Eyeshadow! Love it, Hate it or Don't use it? And Why?!
What is it that you like or dislike eyeshadow? If you don't use it, how come?
I love eyeshadow, especially ANYTHING sparkly (Urban Decay!!), but I have a hard time with dark colours, especially for a dark smokey eye. What about everyone else?

[ Edited ]I am an eyeshadow queen! My shadow collection seems to expand on a weekly basis these days
. Although I love experimenting with color to create more avante garde looks, there's nothing like a bold smokey eye or classic natural shadow look. What I love most about eyeshadow is the fact that it has the ability to transform the eyes in countless ways.

I love, love, love eyeshadow. It definitely makes up the bulk of my makeup, and I do mean bulk! I am a sucker for new palettes and currently am loving the UD Mariposa palette. It's small, portable, has a good selection of colors but not overly bright ones so I can feel comfortable using them everyday. By far the most shadows in my collection are from UD, my only requests (not even a complaint) is that they have the tendency to get carried away with sparkle and glitter in their shadows. Overly glittery ones make my eyes itch and require a couple of extra steps in the AM to lessen fallout.
Dark smokey eye can be hard to pull off, especially if you aren't used to it. Try one with greys or slightly darker color rather than a black based one and see if you can get used to it before you try a full-on dark smoldering look.

I LOVE eyeshadows and have more eye shadows than anything else when it comes to makeup. However, I didnt start wearing eyeshadow on a daily basis until just recently. ( I have to start using them everyday or I wont get through them by the expiration date and I have recently been slightly obsessed with cream shadows--they take up less time in the morning, no blending, no 4 step application process, no primer and no brushes needed). ![]()

[ Edited ]Of all of the cosmetic categories in my stash, eyeshadow is the most underrepresented, but I have been getting more into it as of late. Before this year, I had one Chanel quad and two NARS Duos (that was it). This year, I fell in love with the Guerlain Ecrin 6 Couleurs palettes (I have four of them)...the UD NAKED palette, and Burberry Sheer Eyeshadow (the smoothest I have ever used). I tend to gravitate toward neutrals (browns, taupes), greys, and sometimes plums.
I didn't use shadow very much in the past because I never thought I needed to -- I always wear a touch of black eyeliner and mascara, and that always seemed to be enough for me. I would really only wear eyeshadow occasionally -- and even then, it was usually a neutral pink / brown combo (read: subtle).

Eyeshadow can do a lot for your look so I love it. I have the tendency to collect eyeshadows of weird colors that I use rarely. I feel like my eyes stand out a lot naturally so I can get away with no eyeshadow. On those No eyeshadow type days I just wear a matte brown in my crease to bring out my bone structure and absorb oily lids. I used to love shimmer too, but I'm taking up a new profession (teaching) and I'm learning to do my makeup with a lot of matte colors. Thank you for asking!

I have worn eyeshadow every day for the past 40+ years (seriously) unless I am sick in bed and not leaving the house which is never. I actually don't leave home without it. I hadn't given it much thought until I saw your question...right now I use Urban Decay and NARS.

Eyeshadow takes up the most in my makeup collection lol. I love being creative with it, especially bright colors. I've tried to not wear as many brights now since it's Fall, but it's not always easy lol.
The brands of eyeshadow I currently have are Urban Decay and Kat Von D. I've also tried my mom's Sephora Mono Eyeshadows and I like them as well. Urban Decay has great pigmentation! I absolutely love the 15th Anniversary Palette. In Kat Von D, I have the True Romance Palette in Truth. Her shadows are great as well, but the pigmentation isn't quite as strong as UD, but that's not a bad thing. Sometimes it's good to have shadows that aren't as strong.

Actually, I have more eye liners than shadow (if counting palettes as one eye shadow item). Still, my shadow collection is decently big since I love color. For simple looks, I still love pops of color. Even neutral shades can add dimension and color in their own regard.
I also do not buy into certain eye colors can only wear x number of shades. It is more or less of how to use color effectively and having the confidence to wear it. For Halloween, I was rocking the MUFE eye shadow 75 (bright fuchsia pink) as the main shadow color.
I do not have too many smokey dark colors (except the black that just happens to be in the UD Deluxe Palette). The darkest I prefer to go is a gray (Shu Uemura IR 985 gunmetal grey). Otherwise, those colors would look better on me for things such as fashion photography.
As for textures, I love working with matte colors and semi shimmery colors. Full out chunky glitter, not so much on the eyelid but it is fun to place in other areas of the face and body.
Another fun thing you can do with eye shadow is re purpose it. I've seen people use it with gloss to make unusual lip colors, eye brow colors, painting, etc. If I could afford the classes, lodging, etc.; I would love to attend one of those professional MUA courses for hobby purposes.
Any dislikes? Besides certain brands and availability, not too many complaints.

Don't like UD sparkles cause they make my eyelids a bit itchy (sensitive skin) and fall on my cheeks. I love their pigment payoff though on almost all shadows (especially deluxe).
More obsessed with MUFE "92" shadow for lid and my Nyx "Africa" above crease with UD "Zero" as accent and Too Faced "Pink Leapord" from my Leapord Love complexion palette. I change it up often but keep coming back to this combo.
I did just order a new MUFE shadow and an Illamasqua one tonight, so we'll see what that does.

love it, Love it, LOVE IT! I love how much color can transform how you look and put me in such a positive mood. I love pretty sparkly things and that definitely includes my eyeshadow duos, trios and palettes! (Read: I have a lot of Clinique shadows too. Subtler than my UD palettes, but still fun to play with!) Color brightens my mood and puts me in such good spirits.
I can do most colors, but for some reason, I'm having a hard time with the "v" look. I watched a couple videos on youtube and I think I'm getting the hang of it now with dark shadows (black and gray for sure), but it's still going to take practice with blending and such. One brush that was suggested for getting the v set up was the Urban Decay blending brush though...it's a good stiff small dome brush to do it (Makeup Geek is a great site and Marlena is SO good when it comes to showing techniques, how to pull off colors, etc.)
But yes, cream, powder eyeshadows, pencil/crayons? Bring them on! I want COLOR!

I do really like eyeshadows and love the way it looks on people, but my big problem with eyeshadow is that the skin around my eyes is super sensitive. Around the time I turned 20, out of nowhere I started having reactions to various makeup and skin products. My eyelids would be extremely swollen and watery. (I also developed seasonal allergies, something i never had problems with before). So because of this I would wear very little eye makeup in fear of irritating my eyes. However since then, I have found out what seems to trigger those problems, and which moisturizers work best with my sensitive skin. Finally I am starting to warm up to eyeshadows again, and I am having a lot of fun with them.

I love eyeshadows. I personally love eyeshadows in palettes. Whether its duo, or a huge 160+ palette, drugstore or highend . . Love them all!. I lean towards the neutral side, but i do try to buy different colors just incase i need it. But, . . . . I hardly wear eyeshadows. Maybe once a week? Unless i`m going some place special, attending an event or date with my boyfriend. Which is not too often because i work most of the time. I try to keep it simple on a daily basis because i like to get as much sleep as i can haha. I guess what i hate about it, is i have ocd if it doesnt look right,. Everything has to be blended and both eyes must be similar or close to perfect. If its a look i`ve done over and over again, its a breeze but if i want to try something new it takes awhile because redo it if i don`t think it looks right ![]()
