I have normal skin and when I tried exfoliating every day, my skin feels raw, particularly when I was putting on toner. Sure, my skin was smooth, but it also felt fragile and my combo skin got drier. When I exfoliate twice a week, my skin still feel smooth, clean and not dry or raw. The skin is pretty good at taking care of it self if you feed it from inside with proper nutrition and make sure it's clean and moisturized. Exfoliation is not needed daily and may make some skin dryer or more irritated.

It also depends on the kind of scrub you use. If you are using walnut/apricot shell scrub, the hard shell can scratch your skin and I definitely do NOT recommend exofliating every day. I much prefer scrubs with round beads, or small sugar particles that melts after a while, they do the job without the jagged edge scratching your skin.

Every day will prob end up being overkill. I have very oily, sensitive, and acne prone skin. I exfoliate several times a week with Lush's Dark Angels, which is fairly abrasive and also serves as an oil-control mask. Try scrubbing for 10 seconds every other day, just to make sure you don't scrub too much and make your skin produce even more oil.

Exfoliating everyday is very bad because you are throwing off your skins pH balance. I exfoliate once a week or LESS and Im a skincare fanatic.

Exfoliating everyday with a scrub is not good for your skin because you end up getting rid of the good, healthy cells too. Depending on your skintype and preferences, you can still achieve the same results without the damages. Look for a daily exfoliating cleanser, treatment OR cream, which usually contain AHAs such as glycolic acid for example. These provide a chemical exfoliation, with ingredients in concentrations suitable for daily use yet still effective. Some daily cleansers offer a physical exfoliation, but their beads are specifically designed (quantity, shape, size...) to be super gentle for daily use.

Some examples of different possible formulas;

- Peter Thomas Roth anti-aging cleansing gel: http://www.sephora.com/anti-aging-cleansing-gel-P39274?skuId=571265

Treatments/Serums:

- Ole Henriksen Invigorating night gel: http://www.sephora.com/invigorating-night-gel-P42330

- Ole Henriksen pure perfection (or almost anything from that brand, really!): http://www.sephora.com/product/productDetail.jsp?skuId=958603&productId=P42338&keyword=ole%20henriks...

Hope that helps! :-)

Good morning, Loveallmakeup!

I have oily skin, which becomes super oily during the summer months.  I do exfoliate with a scrub 3 times a week because doing so everyday may cause more harm than good.  I prefer to use a gentle scrub such as one with a cream base like the Clinique 7-Day Scrub or the Clinique Exfoliating Scrub.  Some scrubs unfortunately can damage the skin by causing tiny tears to the skin's barrier due to their rough, uneven texture such as apricot or nut-based scrubs.

There are exfoliating cleanser that you can use everyday, however there is a huge difference in an exfoliating cleanser and an exfoliator. Alot of different things can be used in making exfoliating cleansers and you will see on the bottle they say gentle enough for every day use. I use an exfoliating cleanser every day and when I step out of the shower my face is the first thing I notice because it has a glow to it.

I really think it depends on the person, but I honestly don't exfoliate everyday. If you love to exfoliate, maybe you should switch over to chemical exfoliation. Chemical exfoliation is much more gradual and yields results that won't leave your skin as raw as exfoliation with microbeads. I hope this helps and good luck!

I don't know about everyone else, but I exfoliate every day in the shower. But then again I use a very mild scrub for 30 seconds - 1 minute and my skin feels fine and actually better. Given I use Clinique's 7-day Scrub, which, in its name, almost gives you the go ahead to use it every day. Beyond that I use Fresh Soy Cleanser which always keeps my skin nice and smooth and I could probably go without the moisturizer, but I do it anyways.

You just don't want to overkill it - so either use a bit of a coarser scrub on a weekly basis, or a mild/gentle scrub day-to-day. Just remember that if your skin isn't accepting it and feels too raw, just tone it down.

It depends on your skin type but I would definitely say that exfoliating every day probably isn't the best idea.  I have oily/combo skin that can be sensitive and prone to acne.  I exfoliate twice a week and use a mask once a week. Also I don't exfoliate the same way those two times. I use a physical exfoliator (i.e. scrub) once a week (usually Sundays along with mask) and a chemical exfoliator (like Dr. Dennis Gross pads) in the middle of the week.  I know that some people don't consider those pads or the chemical exfoliators as actually exfoliating, but technically you kinda are.  Thats why I wouldn't use those types of products, i.e. the pads, everyday.  I would say they are ok to use may 2-3 times a week.

It's honestly dependant on the person and their actual skin type.

If you HAVE to exfoliate every day, try looking into products such as a glycolic cleaner (Peter Thomas Roth's Anti-Aging Gel) or into exfoliating toner pads with alpha hydroxy acids (Exuviance Skin Rise Bionic Tonic pads). Chemical based exfoliants will still purge the skin of dead cells and dirt but are also very gentle.

If you prefer a manual or physical based exfoliate try looking into something with jojoba beads which are more gentle on the skin. I also love Boscia's facial polish, it contains sugar granuals that are softer than table sugar so it doesn't scratch at your skin. Philosophy's MIcrodelivery Scrub works well too.
