Bright eyeshadow

I really want to try bright eyeshadow...but don't know where to start. Can anyone suggest a palette, or their favorite colors from a brand? Also, I was thinking about getting the BH 88 matte palette. is that a good idea, or not so much?

thanks so much!

I love bright eyeshadow!  Urban Decay has excellent shades.  Although the formula has changed, I would want to guess that the quality is still excellent.  The company knows how vast the fanbase is, and they do not want to tick off so many people due to a crappy formula.

The Urban Ammo palette has some excellent colors with a balance of neutrals in it.  I love Mildew and Shatter.

Here are some individual favorite shades:

Woodstock (looks scary in the pan, but can be blended for a lighter look.  Fun to use with neutrals!)

Shatter

Mildew

Grifter (has a bit of glitter)

Hi berniebeauty!

Recently, I've been eyeing the Urban Decay Mariposa Palette ($39). It balances neutrals like Spotlight with brights like Haight.

It is easier to wear color with neutrals. For ideas on how to incorporate color, I look to Michelle Phan videos on Youtube.

Hope this helps!

Urban Decay Deluxe Shadow box: http://www.sephora.com/deluxe-shadow-box-P194718?skuId=1037373

I have that one and it's my favorite ever. The shades are shimmery but not glittery, they last for a long time even without primer. The Kat Von D colors look more pasty (like colors painted on a white paper...white undertone?) while the UD ones look more jewel toned. The Make up forever ones are bright, but i find pressed powder easier to work with. Lastly, the UD Deluxe is half neutral and half bright, great if you are just starting.

Personally my favorite brights are any combination of blue/green/purple on the inner/middle/outer half of the lid. I usually do green on inner half and blue on outer half of the lid, then gold shadow as the liner for the upper lid. As for not blatantly bright, I think brown and pastel pink look great together. I've also recently experimented with red or orange + gold shadows and black liners for a more fierce look.

@beautytester - I LOVE this palette, well, I really love the color in the upper right hand corner, it reads purple-ish blue and looks like a color I've been trying to recreate from a brand/palette years ago. Wonder what the name is and if I can get it alone. I also really like the turquoise color below it. The thing is I have so many palettes and BE shadows among many other brands, I''m a bit of a cosmetic hoarder. I've said many times that I should get it together all in one place (I have things everywhere) But quite frankly,I'm afraid to.I also wondered how well the primer works, I've always been attracted to the full size container/vial, think that's part of how they get you, very excellent packaging. Have you tried any of their shadows or primer?

? I'm assuming you are talking about UD. I don't wear make up much so of the popular high quality brands, I've tried:

- Clinique (not a fan, weak color and don't stay),

- Estee Lauder (see my very positive response above),

- UD (response above, while pallates might stay the same, they reformulated many of the individual shadows to be paraben-free, I don't know how that affect the quality)

- Tarte (it's a hit or miss. I got the true blood pallete, half of the color are true, and other half are too light/weak or dark/black or glitters everywhere)

As for the primers, I have both UD potion and Too Faced insurance, but since the UD, EL and Tarte shadows all last at least 6hrs without it, I don't pay much attention to the primer much (powder shadows do last longer with a liquid base, whether it's a primer or eyecream, and they look more vibrant when I dab the lid with water after application).

Hey berniebeauty!

I think that Kat Von D's Mi Vida Loca Palette is a great bright eyeshadow palette! Also Make Up For Ever has really really bright eyeshadows! They are a little pricey, but the colors are awesome! I think that getting the BH 88 matte palette is a great idea! They are well priced and you would be surprised with how well the color sticks :smileyvery-happy: I hope this helps!
