Empties

I love seeing other peoples empties! So I decided to make a board where people could post pictures of their empties, or just tell us about them! I'd also be interested in knowing whether you're repurchasing anything or not.

Re: Empties

September 2016 Empties

Getting closer to my goal of finishing 200 products this year, I'm quite happy with the progress I made this year so far 😄

Spoiler

The Face Shop The Solution Pore Care Face Mask x 2 : Used this twice before getting a facial treatment and it really did make a difference in the appearance of my pores. I let it sit on my skin for about one hour and an half, until the serum was completely absorbed. I used it right before bedtime and my pores definitely looked smaller in the morning. It wasn’t sticky and the smell was pleasant. This line of mask also stick better to the face and won’t slip at all. * Will definitely repurchase in the future.

Bath & Body Works Eucalyptus Mint Gentle Foaming Hand Soap : Lovely smell that is relaxing and appropriate for all year long in my opinion. The scent lingered on my skin for quite a long time. I’m also glad that it is a permanent soap scent that I can get all year long. The foaming hand soaps from Bath & Body Works do not make my skin dry. Also, the product usually last for a great amount of time and it’s super easy to get it on sale. Finally, it’s easy to reach the bottom of the bottle. * Will definitely repurchase it in my next hand soap haul.

Lush Fizzbanger Bath Bomb : This is my favorite bath bomb of all times. The smell is incredible and perfect for fall and winter in my opinion. However, it can be a little overwhelming at times and it’s not the most relaxing bath bomb from Lush. The bomb turns the water green and yellow, which is super fun. After using this bath bomb, my skin also felt incredibly soft, which is a great bonus. Unfortunately it seems to be only sold online now in Canada, so I will have to do an order there instead of visiting the store. * Will repurchase a few of these bombs soon.

John Frieda Brilliant Brunette Visibly Deeper Colour Deepening Conditioner : I’m really glad that they did change this conditioner and I can say that I love it now. The smell used to be super strong and not so pleasant but nowadays it’s great. The product works wonder for my hair. First, it does make it a deeper colour without damaging it. Second, it keeps my hair tangle-free and moisturised. Finally, it seems to control new split ends from appearing. * Will definitely repurchase it soon.

The Face Shop Clean Face Soothing Face Mask For Oily Skin : This has become a monthly staple product in my skincare routine. It definitely helps with sebum control and does absorb it all. The green tea extracts also relax and sooth my skin when I use it. The mask itself is a bit thicker than the ones from their Real Nature line and stays on my face better too. I use it about once a month, when I feel like I can’t control my excess sebum anymore. * Have some backups already and will repurchase in the future.

Spoiler

Etude House Black Charcoal Chin Pack : Great and cheap chin strip that I would definitely like to use more often in the future. I used it when I had very congested skin and it did help a little. This is in no way a miracle product, but it’s fun to use and it did unclog some pores. Didn’t seem to do much for my blackheads, but I’ve to say that they are quite small and deep. The smell was not too noticeable and the shape of the strip was perfect. The pack was also sticking well to my skin and it didn’t hurt when I removed it. * Will repurchase in the future.

Bath & Body Works Sheer Cotton & Lemonade Shower Gel : Super nice and light smell for spring and summer. The mix of cotton and lemonade was great as well. However, I don’t feel like the staying power was the best compared to other shower gels from Bath & Body Works. Didn’t dry out my skin and was super foamy. I truly enjoy the formula of these shower gels as they are not too thick yet not too runny. * Would eventually repurchase it if it was available during semi annual sale for a great price.

Balea Limette & Aloe Vera Dusche & Creme (Travel Size) : Bought this travel size for a weekend trip because the smell was very nice and it did match the perfume I brought along too. I also enjoyed the fact that it was a 2 in 1 product and that I didn’t need to bring lotion with me. The consistency was great and not too runny. My skin felt soft after using it. I wouldn’t say that it can replace lotion totally, but it was alright for a few days. The smell wasn’t very long lasting on the skin however. * Would repurchase if it was available locally.

Pantene Pro-V Root Reboot Dry Shampoo : Was greatly impressed with this dry shampoo. It didn’t leave any stubborn white cast in my dark hair and it had a fresh, light and pleasant smell. It worked instantly and gave volume to my hair as well. The only negative thing I found about this dry shampoo is that it stopped spraying towards the end of it. There’s still around 1/5 of the product left in the bottle and it won’t get out. It is a bummer but the price tag was low when I bought it, so it was still worth it. * I would repurchase it if I could find it on sale again.

John Frieda Full Repair Strengthen + Restore Shampoo : John Frieda’s shampoos really keep my hair non oily since I started using it. The smell of this one was nice and the product itself wasn’t too heavy for my hair. The consistency is definitely on the lighter side. The shampoo does help to prevent split ends and dry hair, but it’s not as effective as the conditioner of the same line. One thing I really like too about John Frieda’s shampoos is that the packaging really allows you to squeeze until there’s not even a drop of product left. * Would repurchase in the future. Meanwhile, I’m using another line from John Frieda.

Nivea Creme Care Facial Cleansing Wipes (Sample) : The texture of these cleansing wipes was really interesting and felt super creamy. It was also very gentle for my sensible skin. However, it wasn’t the best product for removing makeup. I could make it work on days where I wore next to nothing, but that’s about it. They also didn’t dry out in the packaging, but the full size doesn’t seem to have a plastic closure, which isn’t ideal. * Would consider repurchasing only if it was super cheap, to clean my face.

The Face Shop Real Nature Red Ginseng Face Mask : Made my skin feel relaxed and hydrated. It does have anti-aging properties but I would have to use it more often to testify it. However this mask had a strong smell and the serum was a brownish color, which was a bit messy. The scent was a bit overwhelming for my taste, so it’s not a mask I would use all the time. * Would probably repurchase in the future when there’s a sheet mask promotion.

The Face Shop Real Nature Longan Face Mask : A new product to me, it was a really great mask for hydrating my skin. It wasn’t too heavy duty for my combination skin and it did sink in quite fast. I didn’t get an excess of sebum after using it unlike some other nourishing masks. The smell was also pleasant and the mask was a great fit for my face. However, it is a mask that would be better for me to use during colder months for optimal results. * Will repurchase to use during winter.

MAC Cosmetics Toledo Modern Twist Lash in Vinyl : Really nice brush with an unique shape. It was a bit big but I found that it grabbed all my lashes pretty easily. What I liked the most about that mascara was that it gave both volume and length to my lashes without being clumpy. It didn’t smudge as well and dried out quite fast. However, I feel like it did dry out faster in the tube than some other mascaras I own. * Would absolutely repurchase if they brought this formula back for another collection.

Nope

Spoiler

Sephora Collection Algae Face Mask : Left this sheet mask on my face until it was completely dry and the serum was all absorbed by my skin. However, it left my skin extremely oily after using, especially my forehead. It didn’t have any purifying properties as claimed and made my skin a bit itchy as well. The only thing I enjoyed was the sheet mask shape and that it did stick to my face really well, but that’s it. Too pricey and was a total disaster on my skin. * Will not repurchase, I may try the other masks from this line in the future to see if they are any better.

Re: Empties

Wow that is impressive! I need to set a number goal for myself for 2017. Do you keep track on paper at the end of each month or right after you use something? With my luck, DH would throw something out on me like soap 🙂 LOL

Re: Empties

I'm working on my cotton lemonade lotion right now and I get so many compliments on it.

Re: Empties

That sounds awesome.  I wish I'd set a # goal for myself.  Also nice job with the detailed reviews.  I have to say, I'm having a hard time imagining cotton and lemonade together as a fragrance!

Re: Empties

Thank you @kelloua ! 😄

I feel like setting goals with numbers really helped me to go through my stuff. I started with smaller goals as I used to be really bad at finishing my products 😛

As for the fragrance, it really was a nice one. Unexpected duos can do wonders 😄

Re: Empties

more september empties!

Screen Shot 2016-10-09 at 6.34.02 PM.png

stand outs are the girls with curls stuff, bioderma wipes, hourglass powder,  maybelline concealer and of course fix +

i know i'm in the minority here but i really didn't like the covergirl mascara!

Re: Empties

I would like to look at your blog. Can you PM me a link? Or anyone else. Thanks!

Re: Empties

Her blog is sparklezandstuffz

It is my first Google hit when I type ^^^^.

If it is not your first hit, .....

It is a wordpress blog, so make sure you add that extension (a period followed by wordpress) before the usual three letters following the period.

Re: Empties

Thank you!

Re: Empties

I have not tried that mascara yet, but I've received it a couple of times. Will check your blog review to see what about it missed.

Re: Empties

I don't think there is anything wrong with being in the minority.  There are other mascaras that get a lot of love around here that just don't work for me.  Though I do love me some Hourglass Powder.

Re: Empties

Here are my empties from the last 2 months! I've been doing really well not purchasing products for the last year until I use up what I already have- taking empties pictures has been my motivation to do so.

Re: Empties

I also haven't purchased many products this year. I even took a break from BT so as not to be tempted 🙂 It's so great to use up old stuff first!

Re: Empties

Isn't it amazing how motivating this thread can be to get you to use things up vs. just purchase, purchase, purchase.  I've started to look forward to dipping into my stash and using things up every bit as much, if not more, than buying.  Any standouts from what you tried in the past 2 months

Re: Empties

So late to the party with empties, but I'm thankful for this thread this month.  It was one of those months that I didn't feel like I finished much until I pulled out my empties bag from my bathroom cabinet and it was fuller than I expected.  This thread also definitely pushed me to finally finish up a couple of things I had kicking around for awhile.

I wrote reviews for all of my loves and nopes, but only some of my likes so if you have a question, feel free to ask!

Spoiler

Dr. Dennis Gross Facial Peels - These continue to be my favorite for exfoliating.  Immediate results.

