Neutral eyelid primer v shimmer. What is best when you already wear shimmery eye shadow?

I've always used the Too Faced neutral primer but I would like to try a shimmer UD version. Would it be wise to use with the Benefit creaseless cream shadows since they already have shimmer? I noted most users of the shimmer version comment that it makes their plain eye shawdow pop which I don't if that would be needed for the shimmer shadows. Also, I don't want the colors to compete.

I think this would be personal preference. I think the simmer primer changes the look of shadow, which to me is not good. I prefer my primer to make the shadow truer to the color in the pan rather than increase the shimmer. I guess on that same note I really can't work with primers that are too much like a concealer. If it's too opaque it becomes challenging to work with or can look cakey. I haven't really strayed from UD's orginial primer potion for these reasons. I've heard good things about the Too Faced Shadow Insurance though.

Loves: Urban Decay Primer Potion

Eyeshadow Primer Potion Tube - Original

Not so loved: Laura Mercier (I couldnt' find it on the site, so maybe they don't sell it anymore)

Bare Minerals Prime Time Eyelid primer. I normally love BE products, but this eye primer wasn't brightening, it was down right glittery. Who wants chunks of glitter in their primer. It gets everywhere and I didnt' see a big difference in wear of my shadow.

Hi Ikds,

I like to use a neutral base with no shimmer in it. A bit of shimmer is nice under the brow however, I feel that a flat base picks up the color a bit better. A bit of shimmer may change the texture and look of the shadow. I say try both to see which one you like the best:smileyhappy:

Hi Ikds

I always use a neutral primer, either Bare Minerals or Urban Decay. I just like the fact that it really extends the life of the shadow on my lids. I've tried Too Faced Shadow Insurance in Candelight and wasn't crazy about it because it would change any color shadow that was on it to golds and browns. I've only once tried the Bare Minerals Pearl Primer and it didn't change the colors on top and did really make the colors just overal standout. So its a good buy but you gotta really find one that won't change the color on top. I've always wanted to try Urban Decay's Primer Potion in either Sin or Greed but I haven't yet. I also don't believe that a shimmer primer and shimmer shadow would look bad or anything. I think with the right primer it would look awesome but again the only way to really know is to try it.

All bases are used to make your eye shadow pop the shimmery base will add more sparke to your eyeshadow than a matte, but I recomend the UD prmers .

It depends on what you want and what colors you are using... I would definetly use URban Decay GREED primer potion or  my second option will be SIN primer potion only if you don't like  that much shimmer. It really depends on you I will just use these primers if I wanna enhance the color!
