I'm currently in the market for a good lip scrub. First off, it should be noted that my lips can get extremely flaky. And yes, it is very gross when I can peel off the dead layers in flakes. I'm currently in the process of aquiring a good balm (By Terry's Baume de Rose). But in addition to the balm, I'm hoping to find a scrub that will help keep the dry flakes at bay. Unfortunately, I've used a lot of scrubs and none have given me the results I want. I've even tried the toothbrush method to no avail. The scrub needs to be strong, my lips are strong and can go through a lot. And so far I've tried the scrubs from Smashbox, Philosophy, Tarte, Ole Henriksen, and Soap & Glory, none of which provided the results I'm after.
Wow! Ok, you've tried every one I was going to suggest ( including the toothbrish method) and some I have never tried! My suggestion is this: After or during a warm shower, take a washcloth and buff the dead skin from your lips. They will be plump and moisturised from your time in the warm, humid air, which should help the dead skin come off easily. After than , immediately put on your balm of choice, which will actually help seal in the moisture in your lips from the shower. And on top of that, drink plenty of water! DDry lips are often a sign of dehydration! This is what I do that I have found works best for me. Also, be aware that some lip balms ( petroleum based ones) can make you skin 'addicted', where your lips won't stay soft/hydrated without them because they basically take over your body's natural hydration process. So try to stick with balms that have natural ingredients, staying clear of mineral oils or petroleum.
I love the Pangea Organics lip balm they have here and from the drugsore I love EOS lip balms in the little egg shaped containers.
Hope that helps!
The most easy and least expensive scrub I use on my lips is sugar and honey! It gets rid of ALL of my flakey dryness on my lips. Also you can use a warm washcloth on your lips to scrub off all the gunk. After I use this I like to use my EOS lip balm They are sold at drugstores. I hope this helps!
Hi nightknight - that's so aggravating. I'm wondering if a combo of Philosophy Kiss Me lip scrub along with Philosophy Kiss Me Tonight Intense Lip Therapy might help I LOVE Kiss Me Tonight, and I'm hard to please. If you use Phil. Microdelivery Exfoliating Face Wash you might be able to try that on your lips. If you have Philosophy Oxygen Peel Kit (LOVE) maybe you can use that on your lips but please, please only if you call Philosophy first and ask them directly. You can also use plain old sugar, with a wash cloth, your fingers, mixed in cleanser. If you have the Clarisonic, call them and see if you can use that on your lips, not sure so definitely call and ask.
mermadelove was so right, a lot of products can worsen the issue, and yes it sounds funny but, they can make your lips become 'addicted' or 'immune' Kind of like any kind of addiction, you need more and more and it works less and less. Stay away from overly scented, glittery products or menthol-ish balms. I love some menthol balms (Blistex is one) but you cannot use them long term without causing a bigger problem. Hope this helps you and I hope you'll come back and update us in re: what did or didn't help you. Good luck.
