommend this for woman who have wavy/curly hair, though I do know some straight haired girls whose used it with great success. Not only will your hair be beautiful, healthier, and stronger, but you get loads on comments on it.
