Hi Ladies - I used to use Rx retin A, but it's now too expensive with my current insurance. So last year I switched to trying all kinds of retinols, retinoids, and other retin-y skincare products OTC, mostly from Sephora. I liked several, but of course nothing with results that approached my Rx (Retasphere not bad, Algenist I liked the combo of acid and retinol) -- but then again, none of the side effects either. Even with the supposedly "strongest" of these ingredients, I got smoother, clearer skin with less lines and more even tone -- but very little in the way of side effects. Maybe slight dryness but nothing like the flaking/peeling, dryness, etc. that I had sometimes experienced in the past with Rx. This month I tried Poetry in Lotion at the suggestion of an SA when I said I wanted to step up to something stronger. After using it a few nights in one week (two or three), I noticed some dryness and flaking (not extreme, not a huge deal). Now, my question is - do we think that means it's stronger and it will work better? Or just that I had a worse reaction to it, but it's unlikely that it's doing more "work"? I like retin products because they help me with occasional breakouts (less), and they help keep my pores clear of blackheads and SF, and they help fade marks from previous breakouts. Plus keeping those early signs of aging and small wrinkles (or in case of forehead, creases already!) at bay. TL;DR: Does more dryness and flaking (totally tolerable, just a bit!) with Poetry in Lotion over previous retin overnight treatments mean I'm getting "better" results/stronger treatment and it's worth it!?
Hey ladies! I have a quick question, and I was hoping you all could help! I have combo skin with dry patches on my cheeks, and am acne prone on my chin. I use the Dr Dennis Gross peel once or twice a week, , and follow it with fresh seaberry oil. My cheeks are still pretty dry the next day. Is it okay to follow the peel with a Sephora Honey or Pearl sheet mask? I just don't want to over-process my skin, but I do want to mousiest uprise more. Thanks!
So I spoke to my sister this afternoon and she complained that she's breaking out really badly and can't figure out why, since she's washing her face and hasn't been wearing any makeup lately. She DOES tend to sleep in her makeup, which she knows is a big no-no, but that's not where the problem is. My sisters and I were blessed with clear skin (aside from the occasional zit), so the fact that she's breaking out horribly (other than being 30 and possibly being a hormonal shift) is not normal. She said she's washing her face in the shower, which is fine, except for the fact that she has hard water. The hard water doesn't help your skin. Then she says her skin feels greasy all the time lately too. She currently uses the First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser and from what I experienced when I used it, I'm getting the feeling it's stripping her skin of moisture and lipids....which is obviously going to make your skin overproduce oil to counteract the loss. So, does anyone have a good suggestion for a cleanser she could use? She can't use Josie Moran at all. Clinique maybe, but this is difficult since she has such sensitive, dry skin like I do. A lot of cleansers I would suggest for her won't work for skin like they have on mine. I do plan on getting her a Mia for her birthday in April though, so if she wants to continue washing her face in the shower, that'll help.
I was looking for a new daily cleanser.I was using Murad Daily Cleansing Foam but wanted to try something new.Has anyone used the new Glamglow cleansers?I believe the black one just came out and couldn't decide between that one or the white one.I have combo skin, pores, blackheads, whiteheads on chin and those darn smile lines.Any help is appreciated.
Hi, I'm looking for a great cleansing oil that can remove all my makeups, including waterproof eye makeups. I've tried Tatcha Pure Step Camellia Cleansing Oil and absolutely love it! However, the problem for me is that I don't wear makeups everyday, I usually only wear makeups at weekends. Since Tacha would expire in 6 month after opening, I won't finish one in time and it would be a waste. Now I'm looking for a cleansing oil that is great at removing all makeups. If nothing as great as Tatcha, then at least something close to it Could you give me some suggestions? Thank you! Did anyone tried both Tatcha and Shu Uemura? What do you think?
when I use Clarins hydraquench cream which is for normal to dry, I start to have acne all over my face. and then I changed to Origins make a differnce plus rejuvenating treatment. It was light texture. the acne seems gone away. it was okay but start to very dried my skin. So, I got a Ole Henriksen Sheer transformation recently. It still make my skin dry and very flaky. Please recommend a good moisturizer for me thank you
I have normal skin and I've never had acne or pimple except maybe one every few months but I just leave it alone and it will be gone in a few days but recently, I've started wearing bb cream and I noticed some small acnes on my T-zone area. People told me to wear a moisturizer before applying bb cream but I don't know which ones to get since most of the products are targeted for people with either really dry skin or oily skin.
In need of a great skin care regimen for very dry cheeks and top of nose, but oily chin an t-zone. I'm also starting to notice some fine lines forming around where dimples would be along with around my eyes. My cheeks, top of nose and under eye area get so dry they've started flaking. But I still end up oily around my nostrils and chin areas. It's not the most attractive with my foundation! I'm only 24 guys!!! I need to nip this in the bud!
I have combination skin, oily on my cheeks & t-zone and dry around my mouth and eyes. I'm currently using Cetaphil face wash and Cetaphil moisturizer since my skin doesn't react to it, but I feel like it's doing nothing for my skin. It just cleans it, but it doesn't clear up my small red/dark spots I have on my face. I have very sensitive skin, any new moisturizer/face wash I use my face reacts to. I don't want to keep trying new products because my face reacts big time and I start to get these tiny bumps and end up going back to Cetaphil.Does anyone have this problem? Any suggestions on what face washes to use? (Might be tough since my skin is weird...)
Hello! I really hope this question doesn't come off as rude because that is not my intention. Do Sephora employees really know their skincare or are they only trained a little bit in it? I have a dermatologist but I really don't think he'd be very helpful at determining what kind of products I could use because every visit with him lasts less than 15 minutes and he seems more eager to leave than an eager to help. I want to speak with someone who will help me and take the time to do so but who is also really knowledgeable and will be able to tell me what kind of products I can start incorporating. Again, I really hope this doesn't offend because Sephora is one of my favorite places to be. If I could spend all of my time and money there, I definitely would. Thank you so much!
Hi I am fedup with my current foundation set which gives me a boring matte look. I am looking for a concealer, foundation and powder that would give me a fresh glowing complexion. I am indian with yellow skin undertone. Can you recommend a brand or options?
I have been using Ole Hendrikson Vitamin C moisturizer in the morning and a Kiehls moisturizer at night. My face has been flaky lately.I have used all kinds of cleansers. I am currently using Simple cleanser. I have used Ole Henriksen, Philosophy, and others. Most dry out my skin. The Simple cleanser did work, not sure about now. I wash morning and night. Before the moisturizer, I use Ole Henriksen pure truth oil and an eye cream. I use Smashbox primer too. I exfoliate once or twice a week. I have recently used PRT pumpkin enzyme mask. I wanted to try something more mild than the OH walnut one (too harsh). Any advice on something else I could use? I'm not opposed to using one lotion for day and night. I have combination skin that has a tendency to break out at times. Thanks.
So as I mentioned in another post, I have an issue with foundation separating on my skin, and I was told to try working a daily exfoliant into my skincare regimen. What are some of your recommendations for a nice daily exfoliant, particularly ones for normal skin?
So I got a sample of Powermud, and of course I love it. I was really hoping that Glamglow would be overhyped. I had only tried the brightmud before which didn't work well for me. Any ideas of a less expensive dupe? Doesn't need to be the same consistency (I don't know if there even are other mud to oil products) but at least something that does the same thing. It made my skin very smooth, lightly exfoliated, and my pores looked cleaner. Overall just seemed more polished without being harsh. Thanks for any advice you may have
Hi Everyone, So I need some advice. I'm looking to find a new skincare regimen that actually works. I've used things in the past that have either worked for a bit or have done absolutely nothing. A little bit about my skin. I'm in my mid 20's and have light acne, struggle with uneven texture and have some scarring. My skin is combination and is relatively sensitive. In and ideal world my skincare would clear my acne, even out my texture and lighten my scarring. If anybody has any product recommendations that would target my problems and that you think would work for me PLEASE let me know!! Thanks so much!
I started using Ole Henrikson's vitamin C Truth serum about 2 months ago, and I love it. I just ordered the Whole Truth kit (moisturizer and eye cream plus the serum) as well. My skin has been pretty dry this winter (combo skin, particularly dry and acne prone chin and jawline) so I'm thinking about adding a night cream and/or CC cream to my regime. Should I use products with vitamin C in them, or is there such a thing as "too much"?
I have combination skin have a very oily t-tone especially my forehead. Nothing seems to make it go aways or decrease the shine. i haven't found a good combination of products.what products do you recommend. moisturizers /primer/foundation
Hi all, I am looking for suggestions for a good sunscreen that won't cause my face to squirt oil and break out. I've tried all of the neutrogena, ombrelle, and clinique ones but they all made my face very oily and shiny and some caused breakouts. I'm hoping to find a nice light sunscreen that I can put makeup on top of Thanks for your help!
Ever since having my first (and only!) child I have suffered from dark circles under my eyes as well as darkness in my lids. I hate it!! I have tried all kinds of products. I just picked up Bareminerals Stroke of Light and that helps a little bit, but I still see things I don't like. Under my eyes look sunken and dark. Also, I have (what I like to refer to) as scales like deposits (they are soft) which start from the inner corner of my eyes and go out and under my eyes under they dissipate into my cheeks. When I was checking out at my local Sephora over the weekend they suggested Ole Henriksen's Walnut complexion scrub and the blue/black berry enzyme mask. They were out of both, so I wasn't able to get a sample. I love his products and have many, but not these. Any suggestions? Assuming I need to exfoliate around/under my eyes to get rid of those bumps? Right now, I only exfoliate once a week with Glam Glow Youthmud and follow with my normal Ole products (truth serum, nurture) but that doesn't get near my eyes. Thanks!
I have combination skin, i don't have any problems with blemishes as of right now. My main concern is that i have very large pores, blackheads, and very dry skin. I've been using neutrogena daily cleanser with the neutrogena organic cleanser. Both day and night. My skin is slightly sensitive. My skins been looking very dull. Any suggestions?
I'm scared to try the false eyelashes, since they can make your lashes fragile, not to mention expensive. The serum to help in crease growth is known to change light colored eyes brown (I have blue/green eyes)Can anyone suggest what can I do to make eyelashes longer and natural looking?
Hey Beauties, I just got the Bareminels Brightening Serum Foundation with SPF 20 and definitely NOT IN LOVE with it. It was recommended to me by a SA. I was looking for a product that I could wear daily with SPF. I'm just wondering, am I better off with a moisturizer? Or are there better foundations for combo skin that wouldn't look bad on me? My skin tone match is 3Y09. Thank you!
I have an EXTREMELY oily forehead and t-zone area, but very dry cheeks (probably due to acne products). I feel like my current moisturizer doesnt help with the dryness of my cheeks at all, so when i wear makeup it looks flaky and gross. However, I also don't want a moisturizer that will address the flakiness but will leave my oily parts looking super shiny and oily throughout the day. Any suggestion for a moisturizer that helps with both of these problems?!
I received a Clarisonic PLUS as one of my Christmas gifts. I've read about the cleansers that came with it and they don't tend to get high ratings. I take 22 different meds/day and my skin is dry & a tad oily in the T zone. I'm 45 and I've bee using various top brands, but I ran out and thought I sh start anew, especially with the Clarisonic PLUS. On top of which, the PLUS can be used on your body, so can I just use my normal Bath & Body Works products?
I am a huge GlamGlow fan about to open my first Brightmud package after trying several samples and liking the results. I rotate my GlamGlow masks weekly and I was wondering if anyone had Brightmud usage tips to share. I was wondering when you do a brightmud treatment, do you use eyecream after or just use the treatment alone? How often do you use it? I do get multiple uses from one single cell for both eyes, do any of you do the same? Thank you.
Hello, I have noticed a HUGE difference in my skin since I have religiously stuck to my skincare regime for the past 5 days or so but does anyone else sometimes feel it hard to do so? I know many of you have families and such/work etc and are tired at the end of day or even get busy in the morning. For myself I've been experiencing a lot of pain due to my disability and and at the end of the day I just am about beat. lol But let me tell you my new years resolution has become stick to my skincare regime because I feel like I look amazing! My skin looks brighter/feels smoother/almost no breakouts. And yes I know some of you are like duh but who else feels the struggle with me?
There was a post long ago that had to do with beauty tricks and secrets that I can't find, and I had a great discovery today, so I thought I'd start a new one for 2015. I was changing my Clarisonic head today and noticed some residue stuck in the plastic and wire part under the head. It wouldn't come out with a brush because I couldn't get the brush to bend under there. I spied my Water Pik on the counter and thought "It gets out stuck food in tiny spaces between my teeth, let's give it a try". And wow, did that thing work! My Clarisonic is squeeky clean with no effort! Have you used a household item for beauty needs that isn't readily obvious?
I have relatively normal-dry skin. I say dry because after washes my skin feels like chalk and during the day it doesn't every become 'shiny oily'. I am having this issue around my nose area and under my eyes, it looks malnourished, dry, speckled, dark, pink with visible pores, just all over looks horrible! I use vitamin C by bath and body works which is alright for the first couple of hours until the morning or next following wash. I only wash am/pm so to not overdraw. I also have some blemishes that have formed a scar and was wondering if there is aNYTHING i can do to diminish it at all, i popped that one until blood came through and it ending up scaring over the spot and now looks terrible, I have a feeling I can still save it though. What I want to know is if I should start using some clay masks, or AHA creams, or deeper exfoliants to my skin. I am worried that I will only ruin the balance my skin has. I have never suffered from acne, but during school and stress I am not experiences the odd ball pimple or two. But when they come through, they're screaming "HELLO IM HERE, look at me!!"....so yeah...I am just tempted to squeeze out the stuff and then put on toothpaste. Are there are promising home remedies you know of? Will applying a warm washcloth before scrubs be beneficial and then finishing with a cold press? I like natural remedies first before I begin a whole regime that I can't go without. Also, would it be fine to sleep with Palmers cocoa butter? It seems to leave my skin super soft in the morning.
