What makeup is everyone wearing today? Today I am wearing: 1. Benefit Hello Flawless Foundation in Champagne 2. Benefit Coralista blush 3. TheBalm Mary-Loumanizer 4. Dior Creme de Rose Lipbalm 5. Dior Addict Lipstick in 454 6. Benefit Creaseless Cream shadow in RSVP and under all this I am wearing Neutrogena Pure and Free Liquid Sunblock SPF 50 So c'mon now...confess!
How about a little spin on "what are you wearing"? I'm putting myself out there right now with a not very flattering "before" and a much more forgiving "after." Come and join me in some transformation magic! Before: After: The Tools:
I searched around and saw storage but not many vanities. I just got my vanity in today, I'm probably going to get a chest to store everything else, because these drawers are small! They also don't open all the way. This is my set up for now. Whats your set up like?
--closed-- Box of awesome high end items and unicorns, show me yours and I'll show you mine, lol. While I’m not “ancient”, I’ve been on BeautyTalk WAY longer than I ever expected and have made some very good friends….as well as been enabled into getting WAY more makeup, lol. It is getting a bit overwhelming and as much as I like pretty things, my style is more minimalist, so I don’t reaaally need 6 or 7 jars of Guerlain meteorites etc. To help revamp/reorganize my stash as well as having some fun with the awesome friends I’ve made, I’m doing the LUV TB. It contains lots of makeup that I love but never use, altho I couldn’t bear to part with any perfumes or majority of the skincare, so you ladies will have to make up for it along the way. Keep it classy, with high end and preferably new or lightly used things. No drugstores. Since it’s got tons of expensive items, I asked people I trust who are interested, so the box is closed. If it goes well, I may do another one next year when I've accumulated enough treasures. =P Expand below to see the rules, taken from the awesome roxystar4 and slightly simplified: Spoiler (Highlight to read) * Please make sure every item is in a plastic ziplock bag to prevent spills. The other day I had the following exchange with my husband and I thought you all might appreciate it! Husband - (gestures towards dresser where I have about 40 bottles of perfume displayed) "Do you ever look at all those bottles lined up and think, 'I have a problem'"? Me - "No." Husband - "Huh." Me - "Do you ever look at your one bottle of cologne in the bathroom cabinet and think, 'I wish I had more variety'"? Husband - "No." Me - "Huh." I find that this theme repeats itself often. My husband has 5 pairs of shoes (black and brown dress shoes and 2 pairs of sneakers) where I have... I don't know and you can't make me count. My husband has about 5 pairs of jeans and a dozen t-shirts, whereas I have vacuum bags of clothes under the bed to swap out seasons because they're not even close to all fitting in my closet or dressers. That man makes no sense. What about you and your SO?
I woke up today and saw a picture on Facebook: I liked a comment that said " Don't be so stereotypic.... Not all women take that long, for example, I take about 10 minutes to get ready!!! Yeah, whatever..... " Then curiosity got the best of me and I clicked on View more comments and there I found the most.. insane comment I've read in a while. " are you a woman? getting showered &dressed, a full face of makeup & perfect hair does not take 10 minutes. not in our world or any; I take ten minutes to hop out of bed to go to the gym. but I don't look appropriate for work or an evening out - since your profile picture is a man, I can assume you take ten minutes to get ready but for some reason can't share your beautiful, all done in ten minutes self on the internet.... hmm " It made me cringe that someone would comment something like that. I love makeup so much but to have that kind of reasoning - to me it's just so so wrong. I'm sure most of you ladies would agree too. Here's my message: We don't need makeup to be beautiful. We are beautiful. But the most important beauty is not physical, it is inner beauty - that's what shines through. Don't forget to smile, smile at a stranger because it can change their whole day. I may sound so cliche right now but it is what I feel. I remember walking by an elderly woman and she smiled at me and I couldn't help but smile back and that brightened up my gloomy mood. Don't let magazines or what you see on TV dictate what beauty is - we will never be happy with our looks if that were the case. Please have a great day. “No matter how plain a woman may be, if truth and honesty are written across her face, she will be beautiful.” ― Eleanor Roosevelt “The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mole, but true beauty in a Woman is reflected in her soul. It is the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she knows.” ― Audrey Hepburn “Beauty shouldn’t be about changing yourself to achieve an ideal or be more socially acceptable. Real beauty, the interesting, truly pleasing kind, is about honoring the beauty within you and without you. It’s about knowing that someone else’s definition of pretty has no hold over you.” ― Golda Poretsky
Any ideas on what to do with gently used or swatched makeup? Until VERY recently I did not live near a Sephora, so I would buy stuff, swatch it, not like it, or like it but never use it, and never bother to send it back. (I was in Alaska) You can't sell "used" makeup on ebay, even if it was only swatched with a q-tip. So I have an accumulation of unloved makeup and no idea what to do with it, all past the 30 day return period. Anastasia contour pallet, Naked 3, Return of Sexy pallet, Kat Von D lipstick, and so on. Not to mention a whole box of samples I will never use lol. Any ideas?
