What cleanser is good for dry skin?
I've been using the clinique foaming face wash and it has been drying out my skin and making me feel kind of itchy. Is there a better cleanser that won't be so drying? I was thinking about the philosophy purity cleanser or an origins cleanser, but I don't really know how it'll affect my skin. Help?

Hi there! ![]()
It sounds to me that you may have more of a sensitive prone skin type. If I'm not mistaken the Clinique foaming wash is formulated with salicylic acid, and this ingredient is known to often cause irritation, especially to those with sensitive skin. A mild cleanser I recommend and like myself is Korres' Milk Proteins Cleanser.
This contains vegetable oils as a base to hydrate the skin while at the same time cleanses it. After cleansing, it feels like there's a hydration barrier over your skin to prevent skin from becoming dehydrated. Because it's all natural, it's safe for sensitive skin.
Another one I also like alot is called TRISAN. This one is a mild, antibacterial cleanser, and is sold at Wal-Mart or any drugstore. I like the fact that it makes skin so soft but contains ingredients to kill acne at the same time.
Hope this helps!

The more foamy a cleanser is, the more drying it is. If you have dry skin, look for a cleansing gel, oil, or milk, all of which are for dry skin. I'm not a big fan of philosophy cuz their stuff is so chemical-y, I would suggest looking into Boscia or Fresh Soy lines.

The Clinique cleansers made my skin super dry as well, and I usually NEVER have dry skin! In fact, I lean more toward oily than I do dry, but it seems like clinique products make my skin dry and itchy (other than the eye cream). That being said, I'd avoid anything clinique and try maybe an oil, like Josie Maran's Argan Oil Cleanser or Jojoba oil (only 100% pure jojoba oil, found at health food stores like whole foods). Oils are usually good for dry skin, yet don't make you super oily! They are excellent at cleaning the face while also providing excellent hydration! I've found that products that are loaded with a ton of ingredients can cause the skin to dry out, regardless of the type of skin you have! Sticking with products that lean more toward the natural side might be helpful....
Best of luck!

[ Edited ]Out of those two, I would go with the origins. Purity has too much fragrance in it and will probably dry out your skin similar to the clinique. I would not pick the one with mint (checks and balances) in it since menthol has a tendency to dry out the skin too.
One of my favorites are the cleansers from Skyn Iceland (available at their official site). The Pure Cloud Cleanser is wonderful without leaving behind any residue or dryness. For a little bit of a more gentle foaming clean (without stripping), the Glacial Face Wash.
REN Cleansers are also great. http://www.sephora.com/moisture-protect-comfort-pl
A cleansing oil is also a great choice. Amore Pacific http://www.sephora.com/treatment-cleansing-oil-fac
Hope that helps!
