Weekly Make-up Rotation

Has anyone been successful with a Weekly Make-up Rotation? If you haven't heard of this idea... it helps avoid using the same make-up products each and every day, without giving the rest of your makeup stash a chance! This is a great way to "shop your stash" and rediscover great products (you DID buy each products for a reason, right?! ) I love the idea of this because it helps get you out of your comfort zone and switch up your look each week. I know my makeup looks pretty much the same everyday for work... I always just reach for my NAKED palette. So, I'm up for the challenge!

Basically, you choose your makeup for the week (face, eyes, lips, etc) and switch it up with different products the next week, and continue each week after that! Of course it's okay to repeat some products - for example, I only use one foundation... so I will repeat that product each week. I thought this would be perfect to start early during the week so that we can really get a chance to complete it!

I've tried this before, but sometimes I'd be running late for work and end up reaching for my "comfort" products! I'm determined to stick to this!

Here is what I chose for this upcoming week:

1. SEPHORA Mineral Loose Powder Foundation in Medium 25 and Tan 26.

2. Estee Lauder Double Wear Concealer in Light Medium.

3. NARS Blush in Orgasm (I can't even REMEMBER the last time I used this!).

4. UDPP.

5. Inglot neutral eye shadow palette.

6. Bobbi Brown Long-wear Gel Eyeliner in Caviar Ink (I had trouble with this one last time. When I was in a hurry, my liquid pen liner was so much faster to apply than gel liner!)

7. Benefit BADgal Lash Mascara (I will be tossing this one out after this week! Project 10 Pan! Too bad I LOVE this mascara).

8. EOS Lip Balm in Summer Fruit.

9. NYX Lip Liner in Nude Pink.

10. MAC Wonder Woman Lip Stick in Marquise D' (haven't used this in awhile and I LOVEE it!).

11. Smashbox Lip Gloss in Brown Sugar.

I am SO SO excited for this rotation! I keep all the products in one place (make-up bag) to remember what I've chosen.

Once we're done, ladies, we get to put everything back and shop our stash for the following week! Can't wait to see your lists! Also, fill me in if you have been able to keep up with it =)

@kimmi i'm using the loose powder eye shadow =) i love it! i found it on sale... the new ones are way too expensive!! =(

@katie723  BE eyeshadows are really good.  Are the ones you've been using the loose powder or the new pressed powder ones?  The red gloss may be the peppermint one.  Like mother like daughter it sounds like lol.

@kimmi i'm glad dandelion looks good on you! even without a tan, at least you have pretty pink cheeks now! =) i haven't been giving my BE blushes much attention, so i have no comment just yet! i've been using the bag that the blushes came in more than the actual products lol! i do love their eye shadows though, i want moreeee! =)

ill keep an eye out for the philosophy glosses! =) i saw a couple yesterday in the store but they were different =( marshmallow and some other red one, i think! thats nice how your mom gave you things from her gift sets! my mom usually gets unwanted things from me! :'( the only things she'd buy in sephora are perfumes, moisturizers and sunscreen. MAYBE an eye shadow like every few years lol... she either wears this brown or purple sephora eye shadow everyday for work. (hmm, do you see where i get my one-eye-shadow-a-week from now?! LOL! )

@katie723 Dandelion is a face brightening powder, or however Benefit phrased it.  I've been using it as a blush, and it shows a good colors since I've lost my tan *sniff.*  I learned my lesson: no tan and BE Blush in Beauty do not mix well lol.  How are you liking your BE blushes?  The Philosophy glosses are amazing!!  If you're looking into some new glosses, add that to your list!  My mom gave me a couple of the items she didn't want from the gift set she bought, and that gloss was one of them.  She kept the Eggnog body wash and gloss.  Both smell EXACTLY like eggnog!

@kimmi i had to change up some of my products for last week, also. dandelion just doesn't show up on me as a blush... i'll start using it as an overall brightener, which i believe is what it is called? lol. so, i threw in a blush and used my liquid eye liner pen on most days!

the philosophy lip gloss sounds delicious!! =)

I must confess, I didn't use my rotation much this week, or any makeup for that matter.  I was sick and from that I was in one of those "I don't give a darn" moods lol. 

Perhaps this week will be better.  I'll come up with a rotation today or tomorrow and post it.

i kind of want to try nyx too but i really don't need anything... looking forward to hearing your thoughts! I like benefit dandelion as a highlighter but i hope it works well for you kimmi!

and as usual, i didn't wake up early enough to put on anything but somehow got to work 7 minutes early? I was so absorbed in work i didn't even put on chapstick cause i forgot to leave it at my desk. 

@katie i've always like rosebud and all the versions of it! between that and jack black, i can't decide! i use rosebud for my knuckles (in the winter) and under my nose (when i have colds)and that works great - i imagine the jack black balm would be awkward for that because i think it's a bit thicker/creamier and the rosebud is a great balm for dry skin too... so i can't decide which i like better!

@kimmi thats funny! thats exactly how we are, too! i think my bf was once very light-skinned (baby pictures are proof! lol), but hes been playing Tennis since high school and his color just hasn't faded. i could lay under the sun for hours and get a nice, caramel tan after a few days... but he just has to play tennis around 4pm for a couple hours and get super dark! ...making me look pale all over again! LOL. does your bf ever say he wished he was lighter like us? cuz my bf says that and i tell him i want to be like him

ohh okay, i was getting the setting powder mixed up with the spray. how do you like the spray? im still terrified of the razor sharp powder

definitely go to Ulta this weekend! its a must! treat yourself to NYX stuff for your bday!! don't forget to bring an ulta coupon!  check out the NYX lip liner pencils in Nude Pink and Peekaboo Neutral. Nude Pink is lighter than Peekaboo Neutral, but I use them equally. i can see how the Smashbox pencil adds up... at least you're enjoying it and getting your moneys worth!

i just looked up where to find the perfume around me, and there are two locations that carries them near me! geez! well, i really want to smell it again because i remember it smelling GOOD! mMm, i love Marc Jacobs Daisy! it quickly became my signature scent sounds like you got a good deal w/ the kenneth cole reaction! both my brothers have used that cologne and they really like it! i think ebay has really good deals, i've purchase 2 OPI nail polishes and a discontinued MAC lip stick and they were all authentic!

@katie723  You and your bf sound like me and my bf.  He's got some Cherokee indian in him (can't remember the percentage), and he stays tan.  His mom and papaw are the same.  So not fair lol.  I have to work to catch up to him, and all he has to do is walk outside and be a bit tanner.  Dang it lol.

The UD De-Slick Mattifying Powder does work, but I'm wanting to see which works better for a finishing powder, that or the Razor Sharp powder. 

Better than the UD Pencils?!  Dang!  And for that price, that's a really good deal.  My family and I are going to Kingsport on Saturday, and there is an Ulta there.  I may have to try and swing by there.  I've been using my Smashbox lip liner every day since it matches my lips well.  But using it everyday, I have to sharpen it at least once a week.  That adds up lol.  I've had it for a lil while now, but I am open to other options. 

My bf found the Pulse perfume at the nearby Sephora, which is one inside JCPenny's.  I've noticed that it has some things that I can't find online.  Besides the perfume, they had Kenneth Cole's reaction cologne, but I cannot find it whatsoever on the Sephora website.  Idk if I keep looking over it or what.  I've also seen Pulse at Belk's, but I think that is a southern department store.  It hasn't been out too long, so the stores may be trying to get more in stock.  I've noticed that Marc Jacob's Daisy tends to sellout, too.  Local perfume stores or outlets may have it.  Perhaps a trustworthy eBay store, too.  I ordered my bf's Kenneth Cole 4 piece giftset for Christmas off of ebay from a store that was a top seller and had practically 100% postive feedback.  When I got the package, I opened it to make sure I had the right thing.  I sprayed the cologne on a post it and it was the real thing!

