OILY! OILY! OILY!

(0) Hearts

I have oily skin and no matter what primer I use or powder my face is slick by 10am. I live in Texas which is extremely hot/muggy. I do have a good skin care routine and use the right moisturizers. I'm 35 and it's a blessing that most people think I'm 28 but I would like to finally use an oil control product that works. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!

I have the same problem when warmer weather hits in PA.  I definitely would switch to ALL powder products with the purist products possible like Bare Minerals.  If you are using a powder primer, foundation, and setting powder and applying with the right brushes, it is really going to help.  I used to do this all the time but am finding the powders are starting to show my eyes aging, so I recommend keeping the powder away from you eye areas unless you have no aging signs yet. You could use a foundation or brightener instead, like Touche Eclat. You can even use a bronzer as your setting powder, if you can still use it around your eyes without showing age.  I could until this year, unfortunately.

Hi TJJR,

I too have super oily skin and I live in Texas as well, so trust me I know your pain. As of right now I have been doing a combination of skin care and makeup items to help me and so far everything has been great. There is no way to stop the oil completely, but you can keep it away longer!

I make sure to cleanse, exfoliate, and moisturize daily. I also learned to put my moisturizer in the fridge, for one- the coolness of the product will help shrink pores for a while (short-term fix, but it helps!) I look for mattifying moisturizers or just one that is light-weight. At night instead of moisturizing I use Tarte's Maracuja Oil and this stuff is amazing. Never thought about fighting oil with oil, but trust me!

For makeup, on days that I know I will be super busy I use Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation which is very matte and full coverage, if you want a lighter coverage-I recommend Urban Decay Naked Foundation. Powder- I use MAC's Mineralize Skin Finish and I use Urban Decay's Deslick Makeup setting spray!

I have very oily skin too, I tried a bunch of primers/oil controls, the only thing that works for me (for daytime) is the shiseido ultimate sun protection and the pores no more by dr. brandt as a base, paired with the bareminerals matte foundation, It's been 7 hours since I applied my makeup and I don't feel or look shiny.

Here's a thread you may find super helpful. I posted a giant run down of various primers in different formulations (from water based to silicone/dimethicone based) and mattifying balms plus a powder that can be used to prime super oily skin under make up (as well as be used on top):

The silicone/dimethicone based primers (like Porefessional) and balms mentioned can also be used on top of make up to erase shine without disrupting wear of make up, relying on powder, or using blotting sheets.

Thanks for the link and recommendations, lylysa. Are the suggestions ones you've used before? I know I've used 5 of them and still ended up shiny unfortunately. Still searching for that HG. Would you change your recommendations any for oily skin w/o the pore problem?

Hi Tjjr! I really like the Urban Decay De-Slick line too. I think the spray mentioned below and the De-Slick Mattifying Powder would be a great combination. :smileyhappy:

Cheers!

Re: OILY! OILY! OILY!

Have you tried a setting spray? Like Urban Decay De-slick oil-control makeup spray?

And a setting powder? I like MUFE HD powder. But on Sephora, it says that it is new, so I am not sure if the formula is changed. But I still think its worth looking into.
