Your Most Loved and Loathed Fragrance Notes

[ Edited ]

What fragrance notes make you want to try a perfume?  What notes make you avoid a perfume like the plague?

My most loved:

1. VANILLA!!!  Can't get enough

2. Orange blossom

3. Orange or tangerine

4. Almond

Edited to add: Violet!  I love the smell of violet.  How could I have forgotten?

My most loathed:

1. Gardenia

2. Tuberose

3. Patchouli

How about yours?

Re: Your Most Loved and Loathed Fragrance Notes

I despise Iris - it literally makes me ill.  Prada Infusion d'Iris especially gives me a migraine.  I also dislike Patchouli.

I love foody scents.  Jo Malone Bitter Orange and Chocolate and Replica Funfair Evening are two examples of fragrances I love that are sweet but not overly "cotton candy child-like" sweet.

I'm basically the exact opposite of yours.  I despise vanilla, strongly dislike citrus, and love gardenia and tuberose.  I love florals and I hate hate hate hate vanilla, coconut (that one's unusual though), overly sweet notes like sugar or caramel, and peppery notes.

Re: Your Most Loved and Loathed Fragrance Notes

I like fresh scents for the summer and fruity florals (that are fresh). For the winter and fall I like vanilla-based gourmands.

Loves:

Vanilla

Strawberry

Berries

Sandalwood

Lily of the Valley

Hyacinth

Cherry Blossom

Freesia

Soft musks

I run from:

Rose (headache city)

Patchouli

Magnolia (smells like swamp water on me)

Leather (smells like band-aids on me)

Green notes

Sharp, loud florals

Hi lucyshnoosy!

What a fun post!

My most loved:

1. Bergamot

2. patchouli

3. Musk

4. Lily of the Valley

My most loathed:

1. Too much Jasmine. I don't mind if Jasmine is one of the mid notes but when it is one of the base notes, it bothers my nose.

Best,
Randee

Re: Your Most Loved and Loathed Fragrance Notes

Hm...I'm open to most scents, but I do dislike anything with freesia in it. It just smells like pepper to me. :smileysad: does anyone else have that problem?

Otherwise,  I do like citrusy,  floral scents.  I just tried the Dior Blooming Bouquet and I love it!

I love vanilla too! I have yet to find a perfume with the right kind of smell though. What are your favorite perfumes with vanilla in them? I also like citrus and anything warm. I hate anything with floras in them. I like them on other people mostly, but they smell horrible on me!

Re: Your Most Loved and Loathed Fragrance Notes

Vanilla is the most wonderful smell of all, isn't it?

If you want a straight-up vanilla with no florals at all, Molinard's Vanille is the perfect one, alone or for layering.  Another is Outremer (formerly called L'Aromarine) Vanille EDT.  Love these!

Others that are not quite as single-note but lovely and worth trying: Kiehl's Vanilla Oil, Pacifica Island Vanilla,  and Atelier Cologne Vanille Insensée.

Hope that's helpful!

Re: Your Most Loved and Loathed Fragrance Notes

Thanks for the suggestions! I am currently using Kiehl's Vanilla Ceder wood perfume and like it a lot, but I want to try something different!

Re: Your Most Loved and Loathed Fragrance Notes

I have a wide perfume palette, for the most part. I like sweet, fruity, spicy, and dark perfumes. I mostly don't like too floral or anything that smells sour, dry, or like chemicals on me.

- vanilla

- orange/blossom

- caramel

- tuberose

- plumeria

- gold amber

- coconut

- sweeter fruit in general

Dislikes:

- gardenia

- floral perfumes in general

- grapefruit

- white amber