@kimmi tell me how dandelion works for you! ive been packing it on since i cant really see it... hopefully it doesnt look bad to others! my skin is so fair now, also! i didnt get a chance to tan much this summer and ive been hiding my face from the sun anyway! my bf has a darker complexion than i do (he is the true filipino, im more of a super-pale filipino)... so im always jealous of his color!!

did the UD De-Slick mattifying finishing spray (?) not work for you before? and OMG, nyx is wonderful!! and so inexpensive! yes, you can find them at Ulta. i can personally recommend their Lip Liner Pencils ($3.50), Jumbo Lip Pencils ($4.50) they are sooo creamy!, Eye Shadows ($5/singles, $8/trios, $11/palettes) and Eye Liner Slide on Pencils ($8) which are exact dupes of the 24/7 liners, if not BETTER. and i've heard wonderful things about their cream blushes, eye shadow bases, super skinny/fat eye liner markers and matte lip sticks. let NYX be the next makeup line you try out! you wont be disappointed

by the way, where did you find your Beyonce Pulse perfume? i've looked at Nordstrom, Sephora, Ulta... and I can't find it! I don't even think Macys has it, but i could be wrong.

@jxw200  Yay for a rotation! lol  I've always thought starting a blog would be an interesting hobby, and congrats on starting one!  I'll have to check it out later.

@katie723  I purchased the dandelion powder yesterday!  Since I've lost my tan, my BE blush started looking kinda dark on me and my redness wasn't helping it any.  Then again, powder foundation wasn't helping control redness, either.  Anyway, I figured dandelion would work for my now "fairness." lol.  If you keep posting rotations with NYX products, I'm going to have to track them down and give them a try lol.  Are they sold at ULTA?

I am a bit nervous about swapping out my usual blushes for Benefit's Dandelion this week. It's a very subtle sheen of light pink... but I have high hopes that it'll give me a pretty natural "blushing" look at work. We'll see how it goes! ALSO, since I tossed out my old Stila Liquid Eye Liner pen, I have no excuse for having to use my new one every single day. That why I brought out my UD 24/7 liner and Bobbi Brown gel liner out to play this week. As a warning, if I'm in a rush, I WILL reach for my liquid eye liner pen!

i've been dying to get BE Nude Beach eye shadow because I saw a girl on youtube use it and it looked BEAUTIFUL! do you use it as a highlight color? or a lid color? i thought it was more brown, but its actually a light color right? i bought my first BE eye shadow at their outlet store near San Diego, CA and now i'm HOOKED!! i dont even find them to be messy at all.

i also have BE Hot Shot blush, but I have yet to try it. it looks so BRIGHT!! how do you use it and what looks do you pair it with?

i hate having to reapply my lip stuff, too! especially if i have to fetch a mirror and apply it at my desk. i've been relying on lip liners (all over my lips) to last me til lunchtime and keep my lip gloss in my pocket haha!

i know, thats exactly how i feel when i dont wear makeup! it sucks when people think you look REALLY tired, when actually you feel GREAT! right?! i also hate going to makeup counters without makeup because i feel like all the SA are staring at my blemishes and scars and wondering why im not covering them up HAHA! that is the perfect example of the Invisible Audience paranoia. I haven't tried Kiehls TM, but i do have a laura mercier tm, which i love. i agree it has great coverage, just enough for me to feel good. i even add more on top of scars or redness and it doesnt look cakey. im sure we are just over-thinking things and worrying about the littlest things. lets help each other become more comfortable with minimal-to-no makeup on casual days

@jxw200 i think ive pushed my Laura Mercier TM aside because i'm DYING to finish my mineral foundation for my 10 pan! LOL! oh right, i have seen Lisa Eldridge's video on covering blemishes... i was amazed!! geez, well... when i visit Chi-Town, i want to go there

katie you should definitely try a tinted moisturizer! and some concealer - actually watch lisa eldridge's video on covering acne! it's impressive what she did without tons of product. i got the clarisonic mia and a sephora brush... yay. anyway woodfield was at one time the biggest mall in the country (before mall of america existed and all that). i was curious and i just looked it up and it's apparently 2.7 million square feet of retail space and currently the 5th largest mall in the US.

