The best product
I don't know what is the difference between a serum, a cleanser and a moisturizer. I have a dry skin and I don't know what to put in my face in the morning and at night. Thank you!
Sorry for my bad English.

[ Edited ]I will try to do a more pictured display from one brand to help explain (order of use as followed):
Cleanser - removes makeup and impurities. Comes in many formats (foam, gels, oils, creamy, etc.). Typically used either before bed, while in the shower, before using other skincare products/makeup.

Caudalie Gentle Cleanser - http://www.sephora.com/gentle-cleanser-P6026?skuId
Toner (optional) - Balances the pH level and preps the skin. Usually has a thin, water-like consistency. Alcohol-free is the best route for drier skin.

Caudalie Toning Lotion- http://www.sephora.com/toning-lotion-P253623?skuId
Serum - A concentrated, targeted form of product. Usually comes in a dropper or pump packaging. Their benefits range on personal needs/wants. Some people use multiple serums in their skincare routine. This one displayed is targets restoration of moisture and hydration:

Caudalie Vinosource s-o-s thirst quenching serum - http://www.sephora.com/vinosource-s-o-s-thirst-que
Creams - Again another optional layer. Benefits depend on the product. For example- anti-aging. Eye creams are fairly common.

Caudalie Premier Cru The Eye Cream- http://www.sephora.com/premier-cru-the-eye-cream-P
Moisturizer- Depending on the consistency format (again creams, gels, emulsions), these can usually be found in pump, squeeze tube, jar format. Used to lock in hydration. It's the last layer before makeup or SPF application.

Caudalie Vinosource Quenching Sorbet Creme- http://www.sephora.com/vinosource-quenching-sorbet
Hope that helps!

A serum is thicker than a moisturizer and should go underneath a moisturizer. Usually people only use serums at night because it can get sticky and oily. Serums are also more potent than moisturizers because they'll penetrate your skin better. Just make sure if you use a serum that you let it fully absorb before applying your moisturizer. A cleanser is meant for cleansing your skin of any impurities. Try to look for any products without sulfates and menthol if your skin is dry because these ingredients dry out your skin. I hope this was helpful and good luck!

Hi Kate1993 - you're so cute apologizing for your "bad english" I think you did just fine, I totally understood what you meant. I know that sometimes it's even harder to write in a 2nd language that it is to speak in a 2nd language. Ran8 gave you some great information. Somebody (don't remember who)mentioned that serums might not be great for daytime as they can be heavy or sticky. That can be true, sometimes they are, but there are so many different serums with all different textures. Some can be heavy or sticky but there are many, many serums that are very light, and some in between. Some need a few minutes to soak in and others disappear in seconds. So it really depends, it also depends on whether or not you're using the right serum for your skins needs.
There are so many products out there it could drive you crazy. You also should know that you don't necessarily need to use a serum and a moisturizer and whatever else. Often just a moisturizer is enough, depending partly on your age and your skins needs.
One really BIG thing that you should be using though, if you use nothing else, use sunscreen. Some moisturizers have sunscreen built in and some people like the fact that you can do 2 steps in 1. Other people like to use a separate moisturizer and sunscreen, everybody's different. You might like to try a product like Bare Escentuals (Bare Minerals) Mineral Foundation and Mineral Veil that have sunscreen built in (there are 2 versions, 1 with sunscreen and 1 without) that way you're getting some coverage of imperfections, if you need it, and gives you protection from the sun. Also, Bare Minerals is good for your skin.
If you want more specific info or recommendations, just post any other questions with information about your approximate age and info about your skin. Hope this helped you.
I also noticed that it says you're new, so I wanted to welcome you and be the first to give you a heart! Hope there are many more to come. Take care and hope to see you around. ![]()

Cleanser = soap for your face, like how you wash your hand clean with soap, you wash your face clean with cleanser.
Serum = vitamins, nutrients, and good for you things that you want to sink into your skin.
Moisturizer = lotion, cream, moisturizer, things that hydrate your skin so it is not dry.
You should use a cleanser to clean your face of dirt, oil and stuff. After that, use a serum if you have any skin concerns (wrinkles, large pores, dark spots). If you don't have skin concerns, use a moisturizer after cleansing.
You should use cleanser and moisturizer at night before going to bed. In the morning, you can just rinse with water if you don't want to use cleanser, but after cleaning your face with water or cleanser, you need to use a moisturizer with SPF. Because too much sunlight will cause wrinkles in the long run, use a moisturizer with sunscreen will help with that (SPF indicates how much coverage is the sunscreen, like blocking the sunlight using a cloth vs using a cardboard. higher is more coverage. SPF 15 is the standard and SPF30 is better).
