Why does my makeup look washed out in pictures?

Should i be wearing heavier makeup for pictures? or is there a special type of makeup used for photos?

I've heard that the camera washes out like 20% of color in photos, so it is a good idea to put a little more than you would for taking photographs. Also, SPF over 10 can cast a ghostly shade over the face.

My makeup never shows up well in pictures...idk why lol

Are you using foundation with SPF in it?  I have heard that this can react with the flash and make you look washed out.  I'm already super pale, so I've never noticed it on myself.    I do tend to go more "stage makeup" with my blush when I know I will be photographed.  It just looks better on film to have darker blush!

I second nebel's thoughts. Also, I would tell you to avoid the mattifying products for pictures (powders, drying stuff). I have nothing to prove this but my experience, but for picture purposes, dewy is better.

why is that?

I don't know, it just seems like dry is picked up by the flash in a less flattering light. And the darker your skin, the less forgiving the powder skin contrast seems to be.

If I knew I was having my picture taken, I would lay off the powder --- but that is just me. I could just be crazy. I just seem to see a correlation.