I'm trying to focus this week on using some eyeliners that I haven't touched in a while.  I hope to play with some new techniques.  I'm stuggling a bit with using lip stuff.  I should just stop buying lip products all together, because I only use Korres Lip Butter.  I hate lip stick and gloss because I hate reapplying it all day.

Katie- I get tired of doing my entire face sometimes. The problem with wearing makeup everyday is when I don't, people tell me I look tired!  I hate hearing that!  Have you tried Kheil's tinted moisturizer? I've started wearing that on the w/e instead of a full face of foundation and concealer.  It's thicker and provides a bit more coverage than your avg foundation.  I don't feel so bad about wearing that- but I have to wear something most of the time becasue like you I too have acne scars and my skin gets really red sometimes .

thats a smart idea about going to a farther mall for a less crowded sephora!  ive never heard of woodfield, but that sounds scary if its one of the busiest malls in the COUNTRY! wow, i wouldnt be able to deal with that! did u buy anything?!

im waiting for my sis to tell me what she thinks about the philosophy oxygen mask... i might buy it if it works for her!

anyway i have only been to one sephora inside jcpenney... it's funny because i suddenly had this urge to go to sephora (want to look at brushes) and i'm making my boyfriend go with me to a mall that is further away that has a nicer sephora and probably won't be as crazy as the mall 5 min from his house (it's woodfield, one of the highest traffic malls in the country!) lol

@waterbaby, after you told me you were rocking your post-workout, post-shower glow... i got inspired and decided to hit the gym yesterday morning! my brother and i went to the mall right after the gym and i felt GOOD without makeup! especially after a good workout, i just felt good all over!

@kimmi, nice! ill keep the concealer in mind LOL i hate waking up late!!!

@jxw200 wow, i wana go to all my sephoras now!! LOL! i dont think ive been to two of the five here in Orange County. I usually go to the one in my JCPenny or the one in my boyfriend's city. the Sephora at Downtown Disney is really nice, but parking is a pain. the best Sephora here is in a high-end mall, South Coast plaza everyone is SO nice!

i envy your relaxed workplace!! thats so awesome that you've only worn makeup a few times in like 2.5 yrs!! lol! two years ago, i only wore mascara and eye liner to work. not even the good mascara or eye liners... just whatever was around! HAHA. now its very business-like since im interning in mid-management and i feel like ive got to put my best foot forward! when i first started, i just wore translucent powder, but then i started breaking out and i started wearing powder foundation.

i went to the mall w/o makeup yesterday and i felt GOOD! i went to target and the mall today w/o makeup and i felt terrible!! my hormonal acne is scary! lol!! its all good though

 i used timebalm ages ago (when i was freshman in college!) i really liked it at that time. perhaps i'll check it out again sometime! most of the stores around here don't carry thebalm. (i think only 1 store in all of chicagoland... and that's sad because i've been to all but one freestanding sephora store in chicago & the suburbs. gosh i have a problem lol!)

i think it's great that you guys are going light on your makeup! I totally know what you mean feeling uncomfortable if you don't have your usual amount of makeup on. i'm really glad i'm in a very relaxed workplace where a) there are few women and b) i'd say about half of them wear makeup and those that do are super super natural. I think i've worn makeup to work like 3 times lol in the 2.5 years i've worked there. and one time was after i got a makeover at the nars counter last year LOL so that was more makeup all at once than i wore ever to work combined lol. (okay maybe i've worn tinted moisturizer a handful of times too)

hmm. i have to think of a rotation next week. but i probably won't wake up early enough for it anyway!

@katie723  My TM was what's in the tube.  TheBalm concealer, one of them,  is in a pot.  I've been using it for a full week now, and I LOVE it!!  I like it much better than my Smashbox one.  I don't have to use as much of it compared to the Smashbox one, and it blends well. 

I didn't wear makeup today because I woke up late lol.  I could have sworn that I turned my alarm, but I woke up on my own an hour later.  I've been wearing a full face all week, too, so my face was probably thankful.
