There are so many different treatments to help dark spots and melasma. These ingredients should address tyrosinase to help reduce melanin production. I generally recommend that clients use Melarase PM Arbutin in order to reduce pigmentation without harmful concentrations of hydroquinone. Some online platforms try to sell compounded high dose HQ which has some limitations. In general, apply a non-irritating cleanser, wash your face, apply Melarase creams, and reduce skin inflammation. I advocate the Lutronic LaseMD and the Clear and Brilliant laser with Melapeel if exfoliation is needed. Our director likes the Melapeel for his rapid exfoliation protocol. #melapeel #melarase #melanin, #melanocytes, #melasma #darkspots #darkpigmentation

I’m looking to get a new retinol product and generally tolerate most things pretty well. I have dry skin type and my concerns are fine lines and wrinkles. I’ve tried Farmacy retinol but didn’t find it made any difference for me. I loved Summer Fridays retinol but am allergic to nut oils which it unfortunately contains. My next option was to try Paula’s Choice Retinol. However I can’t really figure out which one to choose between the 1% and 0.3% formulas. I understand 1% is a higher concentration but I was led to believe that higher is not necessarily better, so much as the delivery formula for the retinol itself. I’m wondering which of these would be best for fine lines and wrinkles? Paula's Choice CLINICAL 1% Retinol Treatment Paula's Choice Clinical 0.3% Retinol + 2% Bakuchiol Treatment 1 oz/ 30 mL Alternatively, is there another brand you’d recommend entirely instead? For relevance and product availability, I am located in Canada.

For just dealing with it using makeup, here’s something to try. You’ll need concealer (your usual and a shade lighter) or concealer and highlighter (like Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter). - Put the lighter concealer or highlighter directly on the line of the eye bag. I know it feels like you’re enhancing it, but you’re not. - Add your usual concealer above the highlighter/lighter concealer. - blend into the skin, try not to blend them together too much. The lighter shade/ highlight will lessen the appearance of the bags while the main concealer will do what it’s supposed to do. - then put on your foundation (you’re hiding the color correction underneath the foundation). If you need to, pop on some extra highlighter/ lighter concealer afterwards. In the photo, I’m doing just that (concealer is hauslabs; foundation is also hauslabs). Seasonal allergies mean I’m not getting it 100% hidden but it’s much better than it was pre-makeup!

@snellybelly retinol and sunscreen are the best defense against wrinkles. Retinol can make your skin flakier so a good moisturizing routine is also key. If you smoke or use a tanning bed, those can age your skin as well.

You must have such a beautifully expressive face! I love that!! I have a few ideas for you. Of course sunscreen, which I see you already use every day (well done! This is something I wish I could go back 30 years and tell my 17 year old self!!). The others are: 1. Do not sleep in your makeup. (As tired as you are, don't do it)2. Use moisturizer (LaRoche Posay Double Repair is great and comes in a matte formula for daytime. They also make a Toleriane eye cream that I love - you do NOT need to spend a lot of $$ on skincare!). During the day, use the moisturizer under your SPF (don't mix them, you can put them on separately and they will each do their job). If you're oily, you still need moisturizer. The excess oil production teenagers have is often due to their skin being dry and overworking trying to regulate itself.3. Your skin is still too young for actives (vitamin C or retinoids) and be careful when using AHA/BHA, because they could strip your skin, drying it out, and making your skin more susceptible to fine lines, redness, and breakouts.4. Once every 3-6 months - if you can afford it - get a facial and build a relationship with an aesthetician. She will help you balance your skin, avoid mistakes, and put you on the path to bright glowing skin. 5. Also, with spring/summer around the corner, after swimming in a pool, splash your face with tap water to rinse the chlorine off your skin before it dries you out (before swimming in a pool, drench your hair with tap water to seal it from the damaging pool water...but hair care is for another day!) I hope this helps! Enjoy being 17!!
