limp greasy hair

I am having hair woes.  I decided that I wanted to start taking better care of my hair and try to go the route of more natural products (not a prerequisite for recommendations) and it seems to have made my hair go crazy...Now, I know practically nothing when it comes to taking care of my hair, so I'm probably doing the opposite of what I should. The extent of my knowledge is that shampoo and conditioner are more effective when kept as separate products and not 2-in-1...

The products I have tried seem to make my once natural waves and body go flat, limp, stringy and way greasy.  I've been primarily trying volumizing products to try to get the wave and body back, but no such luck (e.g. Living Proof Full Shampoo and Conditioner, Bumble and bumble thickening shampoo and conditioner, Phytovolume Maximizing Volume Shampoo and Ojon Volumizing Conditioner).   I let my hair air dry and it's not chemically treated or colored.  My hair is thick (some of it coarse, some not), but the fullness/density is decreasing (which I miss).  My hair has always been on the oilier side, but somehow I manage to have a dry scalp.  I try not to strip my hair, so I only wash every other day.

Any product suggestions or routine suggestions?

I am not opposed to trying other products by the brands I listed, but I did not enjoy using the ones I tried.  Probably because they were the wrong products for my hair...

Please help!  I miss my waves and body :smileysad:

Hi there lili586,

My first suggestion for you? Alterna. Theres an amazing volumizing spray, UV protectant deep conditioning mask, and some fabulous caviar rich shampoos and conditioners. All of these are sulfate free and help to keep your hair bouncy, soft, smooth and frizz free without overdrying or weighing it down.

ALTERNA - Bamboo™ UV+ Color Protection Rehab Deep Hydration Masque ALTERNA - Bamboo Volume Weightless Whipped Mousse ALTERNA - Caviar Anti-Aging 3-Minute Shine Boost ALTERNA - Bamboo Smooth Anti-Humidity Hair Spray

Try also a good clarifying shampoo that will reduce oiliness and help to remove buildup too so you have a clear and healthy scalp that won't weigh down or dry the hair, so try the Carol's Daughter Rosemary Mint Clarifying Sulfate Free Shampoo:

Carol's Daughter - Rosemary Mint Clarifying Sulfate-Free Shampoo

and the Oscar Blandi Pronto Invisible Volumizing Dry Shampoo which can keep oily roots away so you won't have to overwash and strip your hair of its natural healthy oils. :smileyhappy:

Thanks Diana! Will these help with restoring my waves? Also, it seems some of these products are for chemically treated or colored hair. My hair is neither. Will they still benefit me?

Yes! They will still benefit and hydrate the hair and also help to keep it soft and protected from drying sun rays (even if its not colored!) You may also want to look into the Ouidad line which has some amazing hair products for curls, and my favorite, the Bumble and Bumble Curl Conscious Defining Creams which are not sticky and keep waves and curls in place without looking crunchy or feeling stiff. :smileyhappy:
