I went way overboard with purchases this month (2 orders with Sephora last week alone). So I decided to put myself on a "no-buy" for the entire month of July. Has anyone successfully done this before? I know I won't be able to read fashion and beauty blogs or open emails from my favorite stores, but any other suggestions?
Thanks!

@sephoramusthave oh nooo! my boyfriend would love you for telling me to go on a complete beauty no-buy for the month of October. i will give that SERIOUS consideration! haha
wait, does that include skincare and lip balms and such?!
@prettyinpa i appreciate that you are enabling me, i knew i could count on someone!
but i am really happy about my purchase and i received it in the mail two days later! yay! it's going in my bag of backups (which is really not big at all). oh, i know... some of the shipping from HauteLook is insane! I finally got the shoes I ordered for my bf after about a week, hair products after a week and a half... and i'm still waiting for this purse i bought... it's been like 2 weeks. i couldn't imagine waiting 3 weeks!! i'd just forget about it by then! i wish you the best of luck when the ties around your hands are cut in 6 days! ![]()
@tenggal yay, thank you!
i unsubscribed to the hautelook emails, too (and groupon...)! but someone tweeted about the NYX sale, so i started flipping outttt! i can only imagine amazing NYX deals on HauteLook. i'll just check it out on Tuesday and if there's a deal on the eyeliners that is too good to pass up, then i might have to take advantage of it! =X

@katie723: I did make a little note to remember to check out the NYX stuff on Haute Look this Tuesday. It never hurts to simply look, right? LOL! ![]()

I dont own anything from NYX but they do have an impressive collection in store. They have very very pretty lipsticks and eyeshadows but I havent bought any drugstore makeup in awhile because the lipsticks are usually smelly and drying and the eyeshadows usually have very little pigment. But if you guys like this brand then I'll absolutely give it a try after my September No Buy. I trust you guys SO much! I only have 2 drugstore makeup brands that I like and they are Burts Bees and Milani.

I'm not much of a spender when it comes to purses. I own 2 bags and I love them SO much and take them everywhere. ( One at a time, never both haha). I have a red Kathy Van Zeeland shoulder bag that doesnt look very big on the outside ( medium) but because its so deep it can hold SO much. Its made of this super durable plastic so it never gets dirty and I've had it for years and it still looks brand new. I also get tons of compliments on it whereever I go and I wouldnt give it up for the most expensive bag in the world. I got it at Ross for less than 50 bucks. Its this EXACT one in the picture. ![]()
I also have a Juicy Couture messenger type bag thats pink and made of material. It does get dirty sometimes but you can just throw it in the wash and it comes out super clean and virtually brand new. I asked for it for Christmas last year and my mom bought it for me. It was $100 at TJ Maxx. Its the exact same one as the picture. ![]()

Yes, I tried this in May. It didn't work out because IMATS LA was the following month and my birthday was the month after that (Sephora giftcards!). After all of that, I realized I DESPERATELY need to go on a no-buy! So, I'm on a no-buy right now... I've come up with another Project 10 Pan
but at the rate that I'm going (I basically go through mascaras the most... everything else lasts a long time)... I don't think I'll finish my Project 10 Pan unil the next IMATS! LOL.
I've realized that it doesn't matter of the quantity of my makeup collection... I don't need to keep adding so many things to my collection and pushing great products to the side. The Project 10 Pan will really help me value the great products I already have and by the time I need new makeup, I can just run wild in the IMATS showroom ![]()
Good luck to all you other ladies on no-buys! We can do it! ![]()

Oh help!!!
MAC has a new LE grey palette out with 4 gorgeous grey shadows in colors that I don't have, along with 4 LE new colors of Fluidline, my favorite gel liner!
I wonder if I can get someone to give this to me........ Let's see, my anniversary is nearly 6 months ago and my birthday isn't for another 5 months ..... Guess there's little chance I can find someone to give gifts for Labor Day........

Ok, ladies...it's official...I haved joined the "No Buy" wagon and I'm going to try not to fall off until after Christmas. Yes, I do mean until after Christmas.
Oh, I am going to make one possible exception, which is when the new "at home" gel manicure set comes out on the market in September I may get one. But I've already told my husband that it is an exception to my rule, but if I can stand it I am going to try and wait and let it be a Christmas present from hubby. It'll just depend on how my willpower is holding out when the manicure set comes out, ha ha. I am putting myself on a "No Buy" not only for makeup, but for clothes, shoes and purses as well. I am determined to stick to this cause if I don't I'll never hear the end of it from hubby! And I sure don't want to hear the old "I told you so" from him, ha ha! This no-buy is going to be hard while I'm on vacation, but I'm going to do it! When I get back from vacation I'll check back into the thread and see how everybody's doing. Good luck to all...talk to you in about a week...![]()

Oh boy! This past week have been very bad for my no-buy policy. I bought a saddle for my new horsie (talk about a hole in your budget!!) and some back to school items (from paper organizator to clothes). But the worst is in a tack shop. I went over top for my new mare, since it's my 1st "real" horse!! And then yesterday, I've been shopping in our favorite store!! I'm moving in the next couple of weeks (not that far from home - a 2 hours and a half drive) and there's no Sephora near my new place. So I went to buy some back-up (moisturizer, cleanser, tinted moisturizer) since I won't be home until Christmas.
So Tenngal, I'm so with you on the no-buy until that time!!! My bank account isn't loving me right now, so I need to do this: no make-up, no skincare, no clothes, no horse items, no books (I've spent way too much on this this summer!!), no nothing!!! I just hope my willpower is strong enough!!!!

