I have the same dry. flaky skin!  I've struggled with it for so long, but I've finally found products that work for me.

Use a creamy face wash.  I like using any of the Neutrogena cream face washes.  They don't dry out my skin and my skin doesn't have the stretched out feeling after I wash.  For moisturizers, here's what I tried and what works for me.

1.  Shu Uemura depsea hydrability intense moisturizing concentrate ($75) - Pricey, but soooo worth it!  YOU ONLY NEED TO USE IT ONCE A DAY.  I USE IT AT NIGHT.  IT COMES WITH AN EYEDROPPER DISPENSER.  I USE THREE DROPS FOR MY ENTIRE FACE.  IT'S A MIRACLE SERUM!

2.  CHANEL HYDRAMAX + ACTIVE MOISTURe CREAM ($72) - again, pricey, but also worth it.  i actually used this before i discovered shu uemura, and this was what initially turned my dry skin around.  after about a week of using this as my night cream (since it has no spf), my skin was amazing soft and the flakes were gone.  i bought it last year and still have half the tub left.

3.  chanel beaute initiale ($75) - i use this as my day cream because it has spf 15 and prevents early signs of aging.  i don't know if this is worth getting because it's really the hydramax that changed my skin, but it works as a really great moisturizer.  i don't know if i will repurchase.  i am honestly so impressed with shu uemura's skincare products that i might switch over.

4. bobbi brown extra soothing balm ($55) - for those stubborn patches, i use bobbi brown's extra soothing balm.  my nose tends to peel the most and seems extra resistant to moisture, so i use this.  after a couple days, my nose stopped peeling!  A freakin miracle!!!  the texture is just like it say, a balm.  it feels kinda like potted lip balm.  i thought it would be greasy, but was surprised that it wasn't.

i know i recommended expensive products, but if i had known about these products before i tried a million others, i would have saved bundles of money.  i still have a bathroom closet full of all the old stuff i tried and never ended up finishing using.  these products, with the exception of the chanel beaute initiale, i would repurchase in a heartbeat.  i've tried all the drugstore brands, and nothing had healed my flaky skin, so i moved on to the high end brands.  and i mean all of them.  if you still want to go for a drugstore brand first, try aveeno.  it was the closest to getting my skin looking better, but it didn't go 100%.

i hope this helps!

I have very dry skin too. If you are looking for a very good deal on a great facewash I recommend you buy

St. Ives products- they are natural and smell pretty good

I have been using St.Ives products for about 6 months now and I swear they work very well. I have eczema so I know about the troubles of having very dry skin.

I hope this helps you and anyone else with dry skin :smileyhappy:

I have oily skin and I use Clinique's Dramatically Different moisturizer- the gel version for oily skin. For dry skin try Clinique's Dramatically Different moisturizer, but make sure you try the lotion NOT the gel- that will make your skin even drier. Hope this helps!

I have really dry skin so I know how frustrating it can be to look for a good foundation that doesn't highlight the dryness of your face... sigh... With that said - I've had a lot of success with Philosophy Purity made simple for a facewash. It's creamy and it leaves the skin feeling not dry - which is a biggy for me. For the foundation, I've always made sure to mosturize before applying makeup and right now I'm using Jurlique Hydrating Mist - Lavender and then I apply makeup base and then use foundation. I'm using Makeup Forever HD Foundation. I hope this helps!

My skin is exactly the same and my beauty regimen consists of Boscia's Soothing Cleansing Cream and Balancing Facial Tonic (this is the biggest life saver--no tight itchy skin) followed by Korres Wild Rose 24-hour Moisturizer. The best foundations I have found for my skin are Laura Mercier's tinted moisturizer (for light coverage) and Stila's Illuminating Liquid Foundation. Both just give you the glowy fresh look that dry skin lacks.

In terms of face washes, I found this one by Murad to be very hydrating -- it didn't leave my face feeling tight afterward:

http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P38217&categoryId=B70. It also exfoliates (which would help with flaking!) and smells fantastic.

It also sounds as if you need a good moisturizer! I'm not sure if aging is a concern for you yet, but this is a great one from Clinique called Superdefense; there is a dry to very dry formulation: http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P223706&categoryId=B70. Another good one with which I have recently fallen in love is Caudalie's Quenching Sorbet Creme, which hydrates even my dry, sensitive skin: http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P271704&categoryId=B70. (It does not contain SPF, so it would be best to use a separate sunscreen.)

My skin is dry, and I love Make Up For Ever HD Invisible Cover Foundation -- the finish is smooth and flawless, and it doesn't cake or look heavy at all: http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P217905&categoryId=C13402

This moisturizer from Super by Perricone is enriched with Omega 3 oils, and super hydrating.....

I recommend the supplement too, to hydrate skin from the inside . Great for hair, skin, nails, especially as we head into the cooler months.....

This is a foundation Balm from Bobbi Brown, also has spf.......
