Weekly Make-up Rotation

Has anyone been successful with a Weekly Make-up Rotation? If you haven't heard of this idea... it helps avoid using the same make-up products each and every day, without giving the rest of your makeup stash a chance! This is a great way to "shop your stash" and rediscover great products (you DID buy each products for a reason, right?! ) I love the idea of this because it helps get you out of your comfort zone and switch up your look each week. I know my makeup looks pretty much the same everyday for work... I always just reach for my NAKED palette. So, I'm up for the challenge!

Basically, you choose your makeup for the week (face, eyes, lips, etc) and switch it up with different products the next week, and continue each week after that! Of course it's okay to repeat some products - for example, I only use one foundation... so I will repeat that product each week. I thought this would be perfect to start early during the week so that we can really get a chance to complete it!

I've tried this before, but sometimes I'd be running late for work and end up reaching for my "comfort" products! I'm determined to stick to this!

Here is what I chose for this upcoming week:

1. SEPHORA Mineral Loose Powder Foundation in Medium 25 and Tan 26.

2. Estee Lauder Double Wear Concealer in Light Medium.

3. NARS Blush in Orgasm (I can't even REMEMBER the last time I used this!).

4. UDPP.

5. Inglot neutral eye shadow palette.

6. Bobbi Brown Long-wear Gel Eyeliner in Caviar Ink (I had trouble with this one last time. When I was in a hurry, my liquid pen liner was so much faster to apply than gel liner!)

7. Benefit BADgal Lash Mascara (I will be tossing this one out after this week! Project 10 Pan! Too bad I LOVE this mascara).

8. EOS Lip Balm in Summer Fruit.

9. NYX Lip Liner in Nude Pink.

10. MAC Wonder Woman Lip Stick in Marquise D' (haven't used this in awhile and I LOVEE it!).

11. Smashbox Lip Gloss in Brown Sugar.

I am SO SO excited for this rotation! I keep all the products in one place (make-up bag) to remember what I've chosen.

Once we're done, ladies, we get to put everything back and shop our stash for the following week! Can't wait to see your lists! Also, fill me in if you have been able to keep up with it =)

i shook my too faced shadow insurance before i opened it the other day and i liked it! =) 

maybe i'll try a weekly rotation this week? the idea is daunting lol!

oh you were going through the same thing, also?! glad yours worked out! mine is still in my drawers... i want to finish up at least on of my UDPP sample bottles first!

Alright, here is my rotation!

Out: E.l.f. Blush, UD palettes, Maybelline One by One Mascara, EOS Lip Balm & Benefit Lip Stick in Skinny Dip.

Stayed: SEPHORA Mineral Loose Powder Foundation, Estee Lauder Double Wear Concealer, UDPP, Stila Stay All Day Liquid Eye liner, NYX Lip Liner in Nude Pink, Clinique Gloss & Shiseido sun protection lotion (not pictured).

In:

- NYX eye shadow in Iced Mocha. This is great shade, similar to my favorite Inglot eye shadow but not as pigmented. I can just swipe it on quickly in my morning for work and run out the door!

- Three mascaras, so they all can get some use! L'oreal Million Lashes, Buxom Lash and UD Supercurl Curling Mascara. They all have plastic bristles and work really well. The UD one has a weird looking brush and I've only used it once, so I hope it does well this week.

- NYX Lip Gloss in Beige. Such a beautiful pinky nude gloss. I wear this to touch up my look throughout the day or when I get to school.

- L'oreal Lip Stick in Fairest Nude - this is my no-brainer lip stick that goes with everything. It looks fantastic with my Clinique lip gloss.

- Stila Sun Bronzer in Shade 01 - I was going to use my MAC Prism matte blush which is a Mauve-y color, but this one is a good replacement and is a bit more orange. I hit pan with this awhile ago, so I want to use it up!

- Benefit Dandelion Highlight Powder - I hit pan with this awhile ago also and would like to use it up! I pat this on the apples of my cheeks and on top of the bronzer.

I'm excited! It will be a quick and easy makeup look this week! =)

Fill me in with your rotations! It's been three weeks since this has started and I've been incorporating a bunch of products that would have been sitting in the dust if I didn't rotate them out!

On Saturday, I broke away from the Kat Von D palette I had been using so that I could try my mom's 5 color Sephora palette that was in neutral colors.  With the Fall weather that day, I was feeling kind of neutral lol.

Here's my choices for this week:

Face

• Smashbox Concealer
• TheBalm Balm Shelter TM in light/medium -I decided to stop using my Halo sample.  I'm not sure if it was breaking me out slightly or if it was school stress from Biology.
• UD De-Slick Mattifying Powder
• Bare Escentuals Blush in Beauty

Eyes

• UDPP
• UD 15th Anniversary Palette -I can't believe I haven't used this in a week lol.
• Rimmel eyeliner in Ivy
• UD 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencils in Zero and Whiskey -haven't used them in a while since I've been using the Sephora nano set
• UD Big Fatty mascara -went back to it after returning Buxum

Lips

• Smashbox Nude Lip Liner in Fair
• Sally's Beauty Supply Lip primer
• Kat Von D Lipstick in Cathedral
• Flirt! Glamorazzi Lip Lacquer in Pop Star
• Liplicious glos in Grape Fruit

Perfume: Kat Von D Saint Rollerball

Although I haven't worn the same look each day, I've been using the same palettes for the week.  I'm surprised I've kept up with that much lol.

This week it's my Chanel Vita Lumiere Aqua foundation, Laura Mercier Undercover Pot (hit pan but trying to get the rest finished up, LM Brightening Powder and LM Stardust finishing powder for my face.  On my eyes, it's Urban Decay Potion Primer in Sin, Clinique Pink Tweed Colour Surge Duo and Buxom mascara.  No eyeliner for once, but I haven't worn Pink Tweed in forever!  Almost forgot I had it until I dug around in my train case.  On cheeks, it's Clinique Fresh Bloom All Over Color in Posy and Clinique Twilight Nude on lips, with Long Last Glosswear in Bamboo Pink over it.  On days I wear eyeliner this week, it'll be Urban Decay's 24/7 Eyeliner in Corrupt.

I should get my 15th Anniversary Palette back out though...I can't believe I haven't been using it!

@kimmi1115  well i used to be OBSESSED with the Benefit Dandelion when I first started using makeup in high school... but you really can't see anything more than the softest pink shimmer, unless you pack it on. Then it just looks a bit chalky. So, I wouldn't recommend it since it's like $28?! I personally dont think its worth it. I'm really just trying to use it up right now! And thanks for the compliment about my makeup bag... I found it at TJ Maxx a few months ago for $13 =)

@waterbaby1981 you have the Long Last Glosswear in Bamboo Pink, also?! I seriously LOVE that lip gloss... I just wish there wasn't any shimmer to it. I need to take out my 15th Anni palette, too! I haven't used it in awhile and it such a good palette!

i like benefit dandelion as a highlighter, but i wouldn't have purchased it (I got it in the 500 pt perk recently) given that I have way too much stuff already. (and other options i like better)

so i think i will try the rotation this week! I managed to throw on mascara this morning! wohoo

This weekend, since I changed out purses for a day trip on Saturday, I won't be taking my Anniversary palette home with me.  Due to the palette size, I usually transport it in my purse since that seems safer for it than in a duffel bag.  The palette won't fit in the smaller purse I'm using this weekend.  So, I packed my Urban Decay Urban Ammo palette in my makeup bag.  I know that is breaking the rules, but it's within good reason lol.

Here's this week's rotation.  I believe this weekly rotation is giving each of my palettes a chance to be used instead of picking a color from here and there among palettes.  However, I have to at least pick a few different lip products and eyeliners still lol.

Face

• Smashbox High Definition Concealer in Light
• Dalton Mirage blending/finishing powder  -I received this as a gift when I graduated from high school last year.  It works as a foundation, but it can be messy to work with and the portability is not that great.  There isn't as much in it as I originally thought, but it'll still take a bit to get used up. 
• Bare Escentuals Blush in Beauty
• UD De-Slick Mattifying Powder (not pictured, I left it in my backpack)

Eyes

• UDPP
• Urban Decay Urban Ammo palette  -Mildew and Last Call make great colors for Fall
• Sephora Collection Nano eyeliners in Silver Green 11, Lagoon 17, and Golden Sand 07.
• Urban Decay Big Fatty Mascara
• Flirt! Eyebrow Gel

Lips

• Primer from Sally's Beauty Supply
• Smashbox Nude Lipliner in Fair
• Urban Decay Ultraglide Gloss in O
• Liplicious Vampire Vixen (Black Cherry)   -Can't resist Halloween theme items lol. 
• Liplicious Butterscotch Creme  -gotta love Bath and Body Works buy 2, get 1 free on lip products.  I also got the Night Time Recovery lip balm.

kimmi, how did your rotation go? I managed to wear mascara a few times! and my bf put makeup on me yesterday lol without any advice/instruction from me!

i'm back from hibernation jxw200, thats sooo adorable how your bf put makeup on you the other day!! i've seen youtube vids like that and those are like my FAVORITE!! how did it turn out?! my bf did my eye shadow when i started getting into it... and he actually did a good job =X hes very creative and artistic so... he took his time to really blend the colors LOL! i know he'd hate me for telling you all this hahaa. but it came out really nicely! i dont know how he'd do w/ eye liner and foundation, though. the thing with me is, i don't wear heavy makeup so its really hard to mess up!

i found a new lip combo and got a new eye shadow quad, so let me get my products and post up my rotation for this week =)

@jxw200  I haven't gotten around to taking a picture yet, but it's going well so far.  I'm using two palettes during the school week: UD's Rollergirl (for the neutrals) and Urban Ammo (love Last Call and Mildew as fall colors).  However, for the weekend/Fall Break, I plan on taking my Anniversary palette and Rollergirl Palette home with me.  It's a side tracked rotation this week lol. 

I'd be kinda scared to let my bf put makeup on me.  I'd be afraid I'd look like a KISS groupie lol.  But that's cool he did it correctly  

Katie sent me a message last week.  She's been busy with school and work.  Hopefully she'll return soon.

p.s. i saw that you own the rollergirl palette! =) its on sale right now and i was wondering if you'd recommend it?!

i have a million neutral eye shadows and the only UD shadow in that palette that i already have is Darkhorse. at least it comes with a pretty lip gloss and a brown eyeliner that i dont have!

@katie723  I love the Rollergirl palette!  And at the sale price, it's a great deal!  In my opinion, the neutrals they put together in this set go perfectly together.  I looked at the Urban Decay page on Sephora, and I noticed they don't offer a single of Darkhorse.  If you decided on this palette, it would give you a backup of that shade.  The bright pink Woodstock may look scary at first, but it can be blended down for a more wearable daytime look.  Verve is exclusive to this set, and it is beautiful!  Suspect makes a great all over lid color, too.  The eyeliner it comes with, Whiskey,  cannot be bought as a single so far.  It mainly comes as a mini or you can get a full size one in the eyeliner duo set that comes with Flipside.  The lipgloss that it comes with isn't too crazy either.  I'd say it could probably be worn over shades of pink lipstick to create a unique look. 

For the price and all that's included, I think it is a great deal.  I've fallen in love with the neutrals in it.  I like them better than the neutrals in the Anniversary set lol.  Hopefully, UD will be smart and sell them as singles lol.

How do you like the Butter London polishes?  I've yet to try one, and the only place I've seen them around here is at Ulta.  As a nail polish collector, I've thought about adding at least one to my collection.  China Glaze has taken over that department lol.

Anyway, here is my rotation for the week =)

For Face:

-I started using my Laura Mercier Oil-Free Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20 in Bisque and I just love how easy it is to apply in the morning.

-It gives a light-to-ALMOSTmedium coverage, so I still use my Estee Lauder Double Wear Concealer SPF 10 in Light Medium.

-I use my Sephora Mineral Loose Powder Foundation to set the concealer.

-I've recently started bronzing my face with Stila's Sun Bronzer Powder in Shade 01. I'm totally seeing the pan!

-Finally, I apply my E.l.f. Blush in Tickled Pink on my cheeks (I hit paaaaan! wooooot!)

For Eyes:

-UDPP.

-My new Clinique Colour Surge Eye Shadow Quad in nude shade, received this in a Free Gift with Purchase set

-I stopped switching out my different mascaras each week and just started rotating them everyday. I'm using the Buxom Lash (favorite!!!), L'oreal Voluminous Million Lashes in Blackest Black (pretty similar to Buxom Lash) and Lancome Hypnose Drama, which I used to love, but for some reason this sample tube isn't as great as I remembered.

-Trying to finish up my Stila Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner in Black, I love this stuff and it lasts foreverrrr.

For Lips:

-NYX Jumbo Lip Pencil in Soft Fuschia. This stuff is SOO creamy and wonderful!! It's like a huge pencil with a lip stick consistency.

-Estee Lauder's Pure Color Lip Gloss in Extravagant Pink looks beautiful over the lip pencil.

For Nails:

I'm going to get my nails done in two hours =) For my fingernails, I'll be getting OPI's Dulce de Leche painted. It's a beautiful nudey-pinky color. For my toe nails, I'll be getting this bright, beautiful pink by Butter London called Primrose Hill Picnic painted. I'm excited! I'll show you guys how it turns out afterwards... well, maybe not my toes because that's kind of weird/gross??

@ katie It actually went well! he did try to put on eyeshadow  with a concealer brush (very similar shape to an eyeshadow brush though) but that worked okay lol and he figured out it wasn't quite  right. it was a nice natural look! How do you like the laura mercier oil free? I think i like the regular version better, in ters of blending, etc. That's sad cause i feel like the regular one is sticky! So i'm torn! that's a pretty butter london polish! Kimmi you should try them! I've only tried a few but i think they're great! My local nordstrom carries them too. =)

i think i'll come up with a rotation later. I did manage to put on makeup today though wohoo!

@jxw200  You should post something about your bf doing your makeup.  That would be an interesting read to see all the responses.  My boyfriend has painted my toes before, and he actually did a pretty good job.  I was worried he'd just paint all over my toes, but he didn't lol.  He did a pretty good job with the crackle, too lol.

@katie723 OPI polish for 2 bucks?!  That's a great deal!  I usually get my China Glaze polishes from Sally's Beauty supply since I have the Beauty Club card.  One of my favorite discount cards lol.  I think you'll really like the Rollergirl Palette.  I'll probably end up wishing I had ordered another one for backup lol.

I forgot to post my rotation lol.  I've mainly been using my Rollergirl Palette.  I've not worn too much makeup this week since I've not been feeling well.  However, next week I'll get back into the habit.
