Should you use regular moisturizer under tinted moisturizer? I have combo/oily skin (oily t-zone, normal everywhere else) and have been using my regular oil-free moisturizer under my oil-free tinted moisturizer and have been getting really greasy throughout the day but everyone has told me that I should always use my moisturizer before applying any kind of face makeup (tinted moisturizer, BB cream, foundation) - what does everyone else do?

It really depends on the tinted moisturizer. Certain tinted moisturizers like Laura Mercier's are not intended to substitute for your skin care, but there are some others that are more emollient. The problem with multitasking products like BB creams or tinted moisturizers is that they sit on top of the skin instead of sinking in, so the beneficial ingredients like brighteners or antioxidants may not get into your skin to do any good. Additionally, if you have any wrinkles or dry patches that need to be moisturized to create a smooth surface for your tinted product, then you would probably want to apply something underneath to get the most attractive results.
It doesn't sound like that's what's going on here though. It sounds like your skin is in pretty good shape, but the layering of the two products is just too much. If you're moisturizing at night, then your skin should be fine without the oil free moisturizer underneath, as long as you like the results. Skin doesn't benefit from being too moisturized, so if one product does the trick, why bother? You could always switch to a light serum or spritz an antioxidant-rich toner over your face before you get started to get those beneficial ingredients without the shine... Or only apply the oil free moisturizer where you need it and swipe an oil control product over your T-zone.
Just don't feel pressured to use more products than feels comfortable, and trust your own judgment.

Hello,
You can actually go either way. For some people tinted moisturizer is enough hydration depending on which one you are using and based on your skin type. Even though for example I have oily skin, I still like to use my regular moisturizer under my tinted moisturizer. It really comes down to personal preference and how your skin feels when you use them in conjunction or separately. Hope this helps,

Hi, In my experience it depends upon your skin and your preferance. I can use Amore Pacific's tinted moisturizer without any additional moisture underneath. However if I were to use my Nars tinted moisturizer, I'd need a boost of my regular moisturizer underneath. I have combination skin. Maybe you could try out a couple samples from Sephora and see what you think.
Best wishes!

Tinted moisturizer is just a sheer-to-light coverage foundation; it's not a moisturizer and does not substitute for an actual moisturizer in terms of skincare. Be sure, though, that your moisturizer is fully absorbed before applying the tinted moisturizer; you may have to wait several minutes. In terms of oiliness, tinted moisturizer is inherently not an oil-controlling product, so you may tend to see a bit of shine throughout the day. I would touch up as needed with powder, or switch to a more oil-controlling liquid (or powder) foundation. If you prefer tinted moisturizers, I must say that Bobbi Brown's is excellent and did not leave me shiny.
