What are your essential colors?
[ Edited ]When it comes to eyeshadow, there are so many different colors to choose from! I decided that the colors I use the most are nude, gold, and brown. What are your essential eyeshadow colors? Let me know! (:

Basic eyeshadows:
- matte ivory (off white) for highlights or bright color base.
- pink & brown, they go great together, matte or slight sheen
- true orange (like the orange peel but a shade lighter), slight shimmer or matte
- a black liner
Fun:
- gold/champagne, shimmer obvi
- Blue&Green, bright matte or dark jewel tone, love them together
Those are colors I want/like/always have. Other colors are ok but I don't care if I don't have them (grey, black, purple, wine etc).

What a great post!
I always use cool toned matte browns and I change up the lid color. I either use a gold, peach or taupe shade. For night time, I use black for the corners of my eyes. I change up the look by added more or less eye liner. I always apply liquid liner on top and then a black kohl pencil underneath.

Good question ......I generally use browns, I prefer shimmer but I can do matte as well. I also always have purple in different variations, I'm used to makeup artists applying that color on my brown eyes when I get my makeup done. The Naked palettes are my usual go to. I also use black for smokey eye. Other than those staple colors, I play with a color called Freelove by UD which is coral like and everyone on here raves about it too. I like grey, gunmetal is one of my favs in Naked, it's a grey/bluish color. I usually wear black eyeliner and black mascara, cannot go a day without mascara. Shimmer looks good on me, at least I think so, matte seems to dull. I could be wrong but no one has told me I'm too sparKly. I've also recently tried a nude eyeliner for mywaterline during the day. It looks much more low key for work and opens up my eyes. lexikaye: tell us more about your preferences!

Hi lexikaye,
This is a fun post! I actually LOVE to use (lately) matte brown shades. My eyes are pretty big and the older I get the more I realize how shimmery colors don't always work the best or are the most flattering. I also use (besides browns) a lot of gray or purple tones. Smashbox has some selections for these!

What a great question -- I'm enjoying reading the other answers!
I don't always wear shadow, but generally, I like browns paired with a bare pink or a taupe.
These are my favorite daily staples (that can be used on their own, and not as part of a coordinated eye look):
Burberry Rosewood: It's a slightly iridescent taupe -- so great for everyday, and probably the one I use most.
Burberry Trench: It's ivory colored and slightly darker than my complexion -- so it's actually really good at evening discoloration on my eyelids and making me look more awake, even if I'm not wearing any other shadow.
Burberry Pale Barley: Kind of a taupey gold...it's kind of a weird color.
These are my other random favorites (for specific eye looks):
NARS Cordura (rich browns), NARS Charade (mauve and a smoky plum) -- I love both of these duos.
Chanel Quad, Demure: Three peachy / pink shades and a deep brown -- this is definitey my go-to eyeshadow compact.
UD Naked Palettes -- I have light blue eyes, and I find all of the neutral / brown / bronze shades useful! ![]()

Hi,
I love that you own a good amount of neutrals, since that'll help support colored eyeshadows and it's always nice to keep it simple sometimes.
Some others that I think are beauitful to have on your eyes are shades of purple. I love eggplant deep purple liners, wine colored shadows, and fresh lilac shadow for all over. I think the color is great on any eye color and you can create mulitple looks by using variations of the color.

3. Yves Saint Laurent Ombre 5- 4 lilac sky

I also love palettes too. Stila makes great ones that will give you some colors and nudes all in one place.

I have hazelish brown eyes, so I love to use golds, purples, bronzes and greys to bring them out.
For a typical day look I usually use a peachy or gold colour on the lid, a bronze/brown in the crease and blend out the outer corner with a darker brown colour. I'll use a gel purple liner on the top, and a little black or brown mascara depending on my mood.
For night, I like to break out the purple, black and silver/grey eyeshadow! I love a jewel toned smokey eye. I usually use black liquid winged liner on the top and do a purple/black combo smudged into the bottom lash line. If I'm feeling particularly sassy I'll use a gold colour smudged into the lash line.
