It's lent again in the christian calender, and since I am a christian, I wanted to do something for it. I have recently become obsessed with makeup so I thought it would be good if I scaled back. Not only on buying, but also on using. I almost always wear makeup, even if it's just a little, so I thought that it would be a good thing, even it were only once a week, to not wear any makeup. So I'm starting No Makeup Mondays
On mondays, I won't wear any makeup. no tinted moisterisers, no eyeshadow, no lipgloss. I think it will help me recongnize my true beauty better. I want to realize that even if I don't have makeup on, and if I have a pimple, that's ok.
Does anyone want to join me on this? It doesn't have to be for lent, I know alot of people out there aren't christian. But I definatly think that our society places a big standard on what beautiful is, and alot of us follow that standard. But we shouldn't have to contour like crazy if we have a plump face, or be scared to walk out in public with a pimple. We should all recongnize that we are awesome the way we are.
You can use moisturizers, or lip balms, I'm going to allow myself that, but only if they are clear. And if you have to choose a different day, thats cool too, I just thought alliteration was fun.
Anyone going to join?
ps I understand that not everyone who wears makeup isn't confident, I still am and i wear it all the time, but we can all still benefit, and maybe be MORE confident when we see who we truly are

Hi!
My name is Kenzie Kramer and I'm a magazine journalism student at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. I'm actually writing an article about No Makeup Mondays and would love to talk to some of you about the pressure to wear makeup and how it feels to not wear makeup, why you do or don't wear makeup, etc. I'm a student so I guess there's really no incentive other than just helping someone out and doing a good deed. I would really love to hear what you have to say though! If you're willing to be interviewed please send me a private message.

That's a great idea! I will definietly join in
. This would be a good idea for youtube beauty gurus to do as well I think. That way all the young girls following them can see its okay to go without makeup!

This is an interesting challenge. I've endured remarks today of "Are you feeling well" (yes, thank you) to "Were you running late this AM?" (no) to "There's something different about you, did you get your hair cut again?" (yes, but last week). Oh well, maybe I actually do look better with makeup on. ![]()

I hope you kicked the people who made the first couple of remarks! Right in the shins too. ![]()

@kalex- I sure felt like giving out some swift kicks and not in the shins, either!
The one about my hair was from a guy, and he's clueless, unless someone showed up for work naked or nearly so, he'd hardly notice. The other ones were just snarky remarks, I consider the source. Actually I have a pretty tough hide as far as evil remarks go, I think the speakers were a bit ashamed to actually point out my lack of makeup so they took the low road.

By the way, how long does Lent last? Does it change like Easter?

Hi there prettyinpa....Lent starts on Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Thursday (Thursday before Easter Sunday). The period varies from year to year based on the date of Easter Sunday. It's a fairly solemn holiday; usually one gives up something (as a form of "repentance") for the entire period.

Thanks, anaa! I was wondering how long I had committed for after the fact. Sounds like a rigorous holiday, especially if you gave up something special.

@prettyinpa I was wondering the same thing!
@anaa Thanks for clarifying! You would thinking I too (like Katie!) would remember the dates and what not after so much CCD and religious upbringing haha glad I'm not alone!
I'm definitely missing chocolate (dark chocolate especially) but am glad I didn't give up makeup OR sweets.. I would be one miserable moderator.. LOL

@anaa: All those years of Catholic school / CCD, and I would have said it ended on Easter. Oops!

Hi Berniebeauty!
I did give up a few things for Lent in an attempt to focus more on things that are important and make a few "sacrifices", but makeup was not one of them!
I gave up all sugar entirely in an attempt to take better care of myself and my blood sugars and just overall health, the first few days were a challenge but after awhile.. I just don't miss any sweets! Better I don't since diabetes is NOT sugar friendly!
I tend to not wear makeup on Sundays and Mondays. I work late evening/night shifts these days and do not need to go to the office at all so it's nice to be a bit more relaxed and lounge at home more while being comfortable and taking care of Beauty Talk and some other outlets.
My skin sure thanks me for these days! I don't skimp on skincare but just anything with "colors" that can mask my real skintone, lashes, brows or lips. It's also nice to just wash my face quickly these nights and go right to sleep without trying to remove buildup of eyeliner smudged all over!

Hi berniebeauty,
I typically try to have at least one day a week in which I go without wearing makeup. I know a lot of people who refuse to leave their home without anything less than eyeliner, because of their own insecurities. Don't get me wrong I do feel a lot more confidant with makeup on...mainly because I look about 16 and sick if I don't have it on. There's nothing more annoying than getting carded for a drink...and having to also pull out an extra form of ID for a skeptical waiter or even worse...getting carded for a movie!
Plus I truly love the fact that makeup has the powder to enhance what someone has. Back when I worked more actively as a makeup artist so many clients would come in with the expectations that I could transform them into Megan Fox or Beyonce. So many people get caught up on what they don't have, failing to really play up what they do have.
I'm definitely down to participate, even though I usually go a day without makeup anyway. Maybe I'll opt for two days of being bare faced ![]()

I'll join you in No Makeup Wednesdays. I have clients in the office on the other days of the week and am expected to look professional. I know, looking professional shouldn't involve makeup, but it's expected and I don't want to get a lot of grief for it. On weekends I don't always wear makeup unless I'm going out to dinner or a concert, so those days wouldn't be much of a challenge.
Great idea!

I'm in the same boat. I wear much more makeup when I switched jobs. Not only do I need to look polished, I'm the youngest on the team so I do my best with makeup to look as mature as possible. Without it, I think my teammates would look at me like I'm a teenager lol. I think more makeup and dressing up also show that you take your job seriously - you're not just rolling out of bed and slogging to work. Having said all that, it's not cheap looking polished! Women should get a tax break on makeup for work!

I laughed at some of the comments I've read on here, especially the Catholic one! I'm Catholic and I ended up just giving up wearing ANY makeup for Lent, much less shopping in Sephora. I don't even plan on using the 15% off coupon that expires on Friday/Saturday (but we have lots of bills this month, grrr). However, I think I probably had an easier time of giving up makeup than most others on here. If you're dealing with 24/7 morning sickness, you really REALLY don't feel like putting it on. I'm just now FINALLY starting to get some energy back, but now insomnia is striking. Lucky me.
Then again, I didn't wear much makeup if any while in college. No one cares what you look like!

Good Job to all of you Girls who joined me!
It was a really good expirience, and I actually got to the point where I only wore makeup a few days a week.
an extra HAZA goes out to those who succeeded but kudos to those who were challenged. ![]()

I think I didn't say quite what I meant, I didn't mean you all were going to give me grief about needing makeup to look professional, rather my boss crabs when everyone doesn't look polished. ![]()
My brain races ahead of my typing!