Davines Love Conditioner - Davines continues to be my HG hair brand and I like the smell of this conditioner, though for my dry coarse hair I always give the edge to their Oi Line.

Davines Oi Conditioner - As mentioned above I love, love, love this.  I'm not sure I've ever found a conditioner this rich and my hair loves it.  The scent is pretty nice too.

Caudalie Vinexpert Serum - This is discontinued so I can't purchase anymore, but I really liked it especially since I was able to get it for a steal.   In general my skin seems to like Caudalie serums and I like the scent and how they feel on my skin.

Dry Bar Bay Breeze Hydrating Shots - Love using these once a week (well, more likely when I remember) for added moisture.

Mediheal G.R.P. Wave Forehead Patch - I found this a nice option for when I really just want a sheet mask to lessen the appearance of forehead lines.

Darphin Perfecting Body Scrub - This had a really nice almond scent I liked and did a nice job of exfoliating my body.  I loved using it before shaving my legs.  That said, I got it for a steal on clearance at Marshall's and I'm not sure it's worth the full price.

Laura Mercier Oil Free Tinted Moisturizer in Nude - I've tried many different complexion products over the years and always come back to this because I love how subtly it enhances my skin and how well it blends in.

Ole Henriksen Camomile Comfort Mask - I got this as a part of the power peel set and really like it.  It has a really soothing, creamy texture and a lovely almond scent.  It feels really nice over the peel.

Eucerin - I have yet to try a bad Eucerin product.  It's no frills but my dry skin likes it.

Everything in this bunch was good but didn't wow me.  In particular I was surprised by the Skin Inc Hyaluronic Acid and Ceramide Serums (which didn't seem to do anything special for my skin and didn't last long enough to really see any results) and the Omorovicza Rejuvenating Night Cream (which was definitely good but didn't seem to justify the price to me since it didn't seem significantly better than other night creams/masks).  All the sheet masks were good but with so many out there I tend toward variety.

Spoiler
I didn't care for Julep's Rethink Your Shower at all.  It seemed very thin to me and no where near as moisturizing as I expected.  I also have Laura Mercier Whipped Souffle Body Creme in Créme de Pistache in here, though I was torn on whether it was a like or a nope for me as it was on the edge.  I could never decide if I liked the scent of this.  It smelled more like cinnamon than pistachio to me and some whiffs smelled good where as other times I got an offscent.  (Though I did get compliments when wearing this.)  It's also just not hydrating enough for me.  It seems like only a slight step up from a Bath and Body Works lotion, which were never enough for my skin.  This Keim's shampoo is also probably borderline, but was nothing special to me.  And the lip gloss was super old and in the bottom of a purse so it seemed time to toss along with a promotional nail polish I knew I'd never use.

Re: Empties

I need to work on finishing up some of my sheet masks before the year is up.

PS: I love how you have bath bombs in a glass apothecary jar. So pretty!

Re: Empties

Love the davines oi line! Almost done with my conditioner, going on 2 years. I dont mind the price at all for something that goes that far.

Re: Empties

I agree with you.  I've noticed a big difference in my hair since using it.  I try to switch it up with Devacurl to make the price sting a lot less but it's so worth it.

Re: Empties

Great reviews. Bummer on that Laura Mercier Souffle. I'd be pissed if I paid that much for one step above B&BW quality. It's something I've wanted to try, but I think I will pass on trying unless I magically get one as a GWP or in a set.

Re: Empties

I can't complain too much because I found it at Nordstrom Rack so I think I got it for 1/2 off, but I don't think I could justify full price.  But I expected it to be...better.  Though in hindsight I associate LM with more cosmetics products so I guess I shouldn't be so surprised that the body care seems to be just ok.  I did also get a set of hand creams though so I'm hoping those will be genuinely moisturizing.  The little jars are super cute though and I'm curious to see if any of the other scents in the line will be better.

Spoiler
Dress Code Blue mask: sticky and not hydrating
Too Faced concealer: all wrong colors
Tarte BB primer: cakey, weird texture/pigment interaction
Whish cleansing oil: waaay too silicone feeling
l'Occitane Light Comforting Cream: too fragranced for my face, I used it on my neck to finish it up
Julep cleansing oil: too heavy/greasy
Algenist moisturizer: it had PINK SHIMMER IN IT wtf Algenist. It did say "optical brightening" or something so I might have guessed, but I did not think Algenist would be a brand for random sparkles. Just no.
Lancome cream: too much fragrance and alcohol
PTR 24k Prism cream highlighter: way too dark for me, and also just an odd product. It's like a really moisturizing radiance primer, but it's SO shimmery it looks like it should be a highlighter... but it's the wrong texture (I think) to be using over base makeup instead of under... so confusing.
Cargo mascara: hated the applicator. It was one of those X things where the bristles are only in 4 ridges and don't go all the way around the brush. Ew.
Too Faced Lip Injection: made my lips burn, had to take it off immediately and they felt raw and stripped for almost a half hour. Common reaction apparently. Huge nope.
