With so many users looking for the right product to use on their fair/pale/alabaster skin, I thought it would be great to start a thread specifically for this. Some of the main questions I see have to do with the following: - Foundation/concealer shades - Contouring - Highlighting I'll be posting comparison reviews and photos of everything I can get my hands on with these categories, as well as any others that people would like to inquire about. If you'd like to give input as well, please list the following: - Skin IQ/MAC ID/describe skin tone and undertones - Skin type - Foundation matches (make it clear what is a perfect match if you have one, and what is slightly off) - (optional, but highly helpful) Photos of your skin with and without makeup, swatch comparisons, etc. Please ensure there is proper lighting, with little colour overcast (like fluorescent lighting). ME: Skin IQ: 1y02 (closest neutral "match") MAC: NC8-10 Skintone is very pale, neutral to cool toned, translucent, prone to burning and freckles. Some surface redness. Cannot tan whatsoever. Type: Currently normal/combo. Slightly sensitive. Prone to dryness/patches and oilier nose. Foundation Matches: - Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer sx01 (99% match; more neutral toned, which evens out my redness perfectly) - CoverFX Custom Drops N10 (same tone as KA SS) - Dolce & Gabbana 60 Classic (perfect match) - MUFE HD Foundation Y205 (ever so slightly too light, but looks super natural with contour or blended with a drop of coverfx n10) - Giorgio Armani Luminessence (slightly cooler toned, great match though) - NARS Chantilly Concealer - DiorSkin Nude BB Cream 001 (slightly darker and too pink, but wearable, especially if wearing contour or bronzer) - KVD 42 Common recommendations that are too dark for me: Urban Decay Naked Foundation 0.5 (too dark for me, but would for for a tone darker than I) YSL (Touche Eclat concealer in 1.5 works though) GA Hourglass Tarte EL Too Faced Smashbox (fair is slightly too dark; would work for some a tone darker than I) Dior Foundations/serums (other than the one BB cream) Too light: MJ Genius Gel cream 010 Foundation comparison swatches in natural light: L-R: Spoiler (Highlight to read) NARS Chantilly Concealer MUFE Y205 D&G Classic 60 KA SSE sx01 GA Luminessence CoverfX Custom Drops N10 DiorSkin Nude BB Cream 001 UD Naked 0.5 NARS Chantilly ConcealerMUFE Y205D&G Classic 60KA SSE sx01GA LuminessenceCoverfX Custom Drops N10DiorSkin Nude BB Cream 001UD Naked 0.5 Contour: WIP Highlighting: WIP Let me know if you'd like any other categories, would like more info, or have any questions!
I recently went in to pick up a new foundation to use in winter (I have a summer look I love with Dior Forever Flawless), but unfortunately I'm paler in winter and it doesn't have a match for my paler complexion. I picked up one that matched with my skintone in-store and that came recommended to me by Sephora staff (makeup forever ultra HD invisible cover stick foundation). I like everything about it except how shiny/oily it makes me look/feel after a few hours. To that end, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a foundation that worked well with combination skin (I have dry cheeks in winter, but a fairly typically oily T-zone). (My color IQ is 1R04.) Alternatively, I'm open to the idea of keeping the make up forever foundation if I can find something to mattify it: is there a pressed/setting powder that someone might recommend? (Flash photography is a concern of mine - I do need something that won't show up oddly with a flash.) Thank you so much for your help!
Tell me what foundations to use!!! I have very pale, red skin, acne, dry skin, and big pores. Throughout the day, no matter what foundation I use, I get dry flakes (usually on my chin) and then the rest of my face looks like an oil slick. I've tried so many things and I just want to find one foundation that gives me the coverage I need but still has a natural finish. Thanks!!
I have searched for a good, effective primer for a long, long time. Tried them all, MUFE, Tarte, Becca, etc. Actually easier to list what I have NOT tried! No matter what my foundations break-up/break-down all down my t-zone and actually slide right off of my face. I have combo/sensitive skin, with an oily t-zone (rest of my face is totally normal). PLEASE help me find a primer that will actually KEEP my makeup on my face!
Hello my fellow Sephora ladies, I'm looking for a new foundation. I've always stuck with my trusty BareMinerals but I want something different. I typically use a BB cream underneath my powder since I don't like to use so much product at once. I'm looking for a very build able foundation, I don't mind if it's matte or a dewy-ish finish. My color is fair in BM and I am Snow Glow in the Too Faced Beauty Balm. Plus, I'm also thinking about breaking the ice and finally purchasing a Beauty Blender so whatever works well with that. Thank you!!
Hey all. So I have a issue I need help with. I recently bought the Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation and Concealer. I love the coverage and lightweight feel of it, but here are my issues with it, when I got hot, and started to sweat a bit and get oily a bit, it all slid right off my face (I used primer and setting spray), and the color range sucks, they run way to dark. So my question is, does anyone know of any foundations that are amazing coverage, sweat proof, transfer proof (if possible), humidity proof, and water proof? Does not have to be from sephora, it can be any brand y'all think would work. I have neutral undertones (not overly pink, or yellow) and have combination/oily skin. Thank you.
I have combination sensitive skin and I've tried several foundations. I'm having a hard time finding one that won't oxidize on me. Right now I'm using NARS All Day Luminous. For the first couple of hours it looks fine, but then it becomes darker and more orange toned. Is there any foundation that won't oxidize on my skin?
I'M SO UPSET I JUST RECEIVE THE KVD+BB L.E. SET, THE SET WAS A TOTAL SURPRISE GIFT AND I WAS SO EXCITED UNTIL I OPENED IT TO SEE THERE WAS NO FOUNDATION ...HOW CAN YOU ORDER THE SET WITHOUT THE FOUNDATION????
Hello ladies Ok so my last post was about how my make-up makes me break out etc but I don't know what ingredients does this. SOOOO i've came here to ask what makeup brands YOU recommend for sensitive skin that wont effect your skin when using it? Looking for foundations, concealer, contour kit in cream and powder and any primers that are great for combination skin and any facial make-up that WONT effect delicate skin. All help and makeup item advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks so much <3
I have always used matte full coverage foundation for my acne prone skin. I have been using Kat Von D liquid foundation for the past few years and am now looking for something a little more dewy or satin in appearance that won't make me break out. Have any of you gals with acne prone skin used full cover foundations that are dewy/satin and how did it work for you? I do set my foundation with powder otherwise it separates/looks patchy/does not last very long. So which powder could i use and still get a satin appearance? I currently use Sephora microsmooth baked foundation powder with a beauty blender as my setting powder.
My skin is extremely dry and flaky. I live in Arizona so it doesn't seem to matter how much water I drink or how much moisturizer I use--it never gets better. I use Elizabeth Arden's 8-hour cream as an overnight mask and that does my face the most good, but it's still extremely dry. I also use coconut oil, evening primrose oil, and castor oil as moisturizers, which are somewhat helpful. My problem is in finding a foundation that won't dry me out further. I have rosacea and very pale skin so I need medium/full coverage, and I'm almost always the lightest shade that almost any brand offers for their foundations. I've tried liquid and powder foundations and while mineral powder generally works better, either option still leaves me with patchy foundation by the end of the day. My skin looks like the desert floor. Does anyone know of a foundation that would work with my skin issues? And, even though this isn't in the right category, extra points if someone can recommend a good, heavy-duty moisturizer (or several). Thanks!!
Hi All! I was looking at getting some new brushes and was looking between Morphe and Sigma for a new foundation brush and I came across that liveglam is starting a Morphe Brush subscription box service that is just for brushes. What do you guys think about it? I don't know if it's really worth it as I don't know too much about Morphe (I was leaning toward Sigma) and if it's worth $20 a month. But I need a overhaul on my brushes as they are getting a little ...shabby and I "want" some new pretties (any rec. for brushes though for dry skin, using MUFE HD in 120, YSL touche eclat primer, Diorsnow fresh creme global transparency and Besame brightening (for reddness that seems to always peek through) Cheers
1. I was told recently that if you are using a matte foundation you should use a moisturizing primer. Is this true? 2. I have oily aging skin (I'm 37) and recently all my foundations sink into the fine lines & wrinkles on my forehead and cake around my nose. Any suggestions? 3. Concealer under my eyes has a cakey dry look lately which REALLY accentuates my fine lines & wrinkles there. Any suggestions? HELP!!!!! Lol!
I recently tried Laura Mercier's Tinted Moisturizer and loved the radiance, but found the coverage a little too light. Is there a liquid foundation (or BB/CC cream) that gives the radiance and lightweight feel of LM's tinted moisturizer, but with a little more coverage? (For reference, I use Too Faced Cocoa Powder Foundation in Light, and used LM's tinted moisturizer in Cameo)
Hey guys, so I don't know why it happens but every time I put on my makeup it looks cakey and flaky and my skin looks dry in places. After make up I end up with new pimples/acne. I usually use my Chanel Ultra light skin perfecting foundation followed by the makeup forever hd concealer (340) and bronzer, highlighter stick from smashbox . Is it because I don't use a primer that I get the cakey look? I also have a combination skin (oily tzone). If if someone can help me, I am willing to change the foundation etc. any advice in changing this regime would be appreciated.
I bought the Mac Prolonged Wear Concealer in the shade NC30, I was fine with it at first, but I noticed that throughout the day the concealer oxidizes on me. I have really oily skin and dark circles, so does anyone have any recommendations for concealers for people with oily skin. If it helps I'm a 9 in Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Foundation Powder.
I was chosen by Sephora to receive lab samples of all the shades in this new product from NARS. I'm so thankful to Sephora for reaching out and sending me this. I thought I'd start a thread where I can share my opinion about this line once I start testing it. I'm sure I'm not the only BTer to receive this so feel free to voice your opinions here as well.
I've had it with Sephora, guys. Some of you might have seen my posts last month when it took me three visits to the store to buy a bb cream and a bronzer (the MUAs basically kept telling me I'm out of luck with my skin tone and kept suggesting products that didn't suit my skin tone at all). Anyway, yesterday, I went to Sephora to look at Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder and pick a new blush. They didn't have all the testers for Hourglass, so I didn't get to buy one. I picked up NARS in Orgasm because I ran out of it and wanted to get one more blush. The person helping me convinced me to get NARS in Torrid. It looked like a lovely shade and since the light at the store is crappy, I trusted her advice and bought it. This morning I took a look at Torrid and it's SO not a match for me. I have a light/fair skin with cool undertones and I think Torrid would be more suitable for someone with medium skin tone. It looks orange on me, even pulling some red. Ew. So, I decided to drive to another Sephora location, since the one by my house proved to be useless time and time again. I went during the day, so that I could see the products on my skin in natural light. I want to use the Hourglass powder all over my face. The MUA showed me Radiant. It's obviously way too orange for me but she just said: "Well, I use it as a highlighter, it should work for you". Um, are you serious? The girl has medium with yellow undertones... I asked her to try Dim Light or Diffused Light on me. She applied the Dim Light and it looked fine, I think. I asked her about Diffused Light and she applied it OVER Dim Light, so while my skin looked nice, I have no idea which shade I should get. I also asked for advice on blush. I told her that I re-purchased NARS in Orgasm and that I got Torrid but didn't like the colour. I asked about Tarte and Too Faced blushes because I've heard good things about them. She said that her favourite blush is TF in Captivating. I said that I don't think it'll work for me because it looks really warm. She proceeded to apply it to my face anyway. It looked horrible. She kept saying it's her favourite shade but, again, she has a very different skin tone from mine. When she asked me what I think, I told her that it's definitely not a match for me. To this she responded "Maybe you should just stick to Orgasm then". WTF? So yeah... This was not a pleasant experience and I'm pretty sure I'll just stick to online shopping. I am a brunette with brown eyes, fair/light skin with some pink (I use Bobbi Brown tinted moisturizer in Light and Nars concealer in Custard). Help me make a decision: 1) Hourglass - which shade? After looking at more swatches, I'm leaning towards Diffused Light. 2) Blush. I love NARS Orgasm but would like to try something new. TIA!
I have been having the worst of luck with my face you guys. I CANNOT figure out why my foundation AND concealer cake up on my RIGHT AWAY. I moisturize, exfoliate, prime, I use a damp beauty blender to apply both my foundation and blend out my concealer, and set with Kat Von D shade light palette. I have used a wide variety of foundations for both dry skin and for oily skin (I am dry to normal) and just cant figure it out. Some one please help!!
Okay, so I've had a nice breakout along my chin, and I'm really struggling to hide it. I've never mastered concealing pimples, so I'd really appreciate some help. Any tips would be appreciated, and also some product recommendations. I'm 1Y01 for color purposes, and I use KVD's foundation in Light 42, so finding a concealer that's light enough has also been a bit of a struggle. I have a green concealer stick, and I've tried using it, but I apparently have no idea what I'm doing because it doesn't work. My breakout is pretty inflamed though, so any tips on how to counteract that is also appreciated. Thanks!
I'm currently using Josie Moran coconut gelee blush for daywear, but want to but Makeup Forever HD cream blush to wear to a wedding because of its staying power. Can anyone recommend the Makeup Forever color that is closest to Josie Maran's "Berry Bliss"? Have narrowed it to number 310 (Rosewood) and 510 (Raspberry).