@ohhenri- That no-buy for your horse is a real killer! I'm not sure I could do that!
I bought a pair of used paddock boots on eBay because I thought that nearly $200 for a pair of boots that I am going to get dirty and waterspotted within a week is insane. So I paid $40 for a nice nearly new pair, and when they got here, they needed new laces since the ends were frayed (I think the former owner never tied them up and walked on them too). I went to the tack shop for laces and ended up buying half-chaps & winter gloves (which were on clearance), some new saddle conditioner, a hoof pick, a new helmet liner, and the cutest jacket and ended up spending over $200!! Some bargain.
And don't start me on saddles, $2000 for an othopedic saddle for my buddy who has a bad back..I could get a lot of makeup for that.
I am not going to any horse show tack areas until the big show in February! (Just keep telling myself that.....)

I was on a no-buy kick for 3 months. I did it successfully and still read all the email and stallked my local sephora and online. I just kept telling myself I didnt need it. No one really needs makeup right? The past 3 weeks though I made 3 big purchases. And I'm glad I did ![]()
All in all its a matter of self control. I know you can do it!

@elipeanut: wow! You're my hero!!!
I broke my no-buy rule
. I bought 3 nail polishes (but, they're were on sale, it didn't cost me more that 6$!!).
I definitely have to stick to my no-buy policy though for the next few months because I just made a huge purchase: I bought a horse!!!!!!! So, no more money for make-up/skincare... Plus, I have so many back-ups I think I can last at least a year!! (But, where's the fun in that?!!!)

Ok, so I broke my no-buy. Before you throw rocks at me and call me names though hear me out.
The Sephora inside JCP sent me a mailer with an offer for a FREE (yay! free doesn't count as buying) 2oz Satsuma Body Shop showergel. I went to go get it and decided to "just look" at the Sale section, you know, since I was there anyway... and this catches my eye
http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P15
Moral of the story... RUN to your local JCP and snag clearance Dr. Brandt! "No-buy'"s be gosh darned. ![]()

So far I am doing ok. I am only buying what I said I was going to -- mostly. I said I was putting in two nail polish orders and that's what I've done! Ok-- so my husband then tells me that despite the fact that we discovered that his hair trimmer could be used for his goatee, he still needed the teeny tiny comb and the teeny tiny scissors for his mustache! So I went to Drugstore. com and ordered that set for him. But free shipping starts and $25 AND I had a $6 discount that was going to expire at the end of July.
So I bought:
1) Tylenol PM ( I work nights now and sleeping during the day gives me a headache, so this helps get rid of that AND helps me to sleep during the day)
2)Organix conditioner-- because I NEVER have too much conditioner ( what curly girl does??? Plus they had LAVENDER which is my fave and I can't get it around here)
3) Butter London polish remover. I'm looking for a nice smelling conditioning one to replace Deborah Lippmann's The Stripper. That stuff is AWESOME but it's like $16-$18 a bottle! I only got it the first time because I got a 50 % off discount!
My whole order only came to $21 and it was all practical stuff..... Right? RIGHT????

Definitely justifiable purchases! I had $7 in drugstore dollars so I ordered some beautyblender sponges since the one I'm using is getting funky looking. I needed more so it was a justifiable purchase for me as well. Besides, the purpose of a "no-buy" is to not waste money, and it would be wasting money to let drugstore dollars go to waste. Right? Logic. Logic is good.

@kalex & mermadelove: LOL! I love your logic...gotta use those coupons and bonus bucks and get free shipping...it'd be almost criminal to let those go unused! You think the same way I do! LOL!![]()

If shipping is $7 or 8, and you're only $13 off from it, it really is better to get another item you need than to pay over half it's cost for just shipping!!

@mermadelove- It's like throwing money away, you worked hard to get those coupons by purchasing in the past, right? So it's not buying, it's found money!![]()

It's ok, I think I broke the no-buy too. Clinique counter at Nordstrom just came out with a limited edition gradient blush (two colors melding into one!) and a black honey duo (color and a gloss in one), which NEVER happens. At least Clinique's what I normally use, and I really don't have a blush aside from Orgasm and UD cheek tint in fetish.
......it's a good reason, isn't it? Right??
