LUV TB: Lost Unicorn for VIBRouge Traveling Box
--closed-- Box of awesome high end items and unicorns, show me yours and I'll show you mine, lol. While I’m not “ancient”, I’ve been on BeautyTalk WAY longer than I ever expected and have made some very good friends….as well as been enabled into getting WAY more makeup, lol. It is getting a bit overwhelming and as much as I like pretty things, my style is more minimalist, so I don’t reaaally need 6 or 7 jars of Guerlain meteorites etc. To help revamp/reorganize my stash as well as having some fun with the awesome friends I’ve made, I’m doing the LUV TB.    It contains lots of makeup that I love but never use, altho I couldn’t bear to part with any perfumes or majority of the skincare, so you ladies will have to make up for it along the way. Keep it classy, with high end and preferably new or lightly used things. No drugstores. Since it’s got tons of expensive items, I asked people I trust who are interested, so the box is closed. If it goes well, I may do another one next year when I've accumulated enough treasures. =P   Expand below to see the rules, taken from the awesome roxystar4 and slightly simplified:   Spoiler (Highlight to read) * Please make sure every item is in a plastic ziplock bag to prevent spills. PROJECT 10 PAN
Have you been buying way too many beauty products lately? Is your vanity overflowing with way too much clutter? If you haven't heard of the Project 10 Pan (which I believe started on Youtube, that's where I heard about it!), let me briefly describe what it is. You select 10 (or however many you'd like) products, whether it's makeup, skincare, hair products or all. You must finish these 10 products in its entirely (or "hit pan", where you have used so much of the product that you see the bottom of the "pan") before you are allowed to buy new makeup products. This really helps with appreciating what you have rather than buying more and more things, leaving older products you have to sit in the dust! *There are also exceptions, for example, if you run out of concealer... you can allow yourself to purchase another concealer even if you haven't completed the Project 10 Pan.   Is anyone else doing a Project 10 Pan?! I definitely needed to control myself after IMATS LA and tons of Sephora gift cards for my birthday and the recent UD sale! So, I started up my Project 10 Pan again two weeks ago! I'm determined not to be good and stick with it!   Here are my items that I've chosen for my Project 10 Pan:   1. Sephora Mineral Foundation Powder in Medium 25 - I've had this since March and I'm barely half way!! I use this daily. 2. Sephora Lip Gloss in Pink Ballerina - about half way through. 3. Clinique Lip Gloss in Bamboo Pink - about half way through. 4. NYX Lip Gloss in Beige - still have more than 3/4 of the product left! 5. Stila Liquid Eye Liner in Black - I'll finish this in about a month or so. 6. BADgal Lash - I have about half a month left til I need to throw it out. 7. L'oreal Voluminous Mascara - still have about 2 months til I need to throw it out. 8. Maybelline One by One Mascara - will be throwing this out in a couple weeks. 9. UD Primer Potion - I have two small samples, but I really don't know how long they will last! 10. ELF Blush in Tickled Pink - I haven't even hit pan with this! and any of my UD eye shadows in my Naked palette, which I haven't even hit pan with!   This will definitely take a long time to complete, but I'm okay with that because I really need to save my money and just enjoy what I have!   Let me know what your list looks like!

Which brands do you wish Sephora carried?
Exactly what the title says I know we've chatted about this before, but I thought I'd revive the topic with a new thread. With Chic Week coming up and new collections/products/lines dropping what feels like every day, what brands (collections, too, since Sephora's offering can be limited at the brand's discretion) do you wish you saw on shelves?   For me, it would be Chanel, Tom Ford, and YSL's Spring collection. Chanel's Illusion d'Ombres (cream shadows) and Glossimers (lip glosses) are calling to me with their siren song, as are Tom Ford's lippies, quads and contour palettes (however exorbitantly priced!!!). I love YSL lippies, so I wish the new colors got some love here at Sephora.    Oh, and while we're on the subject, ByTerry and Chantecaille wouldn't hurt, either! I adore both, and don't own nearly enough of either!

What type of mirror should I get
So for the longest time, I've been doing my makeup on the floor since it was more convenient at my parents house, and my last apartment just didn't have enough room for a table. Now that I am in a new apartment, I finally could get a table! What type of mirror should I get? I was thinking of either a wall mirror, or a vanity LED desk mirror.

Mall pet peeves
Okay so some of you know I went out to Mexico. Reason was for a dentist appointment, everything was done yesterday and today i'm in pain (not excruciating, but I don't want to touch my face much still).. I went to MAC and Sephora for two reasons.. Russian Red and some eyeshadows. Both sephoras have the same eyeshadows for the new artist shadow MUFE so I just started looking at other stuff. I ended up buying 'The real steal' which comes with the benefit they're real mascara and the they're real push up liner. YES, I wanted to try it and I'm not paying extra money for the liner Anyway, I was headed back to where I had parked and a makeup beauty stand in the middle of the mall stopped me, mind you i kept saying no but they pulled me in with their hurried insistance? that even a word? I'm pretty sure the brush they used to appy their mineral foundation was dirty, but I was wearing my glasses so when I took them off reluctantly I couldn't really see. He was so rough when applying that know my cheek where I had work done hurts. I just told them thanks and I'll buy something tomorrow when I get paid. They even told me I should return my sephora stuff to buy theirs.. what? .. Anyway, the foundation he put was like two shades darker than my skin. What was he thinking? Geez. One thing is other kiosks trying to lure you in, but when it's makeup ones.. ugh.

First impressions
After trying a product once or twice I usually have it sorted into three fairly ridged categories: love, no, or meh.   Once a product has entered the "no' opinion category it takes a lot for me to re-evaluate it. Recently, I've been trying to give things a better chance by playing with my primers. I always used to be of the opinion that if a product didn't work with the rest of my regular makeup routine, it wasn't for me.   Most recently, I've changed my opinion of Marc Jacobs Kiss Pops. The first time I used them, after reapplying I would end up with balls of product on my lips and I gave most of mine away. Using a hydrating primer made that product leap from my "no" to "love' list. What products have surprised you once you gave them another chance?

EMPTIES NO BUY CHALLENGE
Hello BT friends! May is just around the corner and I think it would be a good time to clear a bit of our stash this spring! Here are the rules.....   1. items must belong to makeup or skincare category ( haircare and bodycare items are too easily used up) 2. Use up TEN full sized makeup/skincare items 3. put empties in zip loc bag ( you can put start date and end date on baggy if you wish so that you can see how long it takes you to use up those 10 products) 4. NO SHOPPING unless you *completely* run out of something ( look around and see if you have foil packets or deluxe samples around first) 5. post your bag of 10 used up products here! Talk about the items if you wish and whether or not you would repurchase.   And.....go!

Have you ever bought a product despite laughing at its ad or not believing its claim?
Nails Inc has a new line of nail polish called NailKale. I was attracted to the colors before I even read the pitch about its supposed benefits. Bless Alexa Chung - that new ad for this product made me laugh! If you haven't seen it, check out the photos posted on Sephora's Facebook page. Nails Inc made her lie on a bed of chopped kale. Like a salad. I wonder if she channeled Zoolander. Green Kale instead of Blue Steel The photos are gorgeous of course and Alexa made it work. Still it reminded me of comedian Jim Gaffigan's rant about the Kale Propaganda.   I don't believe adding kale to nail polish will make any difference. However, I will still buy the nail polish because I like the colors. Have you ever done something like this?

What was your very First purchase at Sephora and Why take the plunge?
We've all been there...a bag full of unused or disappointing make up from the drug store, which I still like but without the ability to try before buy you end up with a lot of fails. Then you find Sephora and wonder, is the price worth it? You try a few things, you like a few things, you see the price tag and tell yourself: "Eh, I can go with ramen noddles for a week to afford this." And then you buy it. What was your first purchase? Why did you choose it? I always like hearing other stories like this. Share on!

This thought popped into my head this morning and I asked myself, "why do  i buy high end products?" Color IQ
I always thought I did an okay job matching my foundation shades- weather in a drugstore or in a sephora. I would always swatch on my jawline and pick which one I thought matched the best.   Last week, for the first time, I had the Color IQ done at a Sephora near me and holy crap I will never ever try to match my foundation on my own again. The Color IQ match really did make a huuuge difference. My face looked flawless after the right color and foundation was applied.    Once my lovely tan fades (unfortunately) I will be back (albeit paler) to get my new color IQ!

Collections and Wife vs Husband
The other day I had the following exchange with my husband and I thought you all might appreciate it!   Husband - (gestures towards dresser where I have about 40 bottles of perfume displayed) "Do you ever look at all those bottles lined up and think, 'I have a problem'"? Me - "No." Husband - "Huh." Me - "Do you ever look at your one bottle of cologne in the bathroom cabinet and think, 'I wish I had more variety'"? Husband - "No." Me - "Huh."   I find that this theme repeats itself often.  My husband has 5 pairs of shoes (black and brown dress shoes and 2 pairs of sneakers) where I have...  I don't know and you can't make me count.  My husband has about 5 pairs of jeans and a dozen t-shirts,  whereas I have vacuum bags of clothes under the bed to swap out seasons because they're not even close to all fitting in my closet or dressers. That man makes no sense. What about you and your SO?

Shallow
I woke up today and saw a picture on Facebook:  I liked a comment that said " Don't be so stereotypic.... Not all women take that long, for example, I take about 10 minutes to get ready!!! Yeah, whatever..... "   Then curiosity got the best of me and I clicked on View more comments and there I found the most.. insane comment I've read in a while.   " are you a woman? getting showered &dressed, a full face of makeup & perfect hair does not take 10 minutes. not in our world or any; I take ten minutes to hop out of bed to go to the gym. but I don't look appropriate for work or an evening out - since your profile picture is a man, I can assume you take ten minutes to get ready but for some reason can't share your beautiful, all done in ten minutes self on the internet.... hmm "   It made me cringe that someone would comment something like that. I love makeup so much but to have that kind of reasoning - to me it's just so so wrong. I'm sure most of you ladies would agree too.    Here's my message: We don't need makeup to be beautiful. We are beautiful. But the most important beauty is not physical, it is inner beauty - that's what shines through. Don't forget to smile, smile at a stranger because it can change their whole day. I may sound so cliche right now but it is what I feel. I remember walking by an elderly woman and she smiled at me and I couldn't help but smile back and that brightened up my gloomy mood. Don't let magazines or what you see on TV dictate what beauty is - we will never be happy with our looks if that were the case. Please have a great day.    “No matter how plain a woman may be, if truth and honesty are written across her face, she will be beautiful.” ― Eleanor Roosevelt   “The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mole, but true beauty in a Woman is reflected in her soul. It is the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she knows.” ― Audrey Hepburn   “Beauty shouldn’t be about changing yourself to achieve an ideal or be more socially acceptable. Real beauty, the interesting, truly pleasing kind, is about honoring the beauty within you and without you. It’s about knowing that someone else’s definition of pretty has no hold over you.” ― Golda Poretsky

What to do with gently used/ swatched makeup?
Any ideas on what to do with gently used or swatched makeup? Until VERY recently I did not live near a Sephora, so I would buy stuff, swatch it, not like it, or like it but never use it, and never bother to send it back. (I was in Alaska) You can't sell "used" makeup on ebay, even if it was only swatched with a q-tip. So I have an accumulation of unloved makeup and no idea what to do with it, all past the 30 day return period. Anastasia contour pallet, Naked 3, Return of Sexy pallet, Kat Von D lipstick, and so on. Not to mention a whole box of samples I will never use lol. Any ideas?

Does anyone else dislike drugstore makeup?
I know this may sound harsh, but I really dislike all drugstore makeup. I'm sure there are many products out that are of great quality, even better than some high end makeup, but I have never found a drugstore product that I have liked. I've tried primers, foundations, powders, eye shadows, eye liners, mascaras, lipsticks, lip glosses, and lip stains, but each product has left me disappointed. I've also tried makeup removers from the drugstore, but they also left me disappointed. Does anyone else dislike drugstore makeup? I've stopped trying drugstore makeup all together now because every product has left me disappointed; which led to quite a bit of money being wasted. I only get high end makeup now because I am rarely ever disappointed with my purchases.
