Ah, Dan!   A question for you that Boston stylists have been giving me mixed feedback on:

I have received 2 perms & 4 highlights in the past year (separately).  Upon moving to Boston, I asked a highly-regarded stylist for a consultation to receive a perm.  She said she would not dare perm my hair since I have blonde highlights.  (I am naturally dark-blonde).  I was told I would have to grow out my highlights if I didn't want to lose my hair with a perm.

Your thoughts?  Thanks!

Oh Jen! Put the perm rods down and step away from the Ogilvie! :smileyhappy: The real question is - are your highlights done with bleach or color? Perming over bleached hair is usually not a great idea. If a hairdresser is concerned about the condition of your hair before performing a chemical service you should probably listen to them. I recommend trying out a fun styling tool, like the T3 SinglePass Whirl. This will give you those beautiful waves and curls without damaging your hair.

Hello!

I wanted to know what your take on hair and nail vitamins are and do you think they really help? I'm trying to grow my hair out but with all the heat processing I do (with a heat protectant!) I still end up chopping a few cm's and could use some extra tips on growing my hair. Is there a favorite hair mask you recommend for fragile or thin hair?

Thank you! :smileyhappy:

Hi there! I do believe that hair and nail vitamins for growing healthy hair and nails. In fact my wife takes these every day. However, if you are using damaging hair tools you are probably undoing any good that the vitamins are doing. I recommend investing in a good set of tools (like T3) first and foremost - and you won't even need a heat protectant!

Hi Dan!

I bought the Featherweight 2 back in January and I love it! I just ordered the diffuser attachment yesterday (can't wait to get it!) and I was wondering if you had any tips and tricks for using it?

Thanks! :smileyhappy:

I am SUPER excited for you - the Featherweight 2 Dryer is the best dryer I've ever used with a diffuser. I would try twisting a few pieces of hair, especially in areas where hair might get frizzy, before using the Diffuser. This will give your curls a softer, wavy finish.

Which is the best method for creating loose volume waves for longer hair? I mean like almost down to the waist long. I've tried but my waves look a little crisp.

Hi! I would use a clipless wand like the T3 SinglePass Whirl to create big, loose, natural looking waves. It's perfect for long hair.  Be sure you are using a super fine hairspray like Bumble Spray de Mode and if waves look at all crispy you can brush them out with a boar bristle brush.

Why thank you! I am a big fan of PhotoShop. :smileyhappy: I use Sachajuan Ocean Mist on my hair when it's wet, then follow it up with a little bit of hair wax like Bumble Styling Wax. Perfecto!

Hi there! My best advice for staying healthy from head to toe is to eat well, drink tons of water, exercise and get 8 hours of sleep every night. xo

Hi Dan! I work out junky and I try to refrain from washing my hair everyday after my workout. How often should I be washing my hair? Would you recommend dry shampoo?

Hi! I love dry shampoo for prolonging a style. How often you wash your hair is totally up to you - when people start to avoid you at the gym, it's probably a good time! :smileywink:

Only kidding! But if you are washing your hair often, just install a shower filter like T3 Source. The chlorine in your shower water is what is damaging your hair when you wash it regularly. T3 Source will remove the chlorine and other impurities from your shower water.

Also if you are using a good, ionic dryer like the T3 Featherweight 2, you can wash and blowdry your hair as much as you'd like without causing damage.

Hi Dan -

I am trying to grow my hair out, however, I color it often and use hot styling tools daily. Any recommendations on how to keep it looking healthy?

Thank You!

Hi there! My number one recommendation is to install a filter for your shower. This will remove drying, damaging chlorine from your shower water which will make your color last longer, keep your hair more hydrated and allow you to grow it out. Your skin will also look and feel softer and healthier too. I have a T3 Source Showerhead in every shower in my home. It's made a huge improvement in my hair and my skin!