My Kat Von D trunk is bursting at the seams. I just wonder how deep the drawers are ,do they look classy and will they significantly improve my organisation . Apparently there's an expensive one Kim Kardasion ( cringeing just writing her name!)..uses.. Any info or recommendations would be grea! Thanks ladies!
So....after two months of hectic non-stop work, I'll actually get to have some free time! I'm going the Seattle Premium Outlets this weekend with some friends, and I've actually never gone to outlet shopping before. I know, I know. Any tips for the novice here? I noticed that their store listings has the following places: The Cosmetics Company Store Crabtree & Evelyn Designer Fragrances L'Occitane Perfumania Are these places a good place for deals? What's the quality/quantity like generally? TIA! <3
I know this may sound harsh, but I really dislike all drugstore makeup. I'm sure there are many products out that are of great quality, even better than some high end makeup, but I have never found a drugstore product that I have liked. I've tried primers, foundations, powders, eye shadows, eye liners, mascaras, lipsticks, lip glosses, and lip stains, but each product has left me disappointed. I've also tried makeup removers from the drugstore, but they also left me disappointed. Does anyone else dislike drugstore makeup? I've stopped trying drugstore makeup all together now because every product has left me disappointed; which led to quite a bit of money being wasted. I only get high end makeup now because I am rarely ever disappointed with my purchases.
Big KVD fan here. Just scored a backup palette of Gypsy a few days ago on Ebay. Also paid ebay prices for many of her palettes, a train case etc, all no longer available. I guess you could say I am officially obsessed with her line. Please say I am not the only here that breaks down on Ebay when the right item comes along at a "justifiable" price. lol

So two nights ago I decided to pull out all my lippys and take a sorta inventory on colours and items that would be useful for summer looks. I ended up sitting there with cotton pads and systematically applying and removing one after the other, deciding if I would wear each colour this season or not. I must say I'm sitting pretty with quite a few bright summery lippys. the colours I deemed too dark were shuffled to the back of my drawer. i ended up putting six lippys aside for either my mother or my sister to pick at if they choose cause I thought they were mistakes for me. In the end I feel much more organized, with a better sense of what I own and my lips are super exfoliated from all the swiping and wiping. how do the rest of you keep track of your inventory? Or do you? It just occurred to me that I should have been disinfecting my lippys as I went.... Oh well.
I don't know if it's just me but over the years of makeup trial and error I have finally discovered the brands that work well for my skin and don't break me out. This being said, I am now trying to be much more savy and responsible with my money and wait for big sales (like the Tarte 30% off friends and family) vs the Sephora point perks. On the other hand, it saddens me I will miss out on the point perks as I would have NEVER tried Kate Somerville without the 500 point perk being available and two of her products have CHANGED my skin! The flip side is other 500 point perks have broken out my face and I felt were a complete waste. I just feel like with the high end brands I enjoy and crave, I must be smart with my money.

I was just looking through the "What Are You Wearing" thread and looking through the list of products I suddenly realized I very rarely use concealer under my eyes anymore. It used to be one those "will not leave the without it" items. It got me thinking back to a moment many, many, MANY years ago at a Clinique counter... I can't remember what I was shopping for (probably super double face powder because that was my HG back then. I think I was around 20 when this story happened - I'm 39 now for reference.) So anyway, the sales lady was trying to upsell me on a bunch more products of course (which, I was 20 and in college - good luck getting blood from that stone, lady) and this is what she said to me word-for-word: "Honey, you're gorgeous but those dark circles are distracting me from the rest of your face." Whhaaaaattt??? I honestly can't remember how I reacted or if I bought the product I went in for originally. I know that I did NOT buy any concealer though! Have a couple more to post but BT is being super iPad unfriendly lately! I don't want to open up any wounds with this post. Just hopefully dumb stuff SAs have said to you that you can look back on and laugh about now!
I have a pretty comfy makeup station and I do love me my products and I pretty much use everything from soup (primer) to nuts (setting spray). But I've noticed that instead of getting faster, I'm just getting slower and sloooower in my makeup application. I really enjoy the process of putting my makeup on - it's probably my favorite part of the day. But I feel like it's taking me a ridiculously long time to do my fairly simple everyday look (I don't vary how I do my makeup TOO much from day-to-day). So I used the timer on my phone for the past three days: 42, 50, and 52 minutes! Yikes! You ladies have seen my makeup. Nothing on my face should take 52 minutes! I know I take a long time doing my eyebrows - they're always a trouble spot for me. I'm going to TRY and speed myself up over the next few days so I can at least have more time to walk my dog in the mornings before work. So I'm curious...how long does it take YOU to do your makeup?
Are there any particular products/brands that you are completely loyal to? Ever since I discovered Josie Maran's brand 3 years ago, I have not switched my skincare. That is really saying something, because I am a beauty product junkie! Also, I'm super loyal to WEN since switching to it over 2 years ago. What beauty products/brands are you loyal to and would consider your ultimate holy grail?
We've all been there...a bag full of unused or disappointing make up from the drug store, which I still like but without the ability to try before buy you end up with a lot of fails. Then you find Sephora and wonder, is the price worth it? You try a few things, you like a few things, you see the price tag and tell yourself: "Eh, I can go with ramen noddles for a week to afford this." And then you buy it. What was your first purchase? Why did you choose it? I always like hearing other stories like this. Share on!
I was at a friends last night and we ended up watching episode after episode of hoarders which was shocking and frightening at the same time. Today I read a comment asking to see my makeup collection so I pulled out my palettes out of their respective drawers for a photo and realized I have more than I thought. Also I realized how anxious I was about my hubby coming up and seeing how many I own. needless to say, they went back very quickly! I'm wondering if this is too many or if I'm just sitting pretty. I do use them all save for the nars ones. how many palettes do you own? do you use them all?
I know there are many ladies on here that qualify as beauty addicts and product junkies and I was wondering, "How do I compare?" So let’s take a count (if you dare)! How much do you have? Foundations/TMs – Primers/Luminzers - Powders - Blush - Lipstick/lipgloss – Eyeshadows – Eyeliner - Multi-use Palettes -
I am sure we all have some products that we use the most and then we "run" to Sephora (or other stores) to repurchase and stock up on it, with a thought - "Just in case or I am about to finish up my other one, so I might as well pick up a back up now... etc" . What are your most used products, the ones you know you'll go and repurchase no matter what? Mine are: - Anastasia Brow Wiz - ohh boy - this is one of my little fave things that I use the most and I buy few of them a year, just because I use it so often. - Nars Creamy Consealer - does its job, so smooth and gives me the coverage I need! - When Travelmate face masque <3 - so amazing, portable, and travel safe/mess free!!
I've been on a massive Dolce spree lately... I tried their lipsticks and lip glosses and I'm in love! I also did my normal Kat Von D hoarding as well this month with all the new lippies. So much so, that I haven't yet did my normal Nars round up. Is there a particular brand that you have been snatching up lately anytime you have a couple of bucks in your pocket? What is the brand and how much do you think you spent on your brand addiction? And what do you love about it?
