Weekly Make-up Rotation

Has anyone been successful with a Weekly Make-up Rotation? If you haven't heard of this idea... it helps avoid using the same make-up products each and every day, without giving the rest of your makeup stash a chance! This is a great way to "shop your stash" and rediscover great products (you DID buy each products for a reason, right?! :smileywink:) I love the idea of this because it helps get you out of your comfort zone and switch up your look each week. I know my makeup looks pretty much the same everyday for work... I always just reach for my NAKED palette. So, I'm up for the challenge!

Basically, you choose your makeup for the week (face, eyes, lips, etc) and switch it up with different products the next week, and continue each week after that! Of course it's okay to repeat some products - for example, I only use one foundation... so I will repeat that product each week. I thought this would be perfect to start early during the week so that we can really get a chance to complete it!

I've tried this before, but sometimes I'd be running late for work and end up reaching for my "comfort" products! I'm determined to stick to this! :smileyhappy:

Here is what I chose for this upcoming week:

rotation.jpg

1. SEPHORA Mineral Loose Powder Foundation in Medium 25 and Tan 26.

2. Estee Lauder Double Wear Concealer in Light Medium.

3. NARS Blush in Orgasm (I can't even REMEMBER the last time I used this!).

4. UDPP.

5. Inglot neutral eye shadow palette.

6. Bobbi Brown Long-wear Gel Eyeliner in Caviar Ink (I had trouble with this one last time. When I was in a hurry, my liquid pen liner was so much faster to apply than gel liner!)

7. Benefit BADgal Lash Mascara (I will be tossing this one out after this week! Project 10 Pan! Too bad I LOVE this mascara).

8. EOS Lip Balm in Summer Fruit.

9. NYX Lip Liner in Nude Pink.

10. MAC Wonder Woman Lip Stick in Marquise D' (haven't used this in awhile and I LOVEE it!).

11. Smashbox Lip Gloss in Brown Sugar.

I am SO SO excited for this rotation! I keep all the products in one place (make-up bag) to remember what I've chosen.

Once we're done, ladies, we get to put everything back and shop our stash for the following week! :smileyhappy: Can't wait to see your lists! Also, fill me in if you have been able to keep up with it =)

Re: Weekly Make-up Rotation

@sephoramusthave  You may be the one with the power to revive this thread and challenge! lol.  I slacked off majorly lol.  It looks like a fun rotation, though!  I've been wanting to try more of the Benefit boxed powders.  I love my Dandelion one!  It has a pretty good dent in the middle of it now lol.  I just don't know which boxed powder to try next.

Re: Weekly Make-up Rotation

Early today, I started packing for Spring Break.  After French class, my make up quiz from Monday, and gluten-free shopping, I can go home!  Here's the items I picked to use for the break.  I'll be using them this weekend, through the week, and the next weekend.  I threw in a couple of other things into the mix just to have a nice amount of choices for the various things I have planned.

I did have a picture of the rotation, but the image uploader is not working for some reason.  I'll post a question about it in the BT feedback thread.

Face

  • TheBalm TimeBalm Concealer
  • Clinique Moisture Surge TM
  • Tarte Smooth Operator Finishing Powder
  • Benefit Dandelion  (a nice spring time pink!)

Eyes

  • UDPP (my tube is so close to running out!  I have a backup in the vintage bottle that came with my Urban Bride kit.)
  • Urban Decay Naked Palette
  • Kat Von D Art of Elysium Palette in Kimberly  (in case I decide to use some vibrant colors)
  • Covergirl Instense Shadow Blast Cream Shadow in "some pink shade" lol  (First cream shadow I've tried in years.)
  • Urban Decay 24/7 Liners in Woodstock, Perversion, and Whiskey
  • Rimmel eyeliner in Ivy
  • Maybelline Great Lash Lots of Lashes mascara (it gives a doll lash effect)
  • Maybelline Falsies Mascara
  • Covergirl Professional Super Thick Lash Mascara (this has been amazing!  I was very surprised at how well it worked on my lashes.  I love the brush and the handle for it.  It seems that drugstore mascaras work better for me, and I can't figure out why.)
  • Maybelline Clear Great Lash Mascara as a Brow Gel

LIps

  • Sephora Waterproof Retractable Lip Liner in Nude (I think)
  • NARS Lipstick in Cruising
  • Kat Von D Lipstick in Celebutard (looks more pinky on me compared to Cruising)
  • Urban Decay Lipgloss Junkie in Midnight Cowboy
  • Victoria's Secret Beauty Rush Lipgloss in Taffy Go Lucky

Beyonce Pulse Perfume

Re: Weekly Make-up Rotation

I haven't been using an established rotation lately.  I guess with the back and forth weather, my makeup choices have been going back and forth, too.  However, when I pack to go home for a full week for Spring Break, I'll be taking certain items for my rotation.  Until then, the next few days will be pick and choose lol.

Re: Weekly Make-up Rotation

@waterbaby yikes, listeria in cantelopes? AHHH! goodness i can't imagine how you feel right now.

i haven't been able to handle a rotation lately, but i did manage to wear eyeliner and a little foundation to work once a week or 2 ago. lol i'm trying to come up with a go-to look that's fast and easy and maybe i'll have a rotation that will actually happen....

Re: Weekly Make-up Rotation

Kimmi: typically, 75% of women get morning sickness.  I haven't been tossing my cookies into the toilet yet, but that may be due to the Zofran (anti-nausea medication.  A gift from God, I swear).  It usually starts around 7 weeks and goes through the end of the first trrimester...or that's what happened until about week 16 though last time.  When I had Alyssa, a lot of cravings were for sweets, like Oreos and Cinnabon cinnamon rolls.

Unfortunately, now I really want orange juice and cantaloupe (healthy sweets, at least), but I'll have to go to the store for it.  The cantaloupe I won't get though.  There was an article yesterday online about cantaloupes that are contaminated with listeria and were sold around the country, which is VERY VERY BAD for a pregnant woman.  13 states have already reported outbreaks and deaths (mainly elderly), but it can cause miscarriages and such in pregnant women.

Funny thing is, a lot of stuff I don't remember happening until I actually hit those stages again.  Pregnancy brain must be kicking in again.

kimmi1115

Re: Weekly Make-up Rotation

@waterbaby1981  I hope your morning sickness stage passes over quickly.  I don't remember what my mom said about her morning sickness when she was carrying me.  I do remember when she told me her cravings, and, of course, dad had to chime in about that lol.

waterbaby1981

Re: Weekly Make-up Rotation

Figures.  Between insomnia, morning sickness and no energy, I've been using tinted moisturizer and the naked palette instead of what I put down for the rotation.  No eyeliner, either.  Easier to do minimal makeup and wear bright lip colors (Raspberry Rush for the win!) for the time being to draw attention away from the dark circles from lack of sleep I'm sure I'm starting to get.

So the revised list has:

Naked palette in place of UD Anniversary

Nars tinted moisturizer in place of Chanel foundation

waterbaby1981

Re: Weekly Make-up Rotation

I haven't done the rotation or at least stuck to it for about two weeks now...sorry everyone!  Just wearing tinted moisturizer because I'm waking up so late in the mornings recently and I'm sure partly due to this pregnancy.  I just don't seem to be really into wearing makeup lately.  Maybe I'm mellowing out a little on it?  But here's the rotation I'll do my best to use this week:

Supergoop Save Face Moisturizer SPF35+

Laura Mercier Oil Free Primer

Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua foundation

YSL Touche Eclat

LM Brightening Powder, Translucent Loose Powder

UD Afterglow Cheek Tint in Fetish

UDPP in Eden

UD 15th Anniversary palette

UD 24/7 eyeliner pencils (depends on eyeshadow)

Buxom Amplified Lash mascara

Chanel lash primer

Nars Dolce Vita or Sex Machine

UD Naked lip junkie lip gloss

Re: Weekly Make-up Rotation

This past week, I didn't have a set rotation.  I think I used a different eyeshadow palette each day lol.  Since my bf has to work on Valentine's day next week, he and I are going out on Sunday.  So here's the rotation options I'm taking home for the weekend tomorrow.  Kind of Valentine's Day inspired.  I hope to do my nails this weekend if I get the chance, too.

Re: Weekly Make-up Rotation

I did have an official rotation already planned out, but it will change tomorrow lol.  I'm going to pick up my new skincare products from the Clinique counter tomorrow, and pick up my free gift with purchase!  I love free stuff!  Especially since it will allow me to try more Clinique products.  I'm pretty much out of my Benefit face wash, so I wanted to try the small bottles of the 3 Step System.  Fingers crossed it will work so that I can cut back on the prescription face meds I use at times.

Re: Weekly Make-up Rotation

kimmi, i like the bubblegum scrub. i really like lush and the idea of hand made products without preservatives, etc. a few of the macy's in my area have lush shops in them, so maybe keep your eye out? (Or maybe you can call them/look online?)

kimmi1115

Re: Weekly Make-up Rotation

@waterbaby1981  Thanks for the info!  I will have to check that out.  The Lip Butters are making a difference, though, and the colors are very nice.  I don't blame you for not wanting to go into rush hour traffic.  I'd say it's worse there than the idea of traffic around here.  If I did go to the University of TN, I would probably major in road rage due to Knoxville traffic lol.

waterbaby1981

Re: Weekly Make-up Rotation

Kimmi: Lush is awesome.  The stuff they carry doesn't have preservatives in it and very minimal to no packaging.  Everything is hamdmade, too.  I'm lucky enough that we have two Lush stores in Portland, but if you check out lushusa.com, you should be able to see if there's a store near you.  Otherwise, you order online.  I can vouch for them though that they are awesome.  Their bath bombs, foot and hand lotions, and masks are the BEST!

Dang it, now I want to go to Lush.  But not in rush-hour traffic.  I-5's left lane from the Rose Garden on goes to a HOV lane from 3-6.  Yet not nearly enough people use it (or what it's intended for), while everyone else has to squeeze into two lanes (did I mention I-5 and I-405 meet right there and they all have to squeeze/merge into the other two lanes?)  Thus what would otherwise be maybe a 30 minute drive turns into an hour long one, minimum, when trying to get home on I-5 instead of taking I-205.

I should mention that 205 and 5 are the only two bridges for people that work in Oregon but live in Washington to get home in the Portland/Vancouver metro area.

kimmi1115

Re: Weekly Make-up Rotation

@jxw200  My Sephora inside JCP doesn't carry Fresh Sugar products.  I don't think I've heard of Lush.  Is it online only or do certain stores carry it?

@katie1724  I debated about getting Gumdrop, but I was iffy about whether I could pull it off or not.  I mainly wear various pinks and neutrals, but purple sounds like a whole other world lol.  I just now discovered a couple of reds I can pull off.  I think I'll take it one step at a time lol.

katie1724

Re: Weekly Make-up Rotation

@kimmi: I love the Revlon Lip Butters! I wound up with Tutti Frutti, Gumdrop, Raspberry Pie and Lollipop (they were buy one get one, I think). Of the three, I think my favorite is actually Tutti Frutti (it's a coral shade), even though I gravitate toward cooler shades. Raspberry Pie and Lollipop are pretty, but bright, and gumdrop (pale lavender) is too pigmented -- I thought it would be a pale, sheer shade, but it has a bit of coverage...and pale purple just doesn't work on my lips! :smileyhappy:

Re: Weekly Make-up Rotation

kimmi if you don't want to spring for fresh sugar lip scrub (which i enjoy!) you can get the lip scrub from lush that you can lick off! Lol

waterbaby, i didn't really like chanel eclat lumiere - it was a little cakey on me :smileysad: but i have that issue with chanel foundation/concealer products. i always liked ysl touche eclat, so it might be worth a try? It's the same price, right?

kimmi1115

Re: Weekly Make-up Rotation

@waterbaby1981  I think I have a couple of lip balms that have SPF.  I'll have to double check that.  This may sound silly, but I have never used a lip scrub before.  I hadn't even heard of it until I joined this forum lol.

waterbaby1981

Re: Weekly Make-up Rotation

@Kimmi:  Try wearing a lip balm or lip gloss that has SPF in it.  It really makes a difference, especially since a lot of us wear sunscreen, but don't necessarily think about it for our lips.  That and a lip scrub (homemade or otherwise; I like Fresh Sugar Lip Scrub and Laura Gellar Lip Strip) should help a lot.  My lips lately only really have trouble at night since my husband likes to keep the overhead fan on in our room as white noise.  Dries out my lips overnight, so my lips have been getting lots of lip scrub love from me lately.  :smileywink:
