Show me yours, I’ll show you mine series – Fragrances

Time for another one Smiley Wink

I thought I would create a series of discussion where we could all share our make-up stashes. This is just meant to be fun.

How it works: Just take a picture of the stash mentioned in this post and upload to the discussion board. Feel free to tell us what you like best.

Ok ladies time to share your stash for your fragrances!

This is the 5th in a series of post I will do.

Still to come: skin care, body care, hair care and brushes. Might do one with samples as well. Smiley Wink

For the new comers also check out the face, eyes, lips and nails series.

Not super super into perfumes but someone here on BT got me into Tokyomilk. You know who you are Smiley Wink Will be getting some shortly.

I prefer sweet scents for fall/winter like vanilla and fresh scents in the spring/summer.

Re: Show me yours, I’ll show you mine series – Fragrances

This isn't a current photo - it's from when I had the box custom-made but I only buy perfume oil from an online company (BPAL) and have a custom-made perfume and jewelry box. I can take a more current photo if anyone else is into BPAL (we tend to be kinda cult-ish about it. Smiley Tongue Smiley Happy0B1339A7-81F6-43E7-AB54-EF48E00A4BFB.JPG

Re: Show me yours, I’ll show you mine series – Fragrances

I'm dying to try out BPAL. Do you find that the website descriptions are accurate?

Beth, the lady that makes the perfumes writes the descriptions. Yes, they are generally note-accurate and if you keep notes on what you try, odds are very good you'll soon be able to predict what a particular blend will smell like on you. Perfume oils change with the wearer's skin chemistry and body warmth, so it'll smell a little different on you than in the bottle and likely very different on you than it does on me or your best friend.

Feel free to PM me with questions - I've been buying BPAL for over a decade. Smiley Happy

Re: Show me yours, I’ll show you mine series – Fragrances

I love hand blended perfume oils, but I haven't quite bit the bullet on the BPAL price tag, though there are so many I would love to try. I would also love to see a current picture!

Re: Show me yours, I’ll show you mine series – Fragrances

I can take a photo with my nice camera tomorrow, but with my iPhone, you can see that the collection has grown some. I tend to buy masculine type scents and avoid nearly everything with a floral component (migraines,) so my to-try list was also shorter to begin with.

You know you can get sample sizes to try out, right? (See second photo.)  They're much easier to spring for a few of - 6 for $22, if memory serves. Smiley Happy I've been buying these since 2003, so I don't collect them as quickly as some folks who buy BPAL. I love every one I've got, though.  I've tried hundreds of them - there's a very active swapping market on the BPAL forum and they always include extras in orders from the company.

Re: Show me yours, I’ll show you mine series – Fragrances

Ohhh nice! Where did you get that box your samples are in? (I am currently looking over the scent list with Mr. Husband, so an order might be in the near future.)

By the way, do you find their descriptions to be pretty accurate?

Re: Show me yours, I’ll show you mine series – Fragrances

Because it's straight perfume oil, your skin chemistry can change how a scent smells. Be prepared for things you thought you loved to be weird and things you would have never dreamed of loving being amazing (hi, patchouli and sandalwood, how are you? Smiley Tongue ) In the bottle/sample (they call samples "imps") the scent is very true to description - Beth, the lady who makes these, can make something that smells _exactly_ like an oak hallway and a cup of coffee. She's a magician, I have no idea how she does it. If it says it smells like "banana peels and graveyard dirt," take her word for it (and wonder who on Earth wants to smell like banana peels and dirt. Smiley Very Happy

The box that my sample sizes are in is an ammunition storage box from Amazon. Search for "MTM 38/357 Cal 50 Round Flip-Top Ammo Box" and you'll see them - they run about $9 each. Larger caliber/rifle ammunition storage boxes work well for storing the kind of fragrance samples you get from Sephora. Smiley Happy  (Weird re-purposing, I know. I'm a weird shopper when I hit the sporting goods store - I want a tackle box that will hold my sewing supplies and an ammo box for perfume samples. Smiley Wink

Re: Show me yours, I’ll show you mine series – Fragrances

That's genius!  I just put one of those boxes in my cart.

I only have 2 fragrances from BPAL and I'm almost afraid to use them because I don't want them to run out.  I have a Pumpkin Hard Candy imp and then a bottle of Pumpkin Latte from Halloween 2010.

If you have any foody scent suggestions I'm all ears!

Re: Show me yours, I’ll show you mine series – Fragrances

This year's pumpkin scents are still up (until Dec 1) and are all delicious. Sin in the Pumpkin Patch smells like the spiciest, best pumpkin pie ever.

Have you tried Eat Me (smells like cake) and Miskatonic University (coffee and oak and books)? How Doth the Little Crocodile smells like peppermint patties and Bliss is pure chocolate. Bread-and-Butterfly smells like buttered bread and sugar. Bon Vivant is champagne and strawberries. O is often loved - vanilla and honey.

I don't wear a lot of foody scents but they smell pretty good on my spouse. Elegba smells like the sexiest coconut macaroons (which is a strange statement, I know) and Perversion smells like the smuttiest of all bakeries to me (the actual notes are: Smoky rum, black tobacco, steamy leather, crystalline chardonnay, base of tonka.)

Re: Show me yours, I’ll show you mine series – Fragrances

Both my nerd side and my nose want to get Miskatonic University now. Smiley Very Happy

Re: Show me yours, I’ll show you mine series – Fragrances

Ooh ooh, the ammo box is on sale for $1.50 at optics planet dot com. Free shipping and you can pay with your amazon account, google wallet, or paypal.

Re: Show me yours, I’ll show you mine series – Fragrances

Thanks for the heads up. Smiley Very Happy

I love the ammo box for samples. I have so many fragrance samples. Thank you! Heading over to amazon now to have a look. Smiley Happy

Re: Show me yours, I’ll show you mine series – Fragrances

You're not weird... I use tackle type boxes for my jewelry.  It's awesome! Smiley Wink

Re: Show me yours, I’ll show you mine series – Fragrances

Glad to know that I'm not the only one that heads to the sporting goods section to organize my stuff. It's all so much more reasonably priced than organizers "made for" the stuff - and often holds more or organizes better.

Re: Show me yours, I’ll show you mine series – Fragrances

Me too! Smiley Very Happy Tried one for my makeup as well but the compartments were too small.

Re: Show me yours, I’ll show you mine series – Fragrances

Cool, I do have a little experience with perfume oils, but only a few that aren't in a carrier oil. (And that person who wants to smell like banana peels and dirt is probably Mr. Husband XD)

Sadly several of the scents I want aren't available as "imps", so I think maybe I will pick on and get a grab bag if I can sneak that into my budget. And maybe one of those ammo boxes too, cause the samples are overflowing.

Re: Show me yours, I’ll show you mine series – Fragrances

What are you looking for from the LE (that's Limited Edition) stuff? I might have some it hanging around. I do decant circles for new stuff for my friends and folks on the forum and sometimes have a few odds and ends poking around. Smiley Happy

Re: Show me yours, I’ll show you mine series – Fragrances

I was actually looking at some of the Carnaval Diabolique scents (which are listed in their Etsy store but not on their site). The one I will most likely spring for is The Grand Inquisitor's Heretic's Fork. Smiley Very Happy Great name and the description sounds awesome.

Re: Show me yours, I’ll show you mine series – Fragrances

The vetiver in that one is often agreed to be a little leather-y, my favorite kind. Smiley Happy

You can always PM me if you want advice or suggestions. Smiley Happy

[ Edited ]

Should be right up my alley then. Smiley Very Happy Should be a great way to get back into purchasing perfume oils after a hiatus.

And thanks, I will keep you in mind as my BPAL Guru. Smiley Wink
