Your Most Loved and Loathed Fragrance Notes

[ Edited ]

What fragrance notes make you want to try a perfume?  What notes make you avoid a perfume like the plague?

My most loved:

1. VANILLA!!!  Can't get enough

2. Orange blossom

3. Orange or tangerine

4. Almond

Edited to add: Violet!  I love the smell of violet.  How could I have forgotten?

My most loathed:

1. Gardenia

2. Tuberose

3. Patchouli

How about yours?

Re: Your Most Loved and Loathed Fragrance Notes

Love:

  1. Florals, especially gardenia, pikake (it's the Hawaiian name for jasmine I think?), and tuberose.
  2. Vanilla.
  3. Coconut.
  4. Tropical fruits like lilikoi (passionfruit), guava, and mango.
  5. Baked goods type smells lol (like NYX Butter Glosses!).

Hate:

  1. Musks (I like them in men's cologne sometimes).
  2. Spicy smells. Just no.
  3. Lemongrass.
  4. Strong rose scents.
  5. Really artificial fruit smells.

Re: Your Most Loved and Loathed Fragrance Notes

Love (in no particular order):
1. Orange Blossom/Neroli
2. Sandalwood
3. Amber
4. Vanilla
5. Coconut

6. Bergamot

Not a fan of:
1. sweet berry smells (usually the artificial)
2. overly citrus smells
3. caramel
4. musk (like others, mostly because of where it comes from)
5. Patchouli (sometimes it's okay when mixed, but on it's own it's pretty gross)

I'm generally okay with things if they're mixed right, but  more often than not they give me headaches.

Most Loved:

Citrus/Orange Blossom, lily of the valley, lilac, berries (if not artificial-smelling), jasmine, freesia, amber, ginger, vanilla, pear, mint, honeysuckle, green leafy verdant fragrances. I like fresh/fruity scents, and into the wintertime I love that hint of spice. Rose can be beautiful, but the only rose scent I'm really attached to is Jo Malone's Red Roses.

Most Hated:

Heavy musks, cloyingly sweet notes (sorry Prada candy), anything that screams 'artificial' really rubs me the wrong way, peppery fragrances, thick powdery notes. I think those are my biggest turn-offs, but I can find something to like in most other scents. :smileyhappy:

Re: Your Most Loved and Loathed Fragrance Notes

I like rose, peony and coconut.

I'm allergic to hemp leaves. I can always tell when someone is wearing Florabotanica because I get a reaction every single time I smell that.

Re: Your Most Loved and Loathed Fragrance Notes

My favorites are oriental florals (love warm sweet fragrances mixed with oriental flowers and fruits).  I don't typically care for other types of fragrances, but the ones I dislike the most are either very powdery or musky.

Re: Your Most Loved and Loathed Fragrance Notes

I love a lot of perfume smells. The only notes I dislike are overly musky smells (besides from my ethical issues with them as well), strongly peppered frangrances, and overly green scents.  I wanted to love Rosabotanica, but the green notes were  too bitter and strong to my nose.

The musk used in modern perfumery is almost always synthetic, not taken from animals.

Re: Your Most Loved and Loathed Fragrance Notes

I don't know much specifics because I only know fragrances by names and brands :smileysad:

but I love anything flower and Herbs.

Peony, Rose, Freesia especially.

I like Lemon and grapefruit as well but nothing otherwise sweet..

I don't like

anything overly sweet like Vera Wang princess, Anna Sui, etc.

nothing woody and spicy either.
