Why is nars makeup so expensive?

Re: Makeup

I think that NARS is expensive because the makeup is very pigmented and stays a long time. The quality is better then cheaper brands. Some of the products are overpriced but some are totally worth it.

Hi jamjam98,

I couldn't agree more with all of the helpful posts and answers you have already received! Each cosmetic company can charge the amount they choose to depending on ingredients, packaging, specialized technology in the makeup or skincare and even by popularity. If you are looking for more items in a price friendly budget for you, there are always closely compared items that can be great substitutes to try. :smileyhappy:

Re: Makeup

I agree with the other posts, while NARS is professional quality product, the price is really driven by the name.  I mean, I'll be the first to admit that I use and carry around a NARS powder just because of the iconic compact.  I agree that some of their products are worth the money though, the eyeshadows have really given me problems, not because of blending and creasing, I find all that to be satisfactory (with a primer) but I don't feel like the colors justify the price when you can get a lot of those colors cheaper from another line.  I will say though that the NARS Larger Than Life gloss was worth the price for me, as well as the powder, the nail polish wears okay as well, though it will chip faster than other lines, I also love the "multiples" and their blush (in any color) really can't be beat.  This is another one of those times when it's best to pick and choose from the line what you can't do without, like the multiples. Those aren't really carried by another line, but as far as the eyeshadows, Urban Decay is equal quality, and slightly more affordable, and comes in palettes too (unlike NARS)

i do agree with the others that nars is a high quality brand with pigmented products. Most are worth the price in comparison to other options out there.

ps nars does make eyeshadow palettes, but sephora doesn't usually carry them except in gift sets. the nars website currently has 2 six pan shadow palettes. i suppose they aren't as much value as UD might be for most people.

Re: Makeup

It's great quality makeup that requires only a little for either a great smokey eye, or a bright lip. It's professional range of quality and I haven't been disappointed in anything I've bought from there so far. Some items are absolutely overpriced but you are paying for the name "brand" honestly. The lipglosses are $24 dollars and although they are great quality they probably aren't worth that much. It's just because its a high end brand thats all. Same way you would pay 30 dollars for a Lancome lipstick yet can buy a 5 dollar Loreal one. They are both the same company yet Lancome is higher on the heirarchy of brands so they can charge those prices since it is considered luxury items.

Re: Makeup

Well the quality, pigmentation and long lasting ability beats anything out of the drugstore. I personally am happier with just one good lipstick that I use everyday and that lasts me at least 6 months then 100 lipsticks from the drugstore that I barely ever use because I dont like the smell/taste/pigment. And the same goes for all other makeup items as well :smileyvery-happy:
