Weekly Make-up Rotation

Has anyone been successful with a Weekly Make-up Rotation? If you haven't heard of this idea... it helps avoid using the same make-up products each and every day, without giving the rest of your makeup stash a chance! This is a great way to "shop your stash" and rediscover great products (you DID buy each products for a reason, right?! :smileywink:) I love the idea of this because it helps get you out of your comfort zone and switch up your look each week. I know my makeup looks pretty much the same everyday for work... I always just reach for my NAKED palette. So, I'm up for the challenge!

Basically, you choose your makeup for the week (face, eyes, lips, etc) and switch it up with different products the next week, and continue each week after that! Of course it's okay to repeat some products - for example, I only use one foundation... so I will repeat that product each week. I thought this would be perfect to start early during the week so that we can really get a chance to complete it!

I've tried this before, but sometimes I'd be running late for work and end up reaching for my "comfort" products! I'm determined to stick to this! :smileyhappy:

Here is what I chose for this upcoming week:

rotation.jpg

1. SEPHORA Mineral Loose Powder Foundation in Medium 25 and Tan 26.

2. Estee Lauder Double Wear Concealer in Light Medium.

3. NARS Blush in Orgasm (I can't even REMEMBER the last time I used this!).

4. UDPP.

5. Inglot neutral eye shadow palette.

6. Bobbi Brown Long-wear Gel Eyeliner in Caviar Ink (I had trouble with this one last time. When I was in a hurry, my liquid pen liner was so much faster to apply than gel liner!)

7. Benefit BADgal Lash Mascara (I will be tossing this one out after this week! Project 10 Pan! Too bad I LOVE this mascara).

8. EOS Lip Balm in Summer Fruit.

9. NYX Lip Liner in Nude Pink.

10. MAC Wonder Woman Lip Stick in Marquise D' (haven't used this in awhile and I LOVEE it!).

11. Smashbox Lip Gloss in Brown Sugar.

I am SO SO excited for this rotation! I keep all the products in one place (make-up bag) to remember what I've chosen.

Once we're done, ladies, we get to put everything back and shop our stash for the following week! :smileyhappy: Can't wait to see your lists! Also, fill me in if you have been able to keep up with it =)

Re: Weekly Make-up Rotation

I'm wearing the 15th anniversary palette with the Too Faced Glitter Glue underneath.  I'm a little annoyed with it, honestly.  it locked down my initial shadow, Midnight Rodeo, but did NOT lock down any other glittery/shimmery shadows.  I still have fallout on my cheeks (that REFUSES to be swept away with a fan brush) and it won't let me blend Deep End in the crease very well (i.e., not at all).  If I'm still going to have fallout when using 3-4 different shadow colors, this is going to have to go back.  Which means I get to drive all the way back to Clackamas Town Center or downtown Portland to exchange it for something else.  (Note I'm returning it....just making sure I don't miss anything that I really want when I go back.)

Other than that, UD eyeliner in Electric and Clinique Moisture Sheer Tint in Fair.

Katie:  I completely understand the wanting to let your skin breathe.  That's actually what I did yesterday...until I brought my haul home.  Walked in bare-faced to Sephora.  But I had that post-workout/post-shower glow too, so I didn't mind.  Still had my sunscreen on though!

@kimmi i like how we're always the opposite! it gives me a different perspective on things! :smileyhappy: is the TheBalm concealer in a tube? or was that ur tinted moisturizer? maybe i can try to get a sample in the store if its in a tube. I really enjoy my estee lauder concealer, but i know it will run out soon.

thanks waterbaby & runy for the tips about MAC and Nordstroms return policy. ill try to exchange my concealer soon :smileyhappy:

have you guys ever felt just completely TIRED of wearing makeup? for some strange reason, i got the feeling today of just wanting to take off all my makeup and letting my skin breathe. i feel like since i've been having events back to back on the weekends, ive been wearing a full face of makeup just about every day. ive also been trying to become more confident with less makeup when its not necessary to be wearing any.

so tomorrow, no matter where i go or who i see, ive decided not to put on foundation or concealer. i don't mind if people see my breakouts or scars... thats part of me and it should not outshine my personality, right? if anything, i'll just throw on eye shadow and lots of mascara. i will be keeping my hair nice and a feel-good outfit because if i keep my outfit and hair messy, along with a naked face... i'd feel sloppy and not so confident. anyway, that was really random. but, im just really not going to wear much makeup tomorrow and just appreciate my imperfections =)

Re: Weekly Make-up Rotation

I too shop at MAC at Nordstorms and they are serious about customer service.  So even if you can't return it, maybe you can get an exchange for the right shade or credit for another product.

Re: Weekly Make-up Rotation

Eh, I know there's stand-alone MAC store in Bridgeport Village just south of Tualatin, OR off of I-5, but since I don't normally wear their products (really, I have two MAC brushes and that's it...they also don't feel as soft as my Laura Mercier ones do either), I'm not sure of their return policy.  When I did get something, it was at Nordstrom.  Nordstrom return policies are great though.  It's preferable if you have the receipt to return something, but they also put a sticker on the box when it's sold, so if you don't have a receipt, you can still take the product in question back and they can pull up the original sale in their computers.

Re: Weekly Make-up Rotation

@runy  It sounds like UD needs to redesign the eye pencils.  I'd say people have said similar things on their site and Facebook page.

@katie723  I'm kind of the opposite, I tend to focus on my eyes more lol.  I just like being creative with the colors.  Lately, I have been focusing more on my complexion since I've been working on trying to figure out the right facial products.  I thought the Too Faced powder foundation would be the "one," but I'm not so sure now.  However, I do love TheBalm Time Balm concealer!  It does a great job concealing underneath my eyes and the blemishes that I've been battling.  I have a small acne scar on my chin from an under the skin blemish that was beyond stubborn, and Time Balm hides it better than the Smashbox HD concealer.

@kimmi, your reply made me laugh! :smileyhappy: how do i go thru a whole week w/ just one eye shadow? hmm, good question! hehe. i tend to keep my makeup really subtle and natural, to be honest! plus, i only give myself like 15-20 minutes each morning to do my makeup for work. i focus more on creating a flawless complexion... so i spend more time mixing my powder foundation colors into the perfect shade, concealing alllllllllllll my acne scars and setting the concealer. then i MUST put eye liner and mascara and SOMETHING on my lips. i always apply blush, but i could leave that out if i seriously had no time. eye shadow is a treat if i'm lucky and have a few minutes to spare =)

the past two days i haven't had time to put eye shadow on... not even my one color! haha! :smileyvery-happy: i think if i were getting ready for school or just hanging out, i'd put more effort into my eye shadows. but since i work with a majority of men and only one other girl wears eye shadow, im fine without it.

@waterbaby & runy how is MACs return policy? i think i have the receipt still but i bought the concealer like 3 months ago? the concealer is definitely too yellow for me :smileysad:

@runy, there is a Project 5 Pan thread! :smileyhappy:

Re: Weekly Make-up Rotation

I don't have a rotation this week, sort of still working off of last weeks.  I was traveling this weekend and came home Monday night, and Friday I don't have work, so it's a short week for me.  I will be doing a new rotation next week- there's SO many products I have that I don't use.  I need to seriously stop buying.  I don't think I can survive the 10 pan challenge, but I need to look into something similar!

Kimmi- Sorry I never got around to answering your UD shadow pencils question.  The other girls are right, they are hard to blend- which is probably why I don't use them as much.  And they are bright, but it can be played down by not dragging the product on your eye, but dotting it and blending (the very little that's possible). But my biggest gripe about the product is that it's super dry.  The week I bought it it was gliding, and a week later it was flaky.  It's usable, but not the best or most comfortable- I won't be buying more colors.

Waterbaby- I feel like the MAC girls always color match wrong.  I ALWAYS ask for a sample to go - and then try it myself at home.  I've found them to be wrong on several occasions, and the sample keeps me from dealing with returns.

@waterbaby1981  The clinique gloss has me really curious about their products!  It doesn't feel annoying sticky.  It's a softer texture compared to some other glosses.  My nearby Sephora in JCP doesn't carry their products, but the Belk in the mall does.  I've been keeping an eye out for the targeted redness corrector.  I think I'll need it more for winter time.  Any product suggestions that you really like?  I may have to do a lil bday shopping for myself at Belk lol.  Though I won't get any beauty points from there.  Dang it.

You just reminded me that I need to do some cleaning lol.  I've been swamped with school work.  I still haven't figured out why some professors think the only class you're taking is theirs, thus they dish out the work.  I wonder if yoga would help your back?  I've never tried yoga before, but people always say wonderful things about it.

Re: Weekly Make-up Rotation

[ Edited ]

Katie: I bought MAC concealer exactly once.  They color-matched me and did the concealer on me.  I bought the concealer and attempted to use it the next day....let's just say reverse raccoon eyes NEVER look good.  I still would like to know why they thought the lightest (practically white.  I may be porcelain fair but not Casper white) color they had would automatically match.  I've had excellent luck, however, with Dior Nude Hydrating Concealer and Laura Mercier Secret Concealer.  Both are more neutral than yellow-based (which is good for me, what with my pink undertones).

Kimmi:  Clinique gloss in Raspberry is one of my favorites!

My rotation for this week:

Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua (the Laura Mercier Illuminating TM is making my face look tan, which I am SO not and not matching my neck!  Ack!)

DiorSkin Nude Hydrating Concealer

Bobbi Brown Corrector

LM Secret Brightening Powder and Loose Setting Powder

Clinique Fresh Bloom All Over Color in Posy

UDPP in Sin

Clinique 12 color palette

UD 24/7 eyeliner (depends on the shadows, likely Stray Dog)

Sephora Full Action Mascara

Clinique Lipstick in Raspberry Rush (one of my favorite colors, especially if the rest of the makeup is natural or neutral.  It's a great pop of color)

Clinique Long Last Glosswear in Bonfire (another one of my favorites)

Clinique Redness Solutions Mineral Pressed Powder

I'm starting to become a little annoyed.  There's got to be something in the Chanel foundation or the Shiseido sunscreen that's irritating my face because I wore the TM and primer all last week with no problems (i.e., no flushing from the rosacea/reactive redness acting up.)  I wore both today since I was taking the car in (and therefore going outside) for an oil change and it started happening before I even left the house!  I'll have to not wear the sunscreen underneath (use the Supergoop instead) and see if that's the issue.  If not, it's the Chanel foundation.  Too bad, since I really like that one.  So lightweight, it feels just like a TM when you put it on.

I feel accomplished right now.  I've just cleaned the entire downstairs and will be tackling the bathrooms soon.  Maybe after a nap, since I haven't been sleeping well lately (have to use the BB corrector recently).  Will be doing some yoga at home later when Dan gets home from work...I'd rather not attempt dance class until I get the okay from my chiropractor due to messing up my back last weekend.  It feels normal, but my lower back (right where those two indents at the base of the spine are) still twinges and feels sore.

Re: Weekly Make-up Rotation

@katie723  Before I read the details, I thought that was a can of hairspray or something lol.  I don't know anything about MAC products lol.  Bare Minerals has some beautiful eyeshadow shades!  I still have a sample of Wildflower I used from time to time.  I still haven't figured out how you can stick with one eyeshadow throughout the week.  What is the secret?  lol

Here's my new rotation:

week.jpg

Face

  • TheBalm Time Balm Concealer in Light  -my new concealer from my F&F haul.  I've used it a few times so far, and I love it!  It covers better than my Smashbox one.
  • Too Faced Amazing Face Powder in Warm Vanilla  -also from my F&F haul.  So far, it has done a good job toning down my nose redness.  I think I may look into another face brush that can pick up more powder, though.
  • Urban Decay De-Slick Mattifying Powder  -may not need to use this until I switch back to TM.  Just have to wait and see.
  • Urban Decay All Nighter
  • Bare Minerals Blush in Beauty

Eyes

  • UDPP
  • Urban Decay Rollergirl Palette  -love the neutrals!
  • Kat Von D True Romance Palette in Truth  -I'm wanting to use the two purple: Prague and Galeano. Prague seems like a good Fall color.
  • Sephora Nano Liners in 17 Lagoon, 08 Iced Brownie, and 20 Wild Spirit.
  • Sephora Eye Pencil in 504 Purple
  • Too Faced Lash Injection mascara
  • UD Big Fatty Mascara

Lips

  • Smashbox Nude lip liner
  • Kat Von D Painted Love Lipstick in Cathedral
  • Avon Glazewear Shine in Mauve
  • Clinique mini 100 point perk in 02 Raspberry  -I really like it!

Not pictured: Beyounce Pulse Perfume

@waterbaby1981  My mom has a saying for when dad or any guy does something like that, or anything annoying:  "That's a man for ya."   lol.  I hope your back gets to feeling better.  A messed up back is something not to play around with.  I'm already in fear that when I graduate from college, someone in my family should get me a back surgery as a graduation present cause of the backpack load of books and my laptop case.  College is painful in many ways lol.

waterbaby1981

Re: Weekly Make-up Rotation

yeah, the switch I made actually turned out to be the UD eyeshadow pencils.  All the rest of the makeup was the same, except no eyeliner.  I used Midnight Cowboy and Rehab, which look pretty good once you get the hang of using them and blending QUICKLY before they set.  Finally got a good night's rest too, since my body was so exhausted from lack of sleep due to my back.  I think I fell asleep about 9:30 last night and woke up at 7:30 this morning only because Dan was making so much noise downstairs before he left for work.  And of course the ONE TIME I tell him to take the Camry (manual transmission), what does he do?

He took my Civic.  The automatic transmission and the one I can currently drive with my back messed up.  Yes, I'm slightly annoyed, but more amused than anything.  See, he has a meeting to be at when he gets there at 8 am and he now has to stop for gas in that car (the idiot light is on.)

"Do you have the Civic key?"

"Yes."

"You need to take the Camry today"

"Ok." (gets into the Civic and starts it up before I can stop him.)

Yeah, so somehow I'm not surprised.

@waterbaby1981  Then it's an expensive Crayola crayon lol.  There have been times when I make a switch in the middle of my rotation, too.  Actually, it'll probably happen tomorrow.  My sephora order from the F&F sale is supposed to come in this evening lol.

waterbaby1981

Re: Weekly Make-up Rotation

kimmi: I hadn't thought of it like that, but that's a pretty accurate term!  The first time I used Crash (that bright blue one?), it was REALLY bright.  And of course I have a picture of me holding my friend's daughter Emma and even though I'm looking down, you can definitely tell what eyeshadow color I'm wearing!

Haven't been able to sleep well though lately, so even though I have all the other makeup, I'm wearing Clinique eyeshadow instead today.  Softer and more subtle, so it won't make me look tired.  Halloween's over, so I don't think the zombie look will work too well!

kimmi1115

Re: Weekly Make-up Rotation

@waterbaby1981  Thanks for the info!  I don't think I'd like them if they set that quick.  I don't want to look like someone who had a lil kid color her eyelids with a Crayola crayon lol.

Looks like an awesome rotation!  Gotta love that 15th Anniversary Palette lol.  I've not tried any Clinique products, but I have the 100 pt perk of one of their glosses coming in with my haul.

waterbaby1981

Re: Weekly Make-up Rotation

kimmi1115: I'm not runy, but I have some of the UD shadow pencils and I don't find myself using them as much as I thought I would.  They're definitely very pigmented, as all UD stuff is, but I find them harder to blend (even with the blending brush) because they set so quickly.  It's also really easy to use too MUCH, seeing as they're crayons, so to speak, so you press harder than you intend to.  It takes a while to get the hang of the right pressure to use.

However, for my weekly rotation I'm using:

Laura Mercier Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer (gotta use that up!)

DiorSkin Nude hydrating concealer (works much better on my dry skin in the fall/winter, gotta use this, starting to get near expiry)

LM Brightening Powder and Translucent Loose Setting Powder

Clinique lipstick in Raspberry Rush or Berry Blush

Clinique Long Last Glosswear in Bonfire or Fireberry

Sephora Full Action Mascara

UD eyeliner in Zero or Bourbon

UD 15th Anniversary Palette

Clinique Fresh Bloom All Over Color in Posy or Quick Blush in Hurry Honey

Re: Weekly Make-up Rotation

Hey ladies,

Thanks for the warm welcome!  I looked through my stash yesterday, but also got quite a bit of stuff from my f&f haul.  So a lot of the items listed are new (for me).  I'll see if I can get a pic later.  I really love when you guys post pics.

Eyes

- UD 24/7 Glide On Shadow Pencil in Sin, Rehab, Delinquint (I don't even remember the last time I used these, how sad)

- UD Primper Potion in Greed (new)

- LORAC eyeshadow in Mango

- LORAC eyeshadow lavendar

- Sephora mascara

- MUFE Aqua Liner Navy (new)

- Stila liquid liner in Sequins (new)

Cheeks

- NARS Blush Taos

- MAC Just a Pinch Gel Blush

- BE Blush in Blushing Beauty, Charm

I think I may have left out one or two items, can't remember but will check when I get home!

kimmi1115

Re: Weekly Make-up Rotation

@runy  The more the merrier!  The Weekly rotation has helped me use products that may be used once a week, if that.  However, I still can't wear the exact same look each day lol.

@katie723  Chase is a beautiful neutral!  Probably my fav neutral from that side of the palette, along with Vanilla.  Looks like a fun rotation!
