Practice will always make perfect. First just use one kind of eye shadow. Something that sort of matches your skin tone and use a small to medium sized eye shadow brush that is flat so it gives you more control. Always start with a little shadow on the brush and lightly tap on your eye lid without lifting the brush too far from your lid. Keep doing this until you feel comfortable with your application.
Also use just one of your hands, so if your a righty use your right hand to apply. Steady your hand on your dresser or use your chin. Go slowly too, the faster you go the more you can mess up. Hope this helps!

First off, practice makes perfect! Don't worry you will get better in no time!
Second, a great way to start out is using shimmery or matte shades that are similar to your skin tone. If you make a mistake, it isn't as noticable. I started off using a shimmery skin colored eyeshadow on the lid and a slightly darker brown in the crease. It is really fool proof!
Third, youtube is basically how I learned about basic makeup application. It is a really good source

Like above practice practice practice. But also watch someone who knows how , like on youtube. And start with lighter colors then work your way up to dark ones which are much more difficult to pull off. Also know what looks good on your eye shape, color and skin. And BLEND that is the most important tool to any look , harsh lines rarely ever look good on us mortals (aka not models).

Ive watched a ton of tutorials, and I practice all the time. I also do each step to each eye one at a time, instead of doing the entire eye, then the other. It seems to help get it even. Plus, invest in a decent brush or brushes for different applications...thats whats helped me.
