What's the purpose of toner?
I have used toner in the past, however it tends to dry out my skin so I stopped and haven't used it in years. I don't even know the purpose of it! So if anyone knows what it is or has reasons why I should use it, please write it here, thanks!
Just a note about my skin type... I have normal skin that gets dry on the forehead and nose area in the winter and forehead gets a bit oily in the heat and I rarely get pimples.
Well it dissolves the fine traces of makeup, it reduces the size of your pores (most times) and it balances out your skin pH level from all the other products you would use. Its also Refreshing. Some toners like Proactive are the main products in reducing acne but I'm not sure how that works.
But many people dont think toner is necessary because if you have a good cleanser you dont need anything more to remove makeup, reducing the size of your pores is not an issue for a lot of people, and the refreshing part isnt what people would like to pay for. However the only important aspect of it to me is reducing the pH. Skin is definitely not healthy with lingering acids and bases on it, and it could do more harm on some types of skin than good. Whether you're gonna use toner or not, you should check the level of harm you're products could be doing to you in the site skindeep. You should just google it and them you'll se something called cosmetics reviews or something....?
Anyway thats a great site, its by and official group called the ETS which rated products based on the studies of each ingredient. i really wish everyone would discover that site and decide for themselves what level they think is fine enough for them. I wouldnt give up all my makeup but Id definitely check about stuff Im using everyday. If a product isnt listed, check the ingredients individually or compare them with a product with similar ingredients..
Lol thats a looooog answer.
Toners are used to get the residue from makeup and cleanser off of your face. Normally if you have normal to dry skin, it isn't necessary. If you have oily or combo skin, it is usually suggested. There are valid arguments to both sides whether to use one or not, I myself do.
It may be drying out your skin because most toners are alcohol-based, and alcohol is a drying agent. Since your skin can also be oily try to look for a toner that states it is oil-free, alcohol-free, or both. If you'd like to get a toner from Sephora, you can just search it on the site. I myself use The Body Shop's Seaweed Clarifying Toner, my skin is very sensitive as well as the definition of combonation skin. The Body Shop is the only store I trust with my skin.
I really hope that helps you.
Toners are good for OILY skin primarily. As you stated your forehead gets a bit oily only when you're under heat so using a toner would beof good use. As you have normal skin, I don't think you need a toner at all just your cleanser and moisturizer. If you really wanna try using a toner, use Dickinson's Pore Perfecting Toner. It is oil-free, don't clog pores, removes dirt and oil and locks in moisture meaning it WON'T DRY your skin. Apply in AM and PM. Plus you find it at a very good price at any drugstore!
